Patent number: 12241470Abstract: An assembly and process for draining fluid leaks from a pump housing is disclosed. The pump housing includes an internal mounting cavity, a valve installed in the mounting cavity and at least one housing passage extending to an exterior surface of the pump housing. A valve passage is formed through a wall of the valve. An interior fluid seal is installed on an interior surface of the valve forming a seal between the valve interior surface and a first surface of the mounting cavity. An exterior fluid seal is installed on an exterior surface of the valve that forms a seal between the valve exterior surface and a second surface of the mounting cavity. An inner leak path is created through the interior fluid seal to the valve passage. The valve passage collects fluid leaking in the inner leak path. An outer leak path is created through the exterior fluid seal. The outer leak path in fluid communication with the valve passage and with the housing passage.Type: GrantFiled: February 24, 2022Date of Patent: March 4, 2025Assignee: Cooper-Standard Automotive Inc.Inventor: David S. Patent number: 12085081Abstract: An assembly comprising a housing having a first and a second fluid inlet for directing fluid to a pump cavity. A valve switch located in the housing is arranged to selectively switch the flow of the fluid between the second fluid inlet and the pump cavity. A fluid outlet is fluidically connected to the pump cavity and an impeller contained in the pump cavity is arranged to be rotated on demand by an electrical motor that accelerates the fluid in the pump cavity out of the fluid outlet.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 2023Date of Patent: September 10, 2024Assignee: Cooper-Standard Automotive Inc.Inventor: David S. Patent number: 12078189Abstract: A gas turbine engine apparatus includes an engine flowpath, a protuberance and a variable vane. The protuberance projects into the engine flowpath. The variable vane extends across the engine flowpath. The variable vane includes a pivot axis and an airfoil. The variable vane is configured to pivot about the pivot axis between a first position and a second position. The airfoil extends spanwise along a span line between a first end and a second end. The airfoil extends chordwise along a chord line between a leading edge and a trailing edge. A recess extends spanwise into the airfoil from the first end. The airfoil, at the first end, is spaced from the protuberance when the variable vane is in the first position. The airfoil, at the first end, is aligned with the protuberance and the protuberance projects into the recess when the variable vane is in the second position.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 2022Date of Patent: September 3, 2024Assignee: Pratt & Whitney Canada Corp.Inventors: Jason Nichols, David Batch, Daniel Poick

Patent number: 9896992Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for a pressure-charged combustion engine having at least one cylinder head comprising at least two cylinders. In one example, a system may include each cylinder having at least one outlet port, at least two cylinders configured to form two groups each comprising at least one cylinder, exhaust lines joined together to form an overall exhaust line which provides an exhaust manifold, the exhaust lines connected to an exhaust turbocharger and equipped with rotor blades wherein each rotor blade comprises a first inlet edge facing the flows and a second inlet edge facing the flows connected to one another at a connection point forming an inflection.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 2016Date of Patent: February 20, 2018Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLCInventors: Vanco Smiljanovski, Helmut Matthias Kindl, Joerg Kemmerling, Franz Arnd Sommerhoff, Franz J. Patent number: 9004850Abstract: A compressor for a gas turbine engine with variable inlet guide vanes each defining an airfoil portion twisted such that at each location of the airfoil portion along the pivot axis, an angle is defined between a respective chord extending between the leading and trailing edges and a same reference plane containing the pivot axis and extending radially with respect to the compressor. The angle, which is measured along a direction of rotation of the rotor, varies from a minimum value near the hub side wall to a maximum value near the shroud side wall. A method of reducing vortex whistle in a radial inlet of a compressor is also provided.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 2012Date of Patent: April 14, 2015Assignee: Pratt & Whitney Canada Corp.Inventors: Jason Nichols, Hien Duong, Peter Townsend

Patent number: 8506237Abstract: A turbomachine that includes a radial-flow impeller and one or more of a variety of features that enhance the performance of machinery in which the turbomachine is used. For example, when the turbomachine is used in a dynamometer, the features enhance the useful shaft horsepower range of the dynamometer. One of the features is a variable-restriction intake that allows for adjusting flow rate to the impeller. Other features include a unique impeller shroud and a shroud guide each movable relative to the impeller. Yet another feature is an exhaust diffuser that facilitates an increase in the range of shaft power and the reduction of deleterious vibration and noise. The turbomachine can also include a unique impeller blade configuration that cooperates with the adjustable intake and the exhaust diffuser to enhance flow through the turbomachine.Type: GrantFiled: January 6, 2012Date of Patent: August 13, 2013Assignee: Concepts ETI, Inc.Inventors: David Japikse, Kevin D. Publication number: 20130069371Abstract: An impulse air turbine arrangement for use with a reversing bi-directional air flow in a wave power plant comprises an axial flow turbine rotor with volutes mounted one each side of the turbine rotor to direct the reversing air flow to and from the turbine rotor. Each volute extends circumferentially with respect to the turbine axis between a radially outer opening and a radially inner opening. The radially outer opening is oriented for input/output of the air in a tangential direction and the radially inner opening is oriented axially to impinge/receive swirling air flow onto/from the turbine rotor.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 20, 2012Publication date: March 21, 2013Applicant: ALSTOM HYDRO FRANCEInventor: Lucy Littlewood

Patent number: 8100631Abstract: A fluid-type absorption dynamometer that includes a rotary impeller and one or more of a variety of features that enhance the shaft-horsepower range for which the dynamometer can be used. One of these features is a variable restriction intake that allows a user to adjust the flow of fluid to the impeller. Other features are a unique impeller shroud and shroud guide that are each movable relative to the impeller to allow a user to adjust flow characteristics at the exhaust and blade regions of the impeller. Yet another feature is a set of exhaust baffles that facilitate an increase in the range of shaft power ratings of the device and the reduction of deleterious vibration and noise. The dynamometer also includes impeller blades having a unique configuration.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 2008Date of Patent: January 24, 2012Assignee: Concepts ETI, Inc.Inventors: Douglas M.
