Plural, Independently Adjustable Patents (Class 415/155)
  • Patent number: 4984965
Abstract: A mounting assembly for a movable annular wall member of an inlet passageway of a variable geometry turbine. The inlet passageway is defined between the movable wall and a facing wall. The wall member is formed from a sheet material and is supported on a plurality of pins which extend parallel to the direction of movement of the wall member. The wall member comprises a tubular portion extending away from the facing wall and each pin supports a radial extending link. Each link is engaged in a respective slot in the tubular portion of the wall member, the links being a relatively close fit in the direction of movement of the wall member and a relatively loose fit in the circumferential direction.

  • Patent number: 4850793
Abstract: Existing steam chests having a plurality of valves which are incapable of operation by individual high pressure valve actuators may be modified to provide apparatus for transferring operation of a steam turbine at less than a full load betweeen a full-arc admission mode and a partial-arc admission mode. For those steam chests of the internal bar lift type, the outboard valves are disconnected from the bar and coupled directly to respective servomotors. As such, the pre-existing servomotor utilized to lift the internal bar, as well as the additional servomotors for the outboard valves, are operatively connected to a conventional control means. In those steam chests of the external bar lift type, an additional servomotor is coupled through an actuator rod to the pre-existing pivot point of the external bar, and is thereafter controlled by conventional means for interactively activating the pre-existing servomotor and the additional servomotor.

  • Patent number: 4657481
Abstract: An inlet guide vane apparatus for the adjustable insertion and retraction of a guide vane into the inlet passage of a compressor and the adjustable varying of the flow direction of the fluid downstream of the vane body by varying the angle of attack of the vane body includes a longitudinal vane body protruding part way across the inlet passage of the compressor through an aperture in the inlet shroud, and a winglet attached to the end of the vane body extending inboard the compressor inlet shroud. The degree of insertion of the vane body into the passage may be controlled by a pneumatically actuated slidable plunger attached to the vane body and responsive to the compressor discharge pressure. The angle of attack of the vane body may be controlled by a rotatable plunger cylinder having a longitudinally extending groove engaging a pin radially extending from a lateral portion of the body of the plunger.

  • Patent number: 4456032
Abstract: In an admission valve structure for a turbine all of the valves except the first opening one are spring biased closed, when seated. Because of the sequential opening of the valves, the valve closing bias of each spring acts as an opening bias relative to all earlier opening valves until that valve is opened. The combined spring forces act to open at least some of the valves thus permitting the governor to attain minimum speed once the throttle valve is opened in the steam header.

  • Patent number: 4403912
Abstract: A linkage system for actuating the variable vanes and the air bleed valve of a gas turbine engine compressor in an intermittent sequence includes a single actuator and a linkage mechanism. The latter is formed of a first actuating linkage extending to the bleed control valve, a second actuation linkage extending to the variable guide vanes, and an intermediate crank mechanism connected to the first and second actuating linkages and also to the single actuator. The linkage system is operative to convert the linear motion from the single actuator to multiplane intermittent rotational motion of the actuating linkages extending to the variable vanes and the bleed valve of the compressor. When embodied in a military aircraft, the single actuator is preferably disposed above the compressor casing so as to make it less vulnerable to enemy ground fire.

  • Patent number: 4040766
Abstract: In a wicket gate protecting device for hydraulic machines, a pair of link plates transmitting a force between a gate control ring and a gate lever, is connected to the gate lever through a shear pin. The gate lever disposed between the link plates, and rotatably supported about the shear pin. When the movement of the wicket gate is restricted by obstacles entered between adjacent gate vanes, the shear pin is cut and a part of the shear pin supporting the gate lever moves along between the link plates for a distance and is stopped by friction between the link plates and the shear pin, thereby preventing damage to the neighboring gate vanes.
