Patent number: 7204535Abstract: Apparatus for gripping and lifting objects such as fence posts. A frame carries a pair of grippers that are slidingly movable along the frame to grasp a post or other object. The grippers may pivot so that the object remains in essentially constant vertical orientation despite arcuate motion of a tractor or other lifting machine by which the frame is lifted. The grippers may be actuated by hydraulic or other power provided by the lifting machine.Type: GrantFiled: September 21, 2004Date of Patent: April 17, 2007Inventor: David Keith Hansen

Patent number: 6641347Abstract: A pole extractor having a base and a hydraulically operable cylinder and ram assembly. The base is coupled to an attachment means to define a slot for accepting a mobile positioning device. The cylinder and ram assembly have a proximal end coupling said assembly to the base. The ram has a distal end remote from the base, which has a connecting means to accept a holding means. In use, the holding means releasably holds a pole. The cylinder and ram assembly has a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet to communicate with an actuating means that controls extension of the ram within the cylinder, which in turn extracts the pole. In use, a pole is choked to the ram and the ram is actuated in order to extract the pole from a substrate.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 2001Date of Patent: November 4, 2003Assignee: 1479502 Ontario Inc.Inventor: James Ewington

Patent number: 6520732Abstract: Concentric, tubular sections are assembled by first securing annular centralizers and insulation about the external surface of the smaller diameter tube while the tube is horizontally disposed. The larger tube is then vertically aligned and lowered into a recessed area formed below the assembly area work level. A lifting cable, secured at one end to a lifting device, is extended through the smaller diameter tube and attached to a hoisting arrangement that vertically orients the tube concentrically over the larger diameter tube. Spring-loaded legs on the lifting device are manually retracted radially to permit the smaller tube to be lowered concentrically through the larger tube. The inner tube is lowered until the legs spring radially outwardly to engage the base of the larger tube. The entire assembly may then be lifted as a unit by the hoist with the lifting device, establishing the axial positions of the two tubes relative to each other.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 2001Date of Patent: February 18, 2003Inventors: Layton R. Bull, Douglas J. Trosclair, Terron A. Adams, Roy J. Blanchard
