Abstract: An elevating ceiling fan including a downrod assembly having a base and a plurality of first magnetic devices, a rotor having a plurality of second magnetic devices, and a plurality of fan blades attached to the rotor. The plurality of first magnetic devices are capable of alternating polarity in order to induce rotation of the rotor and plurality of fan blades, where rotation of the rotor and the plurality of fan blades causes the rotor and the plurality of fan blades to elevate above the base of the downrod assembly.

  • Publication number: 20140193258
Abstract: A swing fan structure includes a main body and multiple blades. The main body has an upper face and a lower face. The main body also has a long side and a short side. The blades are side by side disposed on the upper face of the main body in parallel to each other. The blades define therebetween a flow way. The blades are drivable by the main body to reciprocally move along the long side to create an air volume. The swing fan structure has a greatly minified volume. Also, the swing fan structure overcomes the shortcoming of unstable operation of the conventional fan caused by deflection of the blades in rotation.

  • Patent number: 8469663
Abstract: Method and apparatus for converting the kinetic energy of a moving fluid stream into useful work by using a parallel cascade of aerofoils or hydrofoils positioned therein. The foils may be provided with at least two degrees of freedom and adjacent foils move in antiphase. The foils are subjected to resonant oscillations, known as flutter, induced by the fluid flow. Profiled inflow and outflow ducts may be positioned upstream and downstream, and the apparatus may be enclosed in a profiled duct, to increase efficiency by altering the fluid velocity and pressure. The foils are cantilevered, supported by vertical rods but are otherwise unattached. A cascade comprised of independent foil modules, each including a foil, a power conversion module and a motion control module, may be programmed to (1) receive energy from a fluid stream to generate power, or (2) transfer energy into a fluid stream to create propulsion or pumping.

  • Publication number: 20120235417
Abstract: A reciprocating transducer to convert windpower to electrical energy includes an odd sub-array of blades and an even sub-array of blades, wherein two odd thrust rods are pivotably coupled to the ends of each of the odd numbered blades, two even thrust rods are pivotably coupled to the ends of each of the even numbered blades, an odd tilt rod is pivotably coupled to the trailing edge of each of the odd numbered blades, an even tilt rod is pivotably coupled to the trailing edge of each of the even numbered blades. The tilt rods are moved up and down, thereby changing the attitude of the blades, a crank shaft converts the linear motion of the thrust rods into rotational motion, and a generator converts the rotational motion into electrical power.

  • Patent number: 6948911
Abstract: A water torque converter for extracting energy from the reciprocal motion of water beneath waves in a body of water comprising an open frame on which is mounted a rigid sail. The rigid sail is guidingly moved from one end of the frame to the opposite end of the frame by the reciprocal motion of the water. An elongated driving member is connected through a multi-clutch mechanism to the sail. This elongated driving member is also connected to an output shaft. The reciprocal movement of the sail results in the output shaft to be rotationally driven in one direction.

  • Patent number: 6273680
Abstract: Method and apparatus for converting the kinetic energy of a moving fluid stream into useful work by using a cascade of thin aero or hydro foils positioned therein. The foils may be provided with at least two degrees of freedom and adjacent foils move out of phase. The foils are subjected to fluid induced oscillations known as flutter. Barriers (3, 43) may be positioned upstream, above, or at sides of the apparatus for increasing efficiency by increasing the fluid velocity. A system of flywheels (17, 18) are used to increase inertia of the foils and are particularly useful with hydrofoils. A cascade of aero or hydro foils may be mechanically oscillated to transfer energy to a fluid.

  • Patent number: 4347036
Abstract: There is disclosed a method and apparatus for converting the kinetic energy of a moving fluid stream into useful work by means of a cascade of thin airfoils positioned therein. In one embodiment, the airfoils are provided with at least two degrees of freedom and adjacent airfoils are movable out of phase. The airfoils are subjected to the aerodynamically induced oscillations caused by the aeroelastic phenomenon known as flutter and the oscillatory movement is then harnessed to do useful work. In an alternate embodiment, a cascade of airfoils is mechanically oscillated within a moving fluid stream to increase the propulsion of the fluid. Where the fluid is a liquid, the cascade includes a plurality of hydrofoils.

  • Patent number: 4345386
Abstract: Disclosed herein is an air agitation device that is positioned between two opposite sets of shelves on which the articles to be dried are placed. The device constitutes two identical crankshafts, oriented in the same direction, that rotate in synchrony with respect to axes perpendicular to the opposite surfaces of the said sets of shelves. To the crankpins of the said shafts are articulated, on opposite sides, two ventilation frames, each of which provided with a plurality of fins oriented suitably with respect to the said sets of shelves. The synchronous rotation of the crankshafts renders movable each frame, which oscillates with a harmonic motion in two inter-perpendicular directions, one of which is coincident with the longitudinal axis of the passageway existing between the sets of shelves.

  • Patent number: 4124182
Abstract: Method and apparatus using parakites, or modified parachutes, for capturing wind energy and for converting the consequent wind-induced linear motion to shaft rotation. The parakite apparatus includes a plurality of trains of parakites, with each train comprising a power line having a plurality of serially coupled parakites secured thereto. The power lines are of sufficient length to allow the parakites to reach an altitude above the earth at which prevailing winds are stronger and more uniform than at the earth's surface. Each train is secured at its earthbound end to a drum or windlass selectively rotatable in both clockwise and counter-clockwise directions to either reel in the power lines attached thereto, or to enable the power lines to be pulled upwardly and outwardly by the action of the winds on the parakites. Provision is made, including canopy lines, to selectively collapse the parakites on selected power lines to facilitate the reeling-in procedure.
