  • Patent number: 8647044
Abstract: The light-weight live-floor module has a floor surface, parallel cables laid on the floor surface, a length of conveyor belt laid on the cables, a movable bulkhead and a winch system for moving the belt, the cables and the bulkhead back and forth in unison, such as a shuttle. The belt has just enough length to cover the return axis and the floor surface on which goods are transported, thereby reducing any unnecessary weight in the live floor structure. The cables and the belt are wrapped over different axes for eliminating relative movement between the cables and the belt. One axis is set higher than the floor surface for easily breaking static friction under the belt. In a method for breaking static friction between a conveyor belt and a floor surface, a first segment of the belt is jolted upwardly while tension is applied in the belt.

A longitudinal guide is affixed to the flat bed of the body, and a hopper complete with refuse material compacting members, which is slidable in said portion of reduced cross-section and has a bottom provided with matching guides is coupled to the guide on the flat bed. A refuse material ejector plate is provided which is movable along the major portion of the body having a rectangular cross-section and rigid with respect to the hopper, as well as a drive mechanism for moving the hopper along the body.

  • Patent number: 4648775
Abstract: A refuse compactor body has a tank section of an irregular polygonal right section that is uniform from end to end. The tank wall is made of rectangular pieces of thin very high tensile strength sheet metal and externally reinforced at spaced intervals longitudinally of the tank by polygonal peripherally continuous girth reinforcements, made up of straight short sections of metal tubes, to make a semi-monocoque structure. A floor portion of the tank is recessed between the longitudinal body support beams, which are the sole body support, to provide a relatively low center of gravity when mounted on a truck chassis. A hopper section of the body has a packer that obturates about two-thirds of the opening to the tank and is fitted at its upper edge with a follower that pivots to a shallower slope to keep refuse from falling behind the packer blade during a compaction stroke of the packer.

  • Patent number: 4632628
Abstract: A side ejection mechanism which may be integrated either onto a trailer or into a unit truck employs a laterally translatable ejection ram to push a payload of material off the side of a load bed. The ejection ram is actuated at its midpoint with a ridged rail and mating spaced roller pair at each end of the ejection ram preventing cocking and tilting as the ram traverses the load bed. A drop gate may be provided opposite the load bed to serve as a wall when up and a lateral deflector when down. The mechanism is designed to permit the rear face of the ejection ram to clear the load bed of any overflow material as the ram is retracted.

  • Patent number: 4475862
Abstract: A vehicle for the temporary storage of refuse has a collecting section (12) which includes a basically vertical plate (20) which is moved in the longitudinal axis of the vehicle by a drive unit (21). The plate regulates the size of the storage space of the collecting section, so that during the feeding in of refuse, the feeding unit, located at the extreme rear of the vehicle, achieves the necessary compression of refuse. According to the invention, the frame of the vehicle is formed by the bottom part of the collecting section. Guiding and sliding units (35a,b) for the plate and a number of strengthening elements are also arranged in the collecting section. The strengthening sections assure the necessary mechanical stability in the bottom part and in planes through the guiding and sliding units. The guiding and sliding units preferably also serve as strengthening elements.

  • Patent number: 4431360
Abstract: A container body for highway trailers, ships or aircraft, for loading and transporting goods provides a conveyor belt on the floor of the body with a vertical partition that is movable with the conveyor as the goods are loaded into, or removed from the body. The belt can be moved forwardly or backwardly by a transmission shaft and a separate portable, self-contained power source which can remain at a loading dock, thereby making it unnecessary to use the container vehicle's transport power source. An electrical control mechanism can be suitably connected to the container body at a loading dock to control operation of the conveyor belt because the portable power source, which may be an internal combustion engine provided with an electrically controlled reversing gearbox, also includes a battery and suitable connections to the container body to energize the control mechanism.
