Therefore, the forces of resistance caused by weight are eliminated and only friction forces have to be overcome. Hence, a manual device is provided.

    Abstract: An "F-shaped" rug puller is disclosed for pulling stacked carpets wound in convolute rolls. The "F-shaped" rug puller has a rigid "L-shaped" arm with the central member of the "F" being pivotally attached. The L-shaped member includes two arms rigidly joined at right angles. One arm has a carpet claw at one end extending downwardly and upon the upper and outer surface of the convolute carpet roll. Medially located to the other arm of the L is a pivoted arm with a pointed aperture which imparts to the rigid "L" member the "F" configuration. This pivoted arm penetrates to and into the convolutely wound carpet roll. At the extreme end of the rigid arm remote from the carpet claw, there is preferably mounted a clevice. Typically, a tensive device such as a rope, chain or cable is used to pull the puller. In operation, the device is inserted into the spirally wound carpet with the pivoted arm penetrating into the central portion of the spirally wound convolute carpet roll.

Extending forwardly from the clamp assembly is a pair of clamp arms which are swingably disposed, or pivot relative to the frame for closing and opening by movement toward and away from each other. The rotator rotates the frame relative to the mast about a clamp rotation axis. Hydraulic cylinders selectively open and close the arms, which have clamp pads at their distal ends for engaging the load surfaces. The rotator base plate carries a swash ring defining a plane skewed relative to the axis of clamp rotation.

The trough comprises a pair of plates 5 and 6 pivotally connected to one another about a horizontal shaft, plate 5 picking up the web roll 2 by its underside and being laterally guided by a cam follower 13 guided along a cam 14.

The wheels have pneumatic tires thereon, and are mounted on the transverse member in the same manner as is conventional for the mounting of automotive front wheels on their spindles. A chain can be used to adjustably support the auxiliary frame from the support frame, or alternatively a fluid actuated cylinder and piston assembly can connect the frames to control their relative positions.

Locking mechanisms, actuable by hydraulic pistons, lock the axle of the cable reel in a recess in each of the lift arms during the lifting and lowering operations. The pivotal transfer arms, one on each side of the truck, actuable by hydraulic rams, transfer the cable reel, while its axle is still locked in the recesses of the lift arms, between the rearward end and the forward end of the flatbed truck. A locking mechanism, actuable by hydraulic pistons, lock the axle of the cable reel in its storage position at the forward end of the truck.

An overhead winch lifts and lowers a load carriage and the load attached thereto, and a powered wheeled trolley moves the load horizontally above a floor. Attached to the carriage is a clamp, which engages the coil through its center aperture and its periphery. The clamp has two jaws, one movable with respect to the other, the movable jaw also having a movable gripping surface that moves on an inclined surface of the movable jaw towards the fixed jar to ensure a tight wedging engagement of the load. The jaws and gripping surfaces provide a nonpowered, mechanically firm grip on the load once it has been engaged by the jaws. The coil may be lifted with the jaws when its center aperture is vertically or horizontally disposed, and the load may be placed for storage in either position as well.

The arrangement makes it possible to lift a load in a simple manner and to shift the load through an approximately horizontal path by relative rotation of the arms of the brackets as a result of which spacing between adjacent storage shelves may be maintained very narrow while enabling goods to be transported therebetween.
