  • Patent number: 4475872
Abstract: A water pump includes a pump stand and a spout mounted on the stand for communication with its interior. A rotary drive shaft supported by the pump stand extends downwardly to an underground water supply. A pump rotor supported by the drive shaft is positioned within a stator communicating with the water supply, for cooperating to pump water to the pump stand and the spout. An input shaft applies a rotary driving motion to a gear box mounted on the pump stand, which in turn applies a rotary driving motion to the drive shaft. The gear box includes first and second bevel gears mounted on the input shaft in a spaced apart relation. A first clutch permits relative rotary motion in a first direction between the input shaft and the first gear while prohibiting relative rotary motion in a second direction. A second clutch permits relative rotary motion between the input shaft and the second bevel gear in the second direction, while prohibiting relative rotary motion in the first direction.

  • Patent number: 4420289
Abstract: The invention concerns a system for successively producing fluid flows at staggered values. This system includes for example an epicycloidal differential of which a shaft is coupled to an engine, and the other two shafts to two pumps respectively producing the maximum necessary flow and producing the minimum flow; to each pump is connected a brake; when the circuit, for example a jack, fed by this system becomes saturated, the pressure of the fluid sent by the high flow pump increases and reaches a threshold detected by a pressure detector-switch, the latter applies the brake which stops the pump and releases the brake of the other pump. The invention is applicable for example to feeding hydraulic jacks, in particular for turboshaft engines.

  • Patent number: 4358251
Abstract: A scotch yoke radial compressor especially adapted for use in automotive airconditioners having a cast aluminum crankcase which is split along a plane axially passing through the center lines of the radially oriented cylinders. Each of the crankcase halves has a plurality of radially extending semicylindrical recesses which, when assembled, form the cylinders. Cylindrical cylinder liners are preassembled to the pistons and this assembly is then placed in one of the crankcase halves with the liners being received in their respective semicylindrical recesses. The second crankcase half is then secured to the first, again with the semi-cylindrical recesses overlying the cylinder liners. • Patent number: 4293281
Abstract: A compressor system which may be mounted for mobile use including dual power systems for driving the compressor. An electric motor is located in driving relationship to the compressor so that air is compressed when the rotor shaft of the motor is rotated. Rotation of the rotor shaft may be accomplished either by energizing the stator of the motor or by driving the rotor directly from an associated engine, coupled thereto by means of an electromagnetic clutch. If desired, the engine may also be utilized to drive a generator in order to provide electrical power to other devices. The control circuit may include safety interlocks which prevent energization of both the electric motor and the electromagnetic clutch simultaneously. Other safety devices may also be employed to disconnect power from the motor and the clutch, as necessary, if certain contaminants are sensed in the compressed air, to shut off the engine for over-limit conditions of temperature, air pressure, and the like.

  • Patent number: 4173055
Abstract: The pump drive mechanism is driven by a wiper drive motor having a drive pin adapted to revolve in a circular path, while driving the wipers, and which is displaced along a generally radially directed path outwardly of the circular path, at a prescribed point thereon, when the wipers are moved to the park position. The mechanism has a rotatable drive cam, which is connected, via a cam follower, to reciprocate the piston rod of the pump. To facilitate installation, the drive cam carries a drive pin engaging portion designed to automatically engage the drive pin, after the first actuation of the wiper motor, regardless of the initial relative positions of the drive pin and drive cam. As a result, the necessity for positioning the drive cam with respect to the drive pin in a prescribed position during installation is eliminated.

  • Patent number: 4095922
Abstract: A pump such as a vehicle air conditioner compressor has a compressor shaft, a continuously engine-driven flywheel and means such as an electromagnetic clutch for selectively coupling the flywheel to the shaft to operate the pump. The flywheel also provides a permanent magnet field which field rotates with the flywheel and induces in the windings of a relatively stationary annular stator assembly an electric voltage in response to the rotating magnetic field. The pump shaft, annular clutch actuating coil, annular stator assembly, and permanent magnet flywheel are all generally concentrically disposed and in the order stated. The flywheel is driven any time that the engine is running thereby inducing a voltage in the stator windings and that flywheel also drives the exemplary compressor when the clutch is actuated.

  • Patent number: 4077748
Abstract: A turbomachine plant comprises a gas turbine, a synchronous electrical machine operable as a motor or generator, and a compressor all mounted on the same shafting and adapted to be coupled together for two optional operating modes. In a first operating mode, the gas turbine serves to drive the synchronous electrical machine for generation of electrical power and the compressor is not utilized. In the second operating mode, the synchronous electrical machine operating as a motor serves to drive the compressor for gas compression and the gas turbine is not utilized. When in the first operating mode the compressor is not disconnected by conventional clutch means from the gas turbine-synchronous electrical machine group but rather always remains connected to that group and is arranged by suitable valving so as to rotate in a vacuum type of operation with a power loss which is slight in relation to the gas turbine.
