  • Patent number: 7547184
Abstract: In a station for forming a pile of layers of items, a surface receives layers of items to be transferred to a first support plane situated after the receiving surface. The items arranged in layers are moved along the receiving surfaces and the first support plane by driving chains connected by rods set crosswise to the receiving surface and support plane. The support plane is spaced apart from the receiving surface to define a window and a descending ramp is situated below the window. An additional conveyor formed by narrow slats or rolls, is situated at the window and is operated so that one flexible plate moves to cover and uncover the window, so that layers of items are alternately either carried from the receiving surface to the support plane or made to pass through the window and released on the descending ramp. The ramp can change inclination so as to connect the receiving surface to either one or the other of second and third support planes situated below the first support plane.

  • Patent number: 7063500
Abstract: A method of stacking a veneer sheet carried by a conveyer onto a pile of similar veneer sheets is disclosed. Veneer sheet is separated from the conveyer thereby to allow the sheet to drop from the conveyer toward the pile. The veneer sheet being dropped is restrained by an elongated flexible member which is lowered substantially simultaneously with the above separation and at such a speed that the flexible member is brought into frictional engagement with the veneer sheet at at least one side thereof which extends in substantially perpendicular relation to the length of the elongated flexible member. The flexible member is lowered until it is bent in pressing engagement with the veneer sheet then dropped onto the pile at the above side thereof. An apparatus for performing the method is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20030108416
Abstract: The present invention comprises a system and method for loading or stacking objects into open top containers. The objects may be flat with wide and narrow sides and may further comprise mail pieces. The system comprises a pivoting unit for pivoting a container holding member into one of at least two positions: a top position, and a stacking position. In the top position, the container is held such that the open top faces substantially upwards, while in the bottom position the top faces substantially horizontal. A stacking aid is introduced into the container when it is held in the top position. The stacking aid includes an inclined wall that helps guide the objects into the container. A height sensor may also be included. The pivoting unit may also include a horizontal extension unit which may telescope the container in a horizontal direction. This facilitates easier manual handling of the container.
