Patent number: 7392737Abstract: This is a dynamic system for refrigeration equipment. This invention provides special features, including a set of mechanisms, electro-mechanisms, and electronic controls for refrigeration compression chambers or other kinds of fluids that employ two, three, or four compression chambers. There is extremely low vibration, noise, cost, and energy consumption in this equipment. It does not overheat and has a reduced size, lightweight and requires less raw materials to build it. There are other advantages in its technical aspects. It can be run on an electric motor or only with solenoid coils for traction. The applications include, but are not limited to, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, cold stores, refrigerated trucks, compressors for automotive air-conditioning, etc. Other applications include those that normally require a piston (piston-air compressor or diaphragm compressor to fill tires, spray painting, etc . ).Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 2004Date of Patent: July 1, 2008Inventor: Aurélio Mayorca

Patent number: 4678407Abstract: A free piston machine comprising a mounting, an inner movable mechanism comprising a central cross-member and guided in translation so as to be able to move with an alternating motion along the axis of the mounting and an outer movable mechanism comprising two outer cross-members connected by at least one tie-rod. The mounting includes a base (10) and a header (11) connected by at least one central one-piece structure. The inner movable mechanism comprises four inner drive pistons movable along drive cylinders (15a-15b) arranged at the corners of a rectangle and two compressor pistons sliding in compressor cylinders (17a-17b) whose axles pass outside of said rectangle.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 1981Date of Patent: July 7, 1987Inventor: Henry Benaroya

Patent number: 4561256Abstract: This disclosure relates to an external combustion engine including an engine housing forming at least one pair of opposed cylinders, a piston mounted for reciprocating motion in each cylinder, a rotatable power output shaft mounted between the pistons, and a roller assembly connecting the pistons with the shaft. A boiler and a condenser are connected to supply a pressurized vapor to the cylinders in order to reciprocate the pistons and rotate the shaft. The moving pistons operate as an air pump for moving air through the condenser and the boiler.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 1983Date of Patent: December 31, 1985Assignee: Power Shaft EngineInventor: Albert J. Patent number: 4412476Abstract: An opposed free piston tandem machine includes at least two drive piston-cylinder groups A and B and compressor cylinders and movable parts of this machine constitute two trains. The compressor cylinders of the outer movable train are arranged outside cross-pieces (23, 24) on which the drive pistons and outer compressors (3, 6, 15, 16, 17, 18) are fixed and which are joined together by linking rods (25, 26). The machine can include several drive units and several compressor units, and constitute an autogenerator of gas.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 1980Date of Patent: November 1, 1983Inventor: Henry Benaroya

Patent number: 4382748Abstract: A free piston engine pump (FPEP) converts combustion energy into hydraulic power in an efficient, controlled and relatively uncomplicated manner, for example, for vehicle propulsion, auxiliary system power, etc. The FPEP is substantially naturally mass balanced having opposed engine pistons driving respective in-line hydraulic pumps. An adjustable accumulator with a deformable fluid-tight chamber containing a compressible fluid stores and delivers energy for compression, and an arrangement of control valves and check valves enables selective operation of the FPEP in primary (high flow) and secondary (high pressure) modes. Plural FPEP's may be interfaced for parallel operation sharing common elements and functions. Cycle rate, intermittent operation and start-up also may be controlled. Electronic monitoring and control of one or more operational parameters of a FPEP also are disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 1980Date of Patent: May 10, 1983Assignee: Pneumo CorporationInventor: Robert D. Patent number: 4273261Abstract: Apparatus for metering material and transferring it from one location is provided. The new metering apparatus has several advantages over that disclosed in my U.S. Pat. No. 4,118,799. The apparatus includes a pair of cylinders with rams which are reciprocated in opposite directions by gear racks connected thereto and driven by a common pinion. A plurality of pairs of the cylinders and rams can be mounted on a common frame or base to meter a number of different materials. Also, the rams, with or without the cylinders, can be readily replaced with components of different diameters to provide different metered quantities of materials. In addition, mechanism are provided for changing the stroke lengths of one or more pair of rams when two or more pairs are employed.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 1979Date of Patent: June 16, 1981Inventor: Wallace F. Krueger

Patent number: 4115037Abstract: An engine driven reciprocating air compressor. The engine is operated in a through scavenge two-stroke mode. The engine has opposed pistons reciprocating in opposition in a cylinder, the pistons being rigidly connected to respective compressor pistons working in compressor cylinders. A crankshaft rotates about an axis perpendicular to and intersecting the engine cylinder axis. The piston pairs are directly coupled to the crankshaft by connecting rods. The crankshaft synchronizes the piston pairs, defines their strokes, and provides rotary motion for auxiliary devices. The connecting rods and crankshaft are lightweight and do not transmit full engine power. The piston pairs are provided with inward return energy from a flywheel on the crankshaft and air trapped in compressor cylinder clearance volumes. The inward faces of the compressor pistons may be used to compress fuel/air mixture to the scavenge pressure.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1975Date of Patent: September 19, 1978Assignee: Direct Power LimitedInventor: Stanley Milton Butler
