  • Patent number: 5738498
Abstract: In a piston pump for pumping liquid carbon dioxide at a temperature below 30 degrees Fahrenheit and pressures at least as high as 7500 psi at an outlet flow rate in excess of 10 milliliters per minute, the inlet to the pump and the pumphead are each cooled by thermoelectric heat exchangers that are air cooled. The pump is a cam-driven, single-plunger pump with a cam profile that enables the pumping system to avoid distructive reverse torque on the cam, gear train and drive motor after the cam passes top dead center. The volume leaving the pump is determined by measuring only pressure or other parameter related to flow and movement of the plunger. The piston of the pump is supported on both sides of the seal and the support for the piston within the pumphead are machined consentrically and colinearly to the seal gland.

  • Patent number: 5700138
Abstract: A submersible centrifugal pump (10) includes a casing (11) which houses a motor (13) and a pump assembly (14). A shaft (12) which carries the impeller (37) portion of the pump assembly (14) is driven by the motor (13) to draw fluid, in which the pump (10) is immersed, into the casing (11) in one embodiment through inlet ports (38) to be transferred to the pump assembly (14) and thereby pumped to a remote location. The shaft (12) has an axial bore (40) therein which is open at the bottom (41) to receive fluid. That fluid moves upwardly within the shaft (12) and passes out through radial bores (43) to join with the fluid received from the inlet ports (38). As such, internal fluid positioned in a chamber (23) is cooled by the fluid passing through the shaft (12) and that internal fluid in turn maintains the components in the casing (11) cool. In another embodiment, a submersible centrifugal pump (50) has inlet ports (51) formed near the top of its discharge bowl (15).

  • Patent number: 5653125
Abstract: A refrigeration compressor of the hermetically sealed type. The rotor of the motor is enclosed within the envelope providing the seal, whereas the stationary winding is external to this envelope. The refrigerant circuit cools the compressor and rotor in the normal fashion, and the stationary winding is cooled by ambient air. This reduces the total cooling burden imposed upon the compressor and its motor, thus reducing electrical consumption, In some applications, the rotor includes a magnetic drive which rotates a fan external to the envelope, which fan moves ambient air over the winding, thereby cooling the same. Thus, a second benefit is provided in that one of two motors conventionally furnished in an air conditioning condensing unit is eliminated. This increases electrical energy savings since one large motor is normally more efficient than two smaller ones, when total outputs are equal.

  • Patent number: 4990068
Abstract: The present invention relates to a sealed centrifugal pump used for delivering special liquids and that overcomes the limitations of well-known canned or sealed motor pumps, including relatively short service life of the bearings and unsuitability for delivering liquids or fluids containing tiny particles or contaminents by means of a new type of structure in which the bearings, which are working in liquid phase, are isolated from the pumped fluid medium. This enables ball bearings to be used as the support of the canned motor, the use of lubricating oil and grease for the ball bearings, and the forced cooling of the lubricant and bearings other than by the pumped fluid, so that the service life of the whole pump unit has been increased, and the delivery of liquids containing tiny particles is enabled.

Abstract: A hermetic compressor assembly is disclosed including a motor-compressor unit disposed within a hermetically sealed housing, wherein the housing has an oil sump in the bottom thereof from which oil is drawn to lubricate the compressor mechanism. An electric drive motor includes a vertical rotor having a lower axial end adjacent the oil sump. An arc-shaped counterbalance weight and an annular plate member having a smooth bottom surface adjacent the oil sump are connected to the lower axial end of the rotor, whereby upon rotation of the rotor turbulence and resulting agitation of the oil in the oil sump are prevented. In one embodiment, the counterbalance weight and plate member are integrally formed. In other embodiments, the weight is disposed intermediate the rotor and a flat or dish-shaped plate member, which presents a smooth bottom surface adjacent the oil sump.

The portable delivery system provides all basic tools and accessories which are necessary for a dentist to perform all types of dental work which may be required by patients. The dental delivery system includes a quiet running, pressurized clean air supply system for operating the various tools and accessories utilized by the dentist. A hermetically enclosed refrigeration compressor unit is modified to provide an adequate supply of pressurized air in an extremely quiet manner. The temperature of the compressor unit is maintained at a safe level by an oil cooling system. A pump draws oil from the base of the compressor unit, passes it through a radiator which is additionally cooled by an axial fan. The oil is returned to the compressor unit at the top of the housing at a location which will cause the oil to impinge directly upon the cylinder head of the compressor.
