Moving Partition On Stationary Member Patents (Class 418/175)
  • Patent number: 10030658
Abstract: A positive displacement device includes a first cylinder, a second cylinder disposed within the first cylinder, and a third cylinder disposed around the first cylinder. An interior surface of the first cylinder and an exterior surface of the second cylinder define an inner cavity. An exterior surface of the first cylinder and an interior surface of the third cylinder define an outer cavity. A partition between the interior surface of the first cylinder and the exterior surface of the second cylinder divides the inner cavity into inner regions, and another partition between the exterior surface of the first cylinder and the interior surface of the third cylinder divides the outer cavity into outer regions. The second cylinder and the third cylinder orbit with respect to the first cylinder to create alternating regions of high pressure and low pressure in the inner regions and the outer regions.

  • Patent number: 6607371
Abstract: Expansible chamber apparatus for a positive displacement, high volume, low friction, reversible rotary pump for gases and/or liquids. Two or more chambers are provided, defined in part by one or more small abutments that move radially in a slot to switch or redirect fluid flow with minimal loss of fluid mechanical energy. A complementary pair of chambers, formed by a single groove, is radially divided by a concentric land ring and is longitudinally segmented by the abutment, which seals the chambers against reverse leakage. The abutment is slightly smaller in radial dimension than the groove and is floated to avoid hard contact with the inner and outer land ring surfaces of the groove by a balancing of the Bernoulli effects that develop. The apparatus can also be operated as a fluid compressor, as a motor and in other applications, in single cycle or multiple cycle operation. The pump provides substantially non-pulsating fluid flow in one or more stages.

  • Patent number: 6257195
Abstract: The internal combustion engine allows charging with an air/fuel mixture into the combustion chamber while the combustion chamber is under combustion pressure and outputs power virtually continuously at the same time, i.e., the novel engine has an almost continuous fuel feed and, due to substantially continuous combustion, it also has an almost continuous power output. The fuel and/or air is injected by way of mutually intertwined worm spindles that form a fluidtight displacement system. The blades of the impeller system are almost flat, i.e., their attack angle relative to backpressure is close to perpendicular so that they will turn quite freely in the forward direction, but will not be turned backwards by a pressurized backflow. The impeller rotation that is introduced via the spindle shafts nevertheless leads to a volume displacement towards the chamber to be pressurized or to be subjected to equal pressure.

  • Patent number: 5220893
Abstract: A rotary internal combustion engine includes a stationary housing having one or more housing slots extending to a housing interface surface and a rotor, having one or more rotor slots extending to a rotor interface surface turning adjacent to the housing interface surface. A piston and an adjacent vane are slidably mounted in each housing slot, and an intake valve is included to open each housing slot to an intake port. A spark plug is mounted in an outer surface angularly adjacent to each housing slot. The rotor includes cam surfaces to impart motion to each intake valve, piston, and vane. As each rotor slot moves adjacent to each housing slot, a vane is moved into the rotor slot and an intake valve is opened. A mixture of air and fuel floods the space of housing and rotor slots outside the piston on one side of the extended vane, while exhaust gasses from previous combustion are forced out of the space on the opposite side of the extended vane, through an exhaust port, by the motion of the rotor.

  • Patent number: 4456441
Abstract: A rotary engine, either prime mover--or pump or compressor--comprises as its basic element a circular casing in which is journalled rotatably a hollow, cylindrical body, the interior wall face of which ascribes a space delimited by recesses alternating with portions extending towards the center of the space, each recessed portion being diametrically opposite an inwardly extending portion, a solid cylindrical body being positioned within the space, a throughgoing bore extending across the axis of the solid cylindrical body in which bore a piston like member can perform a reciprocal movement. In the case of an internal combustion engine explosion and expansion occur in the space within the hollow cylindrical body and cause it to rotate: rotative movement is derived from a shaft of the body. A drive could be applied to the shaft so that a fluid could be compressed in the space. In use as a pump the fluid to be conveyed is sucked into the working space and expelled therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4390328
Abstract: A fluid driving or fluid driven machine includes an outer cylinder housing stationary piston. The piston includes a generally annular flexible band of smaller circumference than the inner circumference of the cylinder, and a rotary body accommodated within the band. The rotary body has three rollers for urging the band against the inner surface of the cylinder at three angularly spaced locations so that the band defines with the cylinder three working chambers. Two separating members mounted on the cylinder are biased into contact with the band. When the rotary body is rotated the band makes nonslip contact with the wall and rotates the working chambers about the axis of the rotary body. Each separating member separates each working chamber as it passes into two discrete enclosures. A port is located on each side of each separating member to allow communication with the two discrete enclosures. The machine can be operated as a compressor when the rotary body is driven or as an engine to drive the rotary body.

  • Patent number: 4023540
Abstract: An internal combustion engine of the rotary type which includes a cylindrical rotor having a skirt portion, rotating in an annular chamber, that comprises two arcuate walls of differing radii joined by relatively short, diametrically disposed sloping portions that serve as pistons. A sliding divider which extends through the annular chamber and the skirt portion establishes, with the sloping skirt portions, sub-chambers in the annular chamber in which compression of a combustible gas mixture and combustion of the mixture take place, the latter producing power for moving the rotor and the power shaft attached thereto. The divider is provided with longitudinallly spaced slots in which the rotor skirt is engaged whereby the divider is reciprocated as the sloping portions of the skirt pass through the slots.
