  • Patent number: 5199150
Abstract: A retractable ramp is telescopable to a stowed position within a rearwardly open, longitudinally extending storage chamber within a cargo vehicle frame below a cargo carrying floor therein. It can be pulled from the vehicle, tilted downwardly so that its rear end engages the ground, and then its front end can be raised and connected to the vehicle adjacent the floor of the cargo compartment to serve as an unloading or loading platform for the vehicle floor. The ramp includes carriage arms pivotally connected to the ramp assembly near its front end and extending forwardly into the storage chamber to connect to glides which are slideable along the chamber. A force asserting, weight counterbalancing mechanism is pivotally connected between the carriage arm assembly and the ramp, and positioned to exert power to assist manual movement of the front end of the ramp from an initial position in which it is pulled from the storage chamber to a raised, operatively deployed position attached adjacent the ramp floor.

  • Patent number: 5184366
Abstract: An on-board aircraft cargo handling system comprises a plurality of tines which are mounted within a cargo ramp and beneath its surface and are capable of extension aft of the ramp across a truck bed or the like. The tines have a plurality of rollers extending above their top surfaces for permitting easy movement of cargo across the tines. The ends of the tines are tapered to allow them to be pushed under the cargo to be moved. Pallet retainers, which consist of arm members which have finger-like projections on one end for allowing interengagement of the arm members with notches on the cargo, are mounted to the cargo ramp in such a way as to permit movement of the arms for aligning them with the cargo notches. Additionally, the cargo ramp surface includes pop-up chocks, which may be extended above the surface to lift the cargo, thus permitting forklift tines to be slid underneath.

  • Patent number: 5160236
Abstract: An elongated ramp is provided for longitudinal extension and retraction relative to a predetermined margin of a support structure therefor. The ramp includes a longitudinally short base end section and a considerably longer outer end section and the support and ramp include coacting guide structures for supporting and guiding the ramp during extension and retraction thereof, the outer end section of the ramp being automatically disengaged from the support and guide structure responsive to the ramp approaching its fully extended position. In a first form of ramp, a biasing structure is operatively connected between the sections yieldingly resisting downward swinging of the outer end section as it disengages from the support and guide structure during extension of the ramp and the biasing structure is operative to counteract a major portion, only, of the force of gravity acting upon the outer end section to swing the outer end thereof downwardly as the ramp moves to its fully extended position.

  • Patent number: 5152656
Abstract: A trailer for carrying a small boat and simultaneously carrying one end of a small automobile, so that the boat and automobile can be towed behind a motor home or other large motor vehicle without the combination of vehicles being so long as to be unduly difficult to handle. A boat support platform carries a boat with its bow forward, and a movable arch frame is pivoted about a transverse axis to raise the rear portion of the boat support frame high enough above the main frame of the trailer that the road wheels of one end of an automobile can be carried by the trailer within the space defined by the arch frame. The automobile can then be towed with the boat extending rearwardly above a portion of the automobile. When the automobile is not in position on the trailer the boat support frame is lowered to permit water launch and recovery of the boat as with a conventional boat trailer.

  • Patent number: 5145310
Abstract: A spring system for assisting the maneuvering of trailer ramps from a transport position into a loading position is provided. The invention is comprised of a spring mounted concentrically around a shaft about which a ramp pivots. When the ramp is in the transport position at rest on the back of the trailer, it engages and is biased against an end of the spring. The spring exerts force against the ramp thus reducing its effective weight which enables the operator to pivot the ramp into loading position with a minimum of physical effort. An arcuate tab having a plurality of holes is positioned concentrically around the pivot shaft. The holes receive a retaining pin under which an end of the spring is braced as the ramp engages the other end of the spring. By changing the location of the pin among the holes, the degree of stress imparted to the spring may be selectively varied.

  • Patent number: 5140716
Abstract: Fixed parallel cargo rails are positioned on the cargo bed floor of an aircraft, spaced sufficiently to fit a pallet snugly therebetween. A plurality of collinear slots arranged along the length of the cargo bed floor are positioned just inboard of each rail. The slots are evenly spaced and oriented lengthwise with respect to the cargo bed floor. A dog extends above the cargo bed floor from each slot and is adapted to engage a notch in the cargo. While engaged, the dog is adapted to move along its slot, thereby moving the pallet lengthwise along the cargo bed floor. The pallet is passed bucket brigade style from one dog to the next.Another aspect of the invention is the employment of movable cargo rails on the cargo ramp. The rails are slidable widthwise across the ramp within mounting slots, thus permitting the spacing between the rails to vary. The result is that loading cargo onto the ramp and aligning it with the fixed cargo rails on the cargo bed floor is made much easier.

  • Patent number: 5133634
Abstract: A ramp lifter device is provided which is adapted to elevate the end of a loading ramp from its initial, extended position to the floor height of a trailer. A trailer chassis provides a storage area for the loading ramp between longitudinal frame members. A ramp carrier box is secured between opposing frame members of the trailer chassis. The ramp includes a ramp carriage having extension rods that are slidingly received along the ramp carrier box. The ramp lifter device includes a reinforcement member attached to a bottom cross member towards one end of the ramp, and a handle. Selectively applying a downward force on the handle forces a pivot rod on the ramp lifter device against the ramp carriage extension rods, which pivots the reinforcement member upwardly, and hence elevates the end of the ramp to the level of the trailer floor. The loading ramp can be manually moved forward and lowered so that ramp hooks on the end of the ramp engage corresponding ramp pockets on the end of the trailer body.

  • Patent number: 4960356
Abstract: An apparatus for loading, unloading and storing a jet propelled water vehicle comprising a first pair of tubes made of relatively smooth surfaced plastic plumbing pipe or the like, a second pair of tubes of similar construction which telescope within and extend from the first pair of tubes and devices to adjustably support and space the first pair of tubes on a truck bed, mini-van floor, trailer frame, elevated rack or the like. When the first pair of tubes are mounted in a pickup truck bed for example and the second pair of tubes are drawn out as an extension of the first pair of tubes, a jet propelled vehicle can be loaded directly from the water by applying the weight of the vehicle to bend the second pair of tubes and after a short jet burst propelling the vehicle along the tubes with the grooves in the hull of the vehicle engaging the tubes. In another mode the vehicle slides on the tubes onto a storage rack directly from the water or from the bed of a pickup truck or the like.
