Changeable By Assembly Or Disassembly Patents (Class 417/238)
  • Patent number: 4360319
Abstract: A compressor has flat cylinder heads in which circular valves are disposed. The valves are of the type having a slotted valve seat and a slotted valve guard, with elongated valve elements disposed between the seat and the guard to open and close the slots of the valve seat. The flat circular valves are perpendicular to the piston axis and extend substantially farther from the piston axis than does the piston and so directly overlie only a portion of the piston. Therefore, the slots are provided only on the radially inner portion of the valve, the radially outer portion being imperforate. This enables the valve to be used with pistons of different diameters and under various conditions of operating pressure. Also, the cylinder liner is provided with a port at the intersection of its cylindrical inner side wall and its end wall that confronts the valve, whereby part of the clearance volume extends radially outwardly under those slots which would otherwise be masked by the liner.

  • Patent number: 4350475
Abstract: An air cooled compressor is provided with a centrifugal type fan mounted on one end of a motor shaft. Cooling air is drawn through a shroud for bearing eccentric and connecting rod cooling. A shroud also directs the cooling air drawn and delivered by the fan, over the external surfaces of thinned cylinders and cylinder heads. The cooling air flowing over the thinned cylinder heads also functions to cool the intake air which assists in reducing the temperature experience within the compression chambers of the compressor. A pair of oppositely disposed openings are formed in the wall of each cylinder, which openings register with a wrist-pin that connects a connecting rod to a reciprocating piston when the piston is in the lowermost portion of a stroke within the cylinder. This construction allows the cooling air to flow through the hollow wrist-pin for cooling purposes.

  • Patent number: 4255090
Abstract: The conversion of a multi-cylinder liquid cooled internal combustion engine into a powered air compressor by placing inserts into parts of the cylinder head above certain of the cylinders after removal of the valve gear therefrom. The insert seals the coolant jacket in the cylinder head and provides surfaces for receiving a proprietary air compressor valve. The insert may be arranged to connect with ports in the cylinder head in which case the engine manifolding must be modified to separate the compressor air flows from the engine gases, although where the engine receives air as an inlet gas (e.g. a diesel engine) the inlet manifold can be used to provide air to the converted cylinders as well. The cylinders selected for conversion should be chosen having regard to the balance and smoothness of running of the remaining cylinders used to drive them.

  • Patent number: 4244122
Abstract: An arrangement for modifying a plow blade power unit of the type positioned between the mounting frame on the front of a vehicle and a plow blade lift arm, to a unit for creating pressurized fluid from a remote location. Modification enables a basically similar power unit to be utilized in both remote and direct operational environments with only minor substitution of interchangable parts. A piston-cylinder unit which enables direct lifting of a plow blade is replaced by a modified, but similar, cylindrical element for use in indirect lifting of a plow blade by fluid under pressure.

  • Patent number: 4229142
Abstract: A single motor 25 simultaneously drives two pump elements mounted on its shaft ends. The hydraulic circuit, the motor and the pump elements are contained within a one-piece 3-part assembly comprising a central part 2 placed between two end parts 1 and 3. It is merely necessary to change the relative orientation of one of the end parts, the movable part 1, through 180.degree. in order to couple the two pump elements in series or in parallel as required. The pumping device operates immersed.Suitable for several applications to meet domestic and light industrial requirements.

  • Patent number: 4160623
Abstract: A deep well pump includes a cylinder having a foot valve and a valved piston which is movable over a given range in the cylinder. The cylinder is preferably formed of plastic, extends above ground and below the range of movement of the piston, and is of constant diameter over its length. The piston rod also extends above ground and is of variable length to vary the range of movement of the piston. The foot valve structure and piston structure are interchangeable and connected together during operation by a slackened cable.

  • Patent number: 4125176
Abstract: Pump body has a cylindrical chamber within which a spool-shaped insert fits. The insert has a central cylindrical bore within which the injection plunger works and has an external annular groove communicating with the bore through a lubricant supply port having a diameter smaller than that of the bore. Lubricant is furnished to the bore through an opening in the pump body which communicates into the annular space defined by the insert groove. The fit between the plunger and bore is interrupted only through the arcuate extent of the diameter of the lubricant supply port.

  • Patent number: 4105371
Abstract: A refrigerant compressor constructed for the addition of one or more pumping cylinders for the change of capacity. Improved mechanical efficiency is attained by means of a motor-driven eccentric cam imparting linear motion through one or more of the compressor pistons to the compression stroke and wherein the work to reciprocate each piston is assisted by dual out-of-phase compression springs. The cam is configured for producing a predetermined dwell-period when each piston reaches its bottom-dead-center position wherein a maximum gas charge will be inducted into the cylinder bore by the ram velocity effect of the inward moving gas stream. In a like manner the cam design provides piston dwell time at its top-dead-center position wherein an increased gas charge will be expelled per cycle resulting in increased volumetric efficiency.

  • Patent number: 4089620
Abstract: A motor-driven propeller is disposed within a draft tube beneath a buoyant float and is adapted to pump water upwardly through the draft tube. In one mode of operation, the pumping device functions as an aerator in that the water pumped upwardly through the draft tube flows upwardly through an opening in the float and is deflected across the upper side of the float and into the atmosphere by a diffuser plate spaced above the opening. The pumping device can be converted into a flow developer by positioning the diffuser plate beneath the opening in the float and, when the plate is so positioned, water pumped upwardly through the draft tube strikes the plate and is deflected outwardly beneath the lower side of the float.
