Variable Cutoff Or Pumping Member Controlled Port Patents (Class 417/289)
  • Patent number: 4167373
Abstract: A fuel injection pumping apparatus comprises a displacement piston which is located within the cylinder, an outlet from one end of the cylinder and a fluid pressure operable member mounted within a further cylinder for actuating the piston and causing fuel to be delivered through the outlet. Means is operable upon movement of the displacement piston to a predetermined position to terminate delivery of fuel through the outlet and valve means is provided to control the application of fluid under pressure to the fluid pressure operable member.

  • Patent number: 4073275
Abstract: A fuel injection pump for diesel engines has a reciprocating pressure piston which also rotates to distribute fuel to the individual injection valves. At idling and low engine load, the duration of injection is extended by permitting part of the fuel advanced by the piston to flow back to the fuel storage compartment. The fuel control mechanism adjusts the piston stroke to compensate for this lost fuel, thereby extending the duration of injection and reducing engine noise.

  • Patent number: 4069799
Abstract: A multiple plunger injection pump for an internal combustion engine, in which plungers are arranged in alignment in one line. A housing which holds the governor within chambers, is arranged so that all chambers are filled with fuel. The fuel is supplied to the chambers under pressure for purposes of lubricating and cooling the moving parts. The housing has bores into which are fitted pump barrels. The plungers are movable in the barrels. A control rod used for regulating the pump metering, is linked to the base of the barrels for rotational movement of the plungers. A spring presses tappets against a cam for reciprocal movement of the plungers which are provided with spring discs in proximity of a passage supplying fuel to the fuel supply means. The fuel supply means is spaced from the chamber of driving means by the discs, and is connected to the driving chamber by the driving means, through gaps of the spring discs. Part of the fuel supply flows to the chamber of the driving means through the gaps.

  • Patent number: 4050856
Abstract: In one form of the invention, a rotatable and axially slidable plunger mounted within a fixed cylindrical plunger barrel forms with the barrel the casing bore and a spring biased electromagnetically driven axially slidable cut off sleeve, a dash pot chamber including a narrow radial gap between the cut off barrel and the pump casing body. The high pressure cut-off fuel may be directed to the chamber. Alternatively, the cut-off fuel may be directed to impact a deflector to produce an axial force modulating axial shift of the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4036193
Abstract: A plunger is reciprocable in a barrel to force fuel to the injection nozzles. The portion of the barrel defining with the plunger the compression chamber is movable and is formed with a port leading to the unpressurized fuel reservoir in such a manner that the plunger uncovers the port at the end of its fuel injection stroke to overflow fuel from the compression chamber to the reservoir and terminate fuel injection. The position of the movable portion of the barrel and thereby the port relative to the plunger determines the fuel injection volume. A closed loop electronic servo system is provided to position the movable part of the barrel in accordance with the required fuel injection volume.

  • Patent number: 3945360
Abstract: An improved rpm regulator for a fuel injection pump associated with an internal combustion engine. The regulator includes a control lever, a fuel quantity control sleeve connected to the control lever, a regulating spring assembly connected to the control lever, a device for generating an rpm signal and applying a corresponding force through the control lever to the fuel quantity control sleeve in opposition to a force exerted by the regulating spring assembly and an adjustment lever connected to the regulating spring assembly for adjusting the preload exerted by the regulating spring assembly. The regulating spring assembly is improved and includes two holding members containing two compression springs so that when the two holding members are moved outwardly relative to each other the two springs are compressed. The springs are chosen and the holding members designed so as to minimize the degree of variation which can occur during a control process.

  • Patent number: 3942914
Abstract: A fuel injection pump for internal combustion engines includes a pump piston whose simultaneous reciprocation and rotation distributes pressurized fuel to the several injection nozzles of the engine. In order to shift the onset of fuel injection towards a later time during the delivery stroke of the piston, relief channels are disposed in the piston and in the surrounding cylindrical bushing. An annular slide, moving coaxially with respect to the piston, cooperates with the terminal apertures of one or more of these relief channels to relieve the fluid pressure in the working chamber of the pump, thereby interrupting fuel injection to the nozzles of the engine.
