    Abstract: A controllable coolant pump for a coolant circuit of an internal combustion engine. The space between the stop surface and the impeller forms the pumping cross section for a coolant. A twinsert is threadably received within each of the plurality of second openings. An adjustment bolt, having an opening in its central axis, is threadably inserted into each of the first openings and abuts a face of a twinsert. An attachment bolt is inserted through each adjustment bolt's opening and is threadably received within the respective twinsert. Once the impeller clearance is set, each attachment bolt is tightened thereby maintaining the set impeller clearance.

    Abstract: A turbo vacuum pump has a rotor and magnetic bearings. The magnetic bearings are held in a housing having a suction port and an exhaust port, and support the rotor rotatably. A peripheral flow pump stage and screw pump stage are formed in the rotor, so that the pressure at the exhaust port can be at or near atmospheric pressure level. Before starting the turbo vacuum pump, the magnetic bearings are operated to displace a rotor position and to scrape off the reaction products which have deposited inside the pump. In addition, before starting the turbo vacuum pump, a stator of the pump is heated up to decrease a binding force of the reaction products. Therefore, the pump can be restarted, even if the rotor has locked by the solidification of deposited reaction products formed during stopping of the pump.

Alternatively, the rotor may be driven by an external power source so that a working fluid increases in potential energy as it moves centrifugally outward. The assembled module is symmetric about the rotor member so that the rotor can be orientated for either direction of rotation and so that power takeoff or power connection can be to either side of the module. Also, the module is constructed so that the seals are located at an interface having a low pressure differential and the bearings are located adjacent an area encouraging heat dissipation.

The bearing mount also includes an annular surface disposed near the exposed edges of the blades of the impeller and spaced therefrom by a predetermined, desired clearance or gap. The optimization of the clearance maximizes the efficiency of the pump.

In the raised position the rotor has a mixing effect. In the lowered position the rotor is at the same level as an outlet 78 extending from the stator 60, and acts to pump liquid through the outlet.
