  • Patent number: 5961285
Abstract: An apparatus for removing bottom dross from molten zinc contained in a coating pot includes a pump, a traversing carriage for positioning the inlet of the pump in a desired horizontal location and a slide mechanism for positioning the inlet of the pump in a desired vertical location. The pump is moved in horizontal and vertical direction to remove the accumulated bottom dross. The bottom dross contained in molten zinc is pumped into a V-shaped channel and allowed to flow into either a removable basket or into a pre-melt pot. The pump of the present invention is a pedestal, centrifugal graphite pump powered by an air motor. The pump has a housing enclosing an impeller. The distance between the impeller and the inner wall of the housing is sufficiently large to avoid plugging by the bottom dross but sufficiently small to permit pumping.

Abstract: An apparatus is provided for controlling rotating blade tip clearance in a turbo-machine utilizing conical tipped blades. The apparatus comprises an approximately conical blade ring mounted for axially sliding displacement in the turbo-machine cylinder. The conical blade ring encircles the tips of the rotating blades and forms a blade tip clearance therebetween. The tip clearance is controlled during operation of the turbo-machine by axially displacing the conical blade ring. Piston cylinders, actuated by pressurized fluid extracted from the turbo-machine, are used to displace the blade ring. Springs, adapted to bias the blade ring into a position of increased tip clearance, oppose the piston cylinder so that failure of the piston cylinder will not result in a loss of tip clearance.

Abstract: A turbine shroud assembly is provided for use in conjunction with a turbine engine having a turbine rotor consisting of a disc and plurality of blades attached to and extending radially outwardly from the disc wherein the outer tips of the blades are axially tapered at a predetermined angle. The shroud assembly comprises an annular shroud positioned around the turbine blades and tapered axially at the predetermined angle such that the shroud is evenly spaced radially outwardly from the turbine blades. A plurality of circumferentially spaced bell crank assemblies attach the shroud to a turbine support housing and, in response to thermal expansion of the shroud, axially shift the shroud in a direction to decrease the clearance between the shroud and the turbine blade tips.

  • Patent number: 4261255
Abstract: A ventilation fan which is adapted to be ceiling mounted such as in an attic space above a room ceiling. The fan is arranged to pass upwardly through the space between the ceiling joists in a compact arrangement and to be extended once it is disposed above the room ceiling to define an operating configuration. In the operating configuration, the air moving apparatus is swung outwardly from the housing of the fan on a pivotally mounted wall portion thereof. The fan redirects the upwardly flowing air from the subjacent room at a substantial angle to the vertical in the attic space for improved ventilation functioning.

  • Patent number: 4239459
Abstract: Method and apparatus for improving building heating and cooling, wherein relatively cooler air is circulated upwardly from adjacent the floor of a room or other space. The upwardly projected relatively cooler air displaces relatively warmer air from the upper part of the room or space, and the warmer air is displaced to a lower level, thereby tending to equalize the air temperatures at different levels of the room or space. The apparatus used for air circulation is adapted for use also in periods when cooling is required, as in summer, in a disposition to propel air horizontally. The apparatus structure includes adjustable legs permitting use of the fan or blower in dual positions.

  • Patent number: 4152094
Abstract: The disclosure is concerned with an axial fan having a casing. Unacceptably high level of noise and low discharge pressure inherent in axial fans are attributable to a counter flow of fluid taking place through the gap between the radially outer ends of the rotating blades and the casing. The invention is directed to preventing the counter flow by providing guide vanes disposed in the gap and inclined symmetrically with the rotating blade, thereby to provide enhanced output flow rate and discharge pressure, as well as to reduce the level of noise. The invention is applicable also to such axial fan as having a baffle plate on the suction side of the rotating blade in the proximity thereof.

  • Patent number: 4044442
Abstract: A method of installing into a machinery hall a gas turbine unit comprising a gas generator unit and a power turbine unit and forming a portion of a large capacity, gas-turbine powered electrical generating apparatus. The method is particularly intended for electric generating equipment having a capacity of at least 60 megawatts. To install the gas generator of such a unit in the hall and to couple it to the already-installed power turbine unit, the gas generator is moved horizontally into the machinery hall on roller devices.

  • Patent number: 4032254
Abstract: Reversal means for a transverse or cross flow blower is provided which allows for reversal of fluid flow direction without changing impeller rotation direction. In the first embodiment, power means rotate the housing 180.degree. from its initial position, thereby providing for reversal of the fluid flow. In the second embodiment, fluid flow reversal is provided by a pair of inlet and outlet volute walls made up of curved vanes. The vanes are generally elongated and pivotally mounted for rotation about their longitudinal axis by means of linkages connected to a power means. By opening the vanes of one volute wall while closing the vanes of the other, air flow reversal is conveniently accomplished.

  • Patent number: 4022423
Abstract: The control valve uses a rotor assembly to control the flow through the valve. The rotor assembly is rotatably mounted within the valve housing and cooperative with a scroll-shaped means in the flow passage which directs the flow of fluid circumferentially around and then through the bladed portion of the rotor assembly. The rotor assembly converts the motion of the fluid therethrough into rotational movement, thereby creating a predictable pressure drop. Means are provided for varying the pressure drop, namely, by axially positioning the rotor assembly relative to the opening formed by the valve seat.

  • Patent number: 3961382
Abstract: A portable whirlpool or hydrotherapy bath assembly of the type which mounts on the upper edge of the wall of a bath tub. The assembly includes a motor housing, a spaced generally upright pump housing, and an overhead support which is secured to the upper ends of both housings. The pump drive shaft is mounted in an upright position in the pump housing. Means are provided for rotatably mounting the pump housing to the overhead support for rotation about the axis of the drive shaft. A pump impeller is mounted on the lower end of the drive shaft in a pump chamber which is unitary with the pump housing. A water inlet is positioned at the lower central portion thereof. A water volume control is provided for adjusting the volume of water passing through the water inlet.
