Abstract: A vehicle transport truck or trailer with a platform having at least a first section and a second section is configured such that the first section is operable to move to at least a raised position and a lowered position. A ramp is provided that connects the first section and the second section of the platform, the ramp being operable to move in conjunction with the first section. A linkage mechanism is also provided and is configured to move in conjunction with the first section of the platform. Moving the first section of the platform causes the linkage mechanism to correspondingly move the ramp such that when the first section is in the raised position the ramp is substantially aligned with the first section and when the first section is in the lowered position the ramp is not aligned with the first section.

  • Patent number: 7703789
Abstract: A load coupling apparatus for a wheeled vehicle includes load linkage members that pivotally suspend the vehicle and load weight below the axles of the vehicle, allowing limited relative displacement of the axles and the load in the direction of vehicle travel. The load is displaced by moving the axles in the desired direction of travel, whereafter the suspended load follows the axles in a swinging motion as the effects of gravity overcome the load inertia. The effort required to initiate movement of the load is significantly reduced due to the relative displacement of the axles and the load, and the mechanical advantage afforded by the load linkage members. Once in motion, the load continues to track the axles in the direction of travel, providing continued reduction in motive effort even when the load reaches a constant forward speed.

  • Patent number: 5415425
Abstract: A gooseneck hitch is held in coupled relation with a trailer platform by a pivoted link which is adapted to be rocked rearwardly by hydraulic actuators to raise the forward end of the platform to a transport position and rocked forwardly to lower the forward end of the platform to the ground and permit removal of the gooseneck from the platform. During towing of the trailer with the platform in a normal transport position, the actuators are hydraulically unloaded and the link is held against forward rocking by a pair of compression cams. The cams are manually released from the link during removal of the gooseneck but are automatically re-engaged with the link during re-installation of the gooseneck so as to relieve the trailer operator of the re-engagement task. The cams may be selectively adjusted to change the transport height of the forward end of the platform and/or to compensate for variations in the height of the fifth wheel coupler of the towing vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5165836
Abstract: An apparatus for lifting and transporting one or more large bales of material, comprising a trailer to be towed by a towing device and hydraulically powered by an outside source, preferably incorporated in the towing vehicle. The apparatus has tines adapted to fit beneath a bale and cradle and lift the bale in the manner of a fork lift, which is done by exerting force downwards on the wheels of the trailer, thus lifting the frame and attached tines. Connection to the towing device's three-point hitch also affords a lifting device. A device may be provided for shifting the trailer between a transport position, where the trailer is generally aligned behind the towing device, and a working position where the trailer is aligned outwardly and behind the towing device. The tines are positioned generally horizontally and substantially parallel with the longitudinal axis of the trailer. Bales are lifted by the apparatus off the ground for transportation.

  • Patent number: 5112182
Abstract: The present invention provides a non-articulating low load platform trailer longitudinally divided into three load carrying segments; a rear load platform, a front coupling platform, and an inclined transitional platform between the coupling platform and the load platform. The trailer of the invention includes a self-contained power actuated lifting mechanism for the purpose of lowering the nose of the trailer to the ground without articulation of the trailer body to facilitate loading and unloading, and for the purpose of raising the nose of the trailer from the ground. The lifting mechanism includes lever arms configured to increase the vertical component of lifting force exerted by lift actuators, and further includes leverage links disposed between the lift actuators and lever arms for the purpose of further increasing the vertical component of lifting force when the nose of the trailer is near the ground.

  • Patent number: 5040815
Abstract: A gooseneck structure is coupled to a tractor via a spherical bearing which compensates for pitch, roll and yaw motions and is coupled to support brackets upon the trailer via a horizontal support beam positioned at the underside of the support brackets. Air bag lifting actuators cause the horizontal support beam to be raised to contact the support brackets mounted upon a side wall portion of the trailer and a hydraulic actuator thereafter causes a substantially vertical elevation control beam to press against a side wall portion of the trailer to rotate the trailer about its wheel axles and thus elevate it above the terrain to provide for a variable degree of clearancce between the underside of the trailer, regardless of the degree of roughness of the terrain.

  • Patent number: 4806065
Abstract: A trailer is disclosed having a forward section, a middle section, and a rearward section. The forward section is adapted to be attached to the fifth wheel of a tractor while the rearward section supports the trailer on a set of wheels. The middle section extending between the forward and rearward sections is positionable in at least two load-transporting positions at different heights above the ground. • Patent number: 4765638
Abstract: The present invention is comprised of cylinders with extensible pistons which extend between first points located on a trailer and second points located on a gooseneck which interconnects the trailer to a tractor. The gooseneck and the trailer are rotatably coupled to one another at a common pivot point. The first points and second points are arranged relative to one another such that as the piston in the cylinder is extended or retracted, the gooseneck and trailer are respectively raised or lowered relative to the ground. The gooseneck is arranged so that it substantially encloses the cylinders throughout their entire range of travel thereby protecting them from damage. In addition, a locking apparatus permits locking the pistons to both the first and second points to present rotation of the gooseneck relative to the trailer. Thus the gooseneck and trailer can be removed from the tractor as a single unit.
