Abstract: A micropump has two chambers separated by an actuator for causing fluid to flow in the chambers. Each chamber is equipped with a ball that acts as a valve for allowing flow in a desired direction. The balls are heavier than the fluid being pumped, and reside at an interface between the chambers and passages feeding fluid into the chambers and provide a tight seal between the chambers and passages feeding the chambers when fluid pressure forces the fluid back toward the feeding passages.

  • Patent number: 6910871
Abstract: Valve guide and spring retainer assemblies are described for use in plunger pump housings that incorporate structural features for stress-relief. These pump housing structural features accommodate correspondingly-shaped valve guides and/or spring retainers that are internally fixed in place using one or more non-threaded spacers. Plunger pumps so constructed are relatively resistant to fatigue failure because of stress reductions, and they may incorporate a variety of valve styles, including top and lower stem-guided valves and crow-foot-guided valves, in easily-maintained configurations. Besides securing valve guides and/or spring retainers, non-threaded spacers may be shaped and dimensioned to aid in further reducing stress and to improve volumetric efficiency of the pumps in which they are used.

Abstract: A cylinder assembly for a hermetic compressor includes a cylinder block having a cylinder in which a piston reciprocates; a cylinder head connected to a cylinder block to seal the cylinder, the head having an inlet hole and being divided by a partition into a first and a second discharge chamber that serve as an outlet path. A valve assembly formed between the cylinder block and the cylinder head, which controls refrigerant outlet and inlet to and from the cylinder according to different refrigerant pressures inside and outside the cylinder. When a sound wave (that is created as the suction valve or the discharge valve hits the valve plate) escapes to a discharge valve through a first and second discharge chambers, sound transmission loss occurs due to boundary interference and as a result, the sound wave is reduced. By this method, noise can be reduced in operating the compressor.

  • Patent number: 6454545
Abstract: In the present compressor, a retainer is prevented from being deformed without impairing the sealing performance of a metal gasket provided between a covering member for closing a compression chamber of a cylinder block assembly and a discharge valve forming plate. A discharge valve forming plate is provided between a valve plate having at least one discharge port through which a fluid compressed in a compression chamber of a cylinder block assembly is discharged into a discharge chamber of a housing and the cylinder block assembly. A retainer for restricting the magnitude of opening of a discharge valve is integrally formed in a metal gasket which is provided between the discharge valve forming plate and the housing. The housing is provided with a restricting section at a position corresponding to a proximal portion of a rising portion of the retainer for restricting the proximal portion of the top surface of a rising portion.

Abstract: A combination valve including a metal sleeve and a valve body. The valve body is formed of a resilient material and insert bonded or vulcanized to the metal sleeve and includes a cylindrical elongated member defining a passageway therethrough and an annular umbrella portion integrally extending from the elongated member. The elongated member is disposed within the metal sleeve and has converging flexible lips. The metal sleeve includes a plurality of prongs at one end and the valve body includes a top surface. The prongs of the metal sleeve extend to the top surface of the valve body, whereby the valve can be press-fitted into location without damaging the valve body. Between the prongs of the metal sleeve are gaps which permit the molding material to flow from the umbrella portion to the elongated member during the molding of the combination valve.

  • Patent number: 6439863
Abstract: A fuel pump designed to prevent vapor lock. The pump comprises an inlet check valve located between a pumping chamber and a reservoir. The inlet check valve allows the flow of fluid from the reservoir into the pumping chamber. The inlet check valve is constructed such that when a combination of both liquid and vapor is present in the pumping chamber, the liquid and vapor is allowed to flow from the pumping chamber back into the reservoir; but when the pumping chamber is filled only with liquid, the inlet check valve prohibits flow from the pumping chamber into the reservoir.

Abstract: A head cover assembly for a two cylinder compressor is described. The head cover assembly is mounted over the compressor cylinders and includes a one piece valve plate with a pair of removable heads. The valve plate includes two substantially identical cylinder covers disposed over a pair of plate sections, thereby enclosing a volume above each plate section with a head installed. Each cylinder cover includes a divider wall which divides the enclosed volume of the cover into an intake volume and an exhaust volume. A pair of passageways provides communication between the cylinder covers connecting the exhaust volumes and the intake volumes.

Abstract: In the suction valve structure of the piston type compressor of the present invention, the primary suction valve 38 is a flexible deforming valve composed of a deforming section 381, which is supported and bent by a cantilever method, and a closing section 382 which connects with a forward end of the deforming section 381 and closes the primary suction port 21. The auxiliary suction valve 39 is a flexible deforming valve composed of a deforming section 391, which is supported-and bent by a cantilever method, and a closing section 392 which connects with a forward end of the deforming section 391 and closes the auxiliary suction port 22. In the present invention, the length of the deforming section 381 of the primary suction valve 38 is approximately the same as that of the deforming section 391 of the auxiliary suction valve 39, however, the width of the deforming section 381 of the primary suction valve 38 is made larger than that of the deforming section 391 of the auxiliary suction valve 39.

  • Patent number: 6415956
Abstract: A hand holdable pump spray apparatus is disclosed where the pump mechanism is in the hand holdable wand rather than in a spaced apart liquid container. The wand may be held with one hand while a pump handle is extended with the other hand. This creates a pressure differential which allows liquid to flow from the container, passed a check valve and into the wand. After filling, a biased spring provides a force against the liquid creating a higher pressure in the wand than ambient pressure. This closes the check valve. When an operator depresses an actuator, another valve opens allowing the liquid in the wand to be ejected through a nozzle.
