  • Patent number: 4376611
Abstract: A car top wheelchair carrier includes a carrier case mounted on the top of a car and open to one side of the car. A moving platform inside of the case is movable between a loaded position entirely within the case and an unloading position where an outer edge portion of it is downwardly hinged at an acute angle to overhang the side of the car. A wheelchair cage is provided for encompassing a folded wheelchair to be stored, and the cage includes a rectangular angle iron back frame member. A top edge of this back frame member is connected by a pair of cables to a pair of winches mounted with respect to the moving platform. The wheelchair cage, whether it encompasses and retains a wheelchair or not, is lifted up onto the platform by the winch means and the platform is then moved to its retracted position inside of the case.

  • Patent number: 4368002
Abstract: A two car carrier truck employs an above-cab tilting platform for the support of one car in transit. A cable winch is located at the rear of this platform with a guide sheave for the cable at the front of the platform assuring a proper fleet angle for the cable being wound onto the winch drum even when the car is in a fully loaded position. Proper layering of the cable on the winch drum is assured and dangerous uneven piling up of the cable is eliminated. The overall length of the transport truck is reduced, driver vision is improved, and car loading time is reduced by placement of the winch closer to the operator's control panel at the rear of the truck. Oil leakage from the winch blowing back onto the truck windshield is eliminated.

  • Patent number: 4321004
Abstract: A self-loading and unloading carpet cart is a light-weight, two-wheeled, tiltable cart having an endless belt conveyor centered above and between the wheels. A dual-drum winch is mounted forwardly of the wheels. For loading a carpet roll on the conveyor, the cart is positioned at one end of the roll with the conveyor aligned lengthwise with the roll. A cable connected to each winch drum is extensible rearwardly along the sides of the conveyor to connect to opposite sides of a carpet roll yoke. The yoke is adapted to engage the remote end of the carpet roll so that the roll can be winched onto the conveyor. A reversible, variable-speed electric motor is drivably connected to the conveyor, wheels and winch via separate clutches. The conveyor, wheels and winch are synchronized so that they can be operated separately or together in various combinations to load, transport, or unload a carpet roll in a variety of situations.

  • Patent number: 4239438
Abstract: A device includes a fixed frame over the bed and the cab of a pickup truck, a pair of slanting rails along the sides of the fixed frame, and a folding frame that is detachably connected to the rear portion of the fixed frame. Unfolding the folding frame extends a carrying frame slantingly, rearwardly from the rails to the rear of the folding frame. Folding the frame by operation of a winch moves the front end of the carrying frame up the rails while the rear end of the carrying frame is guided by members of the folding frame to a position over the bed of the pickup truck. After removing locking pins, the winch is again operated to position the folding frame over the fixed frame at the sides of the carrying frame.

  • Patent number: 4232990
Abstract: This invention relates to a winch-actuated extendable tongue for boat trailers and the like that is characterized by the winch being so located and reaved with respect to a pair of telescoping elements that it is effective to positively drive the tongue into extended as well as retracted position regardless of whether the load thereon is such as to extend or retract same. More specifically, the winch is mounted on the outer of the two telescoping elements for movement therewith and its cable is reaved from an initial point of attachment on the inner of said telescoping elements, around the winch drum several turns, over a pulley on the end of the outer element remote from the initial point of attachment, back again toward the latter to a second pulley on the adjacent end of the outer element, around the second pulley and toward the remote end of the outer element again to a second point of attachment on the inner element.

  • Patent number: 4211513
Abstract: This invention is a releasable pulley device that can be readily attached to the center rear of a boat trailer and through which the tow-in line for a boat is threaded. As the boat is winched in to the rear of the trailer an alignment of the prow with the center rear of the trailer is effected. The pulley device is released from its seating and rides free on the line as the boat is fully winched on to the trailer. This enables the dry loading of a boat from rough water as a one-man operation.
