Abstract: The instant invention provides an improved vane for a vane pump which incorporates an extended undervane suction port. The vane has a restricted passage which connects the inner and outer ends of the vane and an unrestricted passage which connects the outer end of the vane and the suction side of the vane when the leading edge of the vane is exposed to the pressure port and the inner end of the vane is connected to the suction port.
Abstract: A rotary internal combustion engine with four vanes carried by a rotor engaging an internal oval housing surface to define four chambers that orbit the rotor axis. Two of the chambers, diametrically opposed, are operated as working chambers on a four-phase internal combustion engine basis in phase with each other. Supercharging is continued through an early part of the volume expansion and firing phase, whereby the rate of expansion per degree of rotation is substantial at the time firing is initiated. The other two chambers are operated as air pumping chambers to supercharge the working chambers via an air pressure accumulator. A lubricating liquid within the chamber is introduced into the pumping chambers for engine lubrication with excess being returned to the accumulator. The pressure of the liquid is applied hydraulically against the vanes to urge each radially outward with equal force.
Abstract: A rotary internal combustion engine having an ellipsoidal wall member which forms an ellipsoidal internal chamber. A drive shaft is rotatably mounted in the housing and extends transversely through the ellipsoidal chamber. A substantially cylindrical rotor is secured to the drive shaft within the chamber and has a plurality of circumferentially equidistantly spaced vane members radially slidably disposed within the rotor. A source of fluid pressure communicates with the radially inner end of the vane members to urge the vane members radially outwardly so that the vane members contact selected circumferential sections of the wall portion. A fuel supply means including a rotary compressor supplies a fuel and air mixture to the rotor which thereafter further compresses the fuel between the rotor, the wall portion, and adjacent vane members. The fuel air mixture is ignited by appropriate ignition means to thereby rotatably drive the drive shaft.
Abstract: A rotary compressor comprises a cylinder in which a rotor is eccentrically disposed. A plurality of generally rectangular, radially extending vanes are slidably disposed in slots in the rotor and sealingly engage the inner wall of the cylinder. Rotation of the rotor and vanes causes compression of refrigerant gas or the like trapped between adjacent vanes and discharge of the gas from the compressor. The radially outer edges of the vanes which engage the cylinder wall are curved, and the leading and trailing surfaces near the radially outer edges of the vanes are cut away to prevent sticking of the vanes in the slots due to deformation of the edges of the vanes after an extended period of use.
Abstract: A vane pump having a rotor with a plurality of vanes movably carried in slots in the rotor and having their positions controlled by a cam ring surrounding the rotor and with port means for supplying fluid to the spaces between the vanes and withdrawing fluid under pressure from said spaces with additional port means coacting with a selected number of a plurality of passages in the rotor and associated one with each of the spaces between successive vanes whereby the spaces between vanes are filled in the conventional manner together with the additional filling action through the passages in the rotor.
Abstract: A rotary positive fluid displacement machine wherein the radially reciprocable sealing vanes are hydraulically coupled to each other at their innermost ends for preventing the occurrence of compression opposition to radial retraction of the vanes and for urging radial outward movement of the vanes.
Abstract: A vane-pump or motor which includes a rotor equipped with vanes slidable within at least approximately radial slots and with an endless cam surface which surrounds the rotor and together with the same forms a sickle-shaped working space; the cam surface is so shaped that it includes a radially outwardly directed inclination with respect to a circular cam concentric to the center of rotation of the rotor which forms the suction area and in other circumferential areas, it includes a radially inwardly directed inclination, forming the discharge area; two base plates are provided which axially sealingly enclose the rotor together with the vanes and the cam ring and which axially delimit the working space or spaces; internal channels connect the suction or inlet area of the working space with the feed line and the discharge area of the working space with the discharge channel; an unobstructed working medium supply is also provided out of the channel subjected to the higher pressure level which leads to the slot bo
Abstract: A rotary internal combustion engine comprising a cylindrical housing comprised of an annular intermediate member and a pair of end plates, one on each side of the annular member, and defining an enclosed, generally cylindrical, rotor chamber. A shaft is journaled in the end plates and extends through the chamber. A rotor is fixed to the shaft for rotation therewith in the rotor chamber. The rotor chamber is concentric with the housing, while the rotor and shaft are concentric and eccentrically disposed relative to the chamber and housing. Pivoted vane elements are mounted on the periphery of the rotor and are biased into engagement with the annular wall of the rotor chamber and sequentially form intake, compression, combustion and exhaust chambers between the rotor and the annular wall. The vanes include resilient elements having bent-back portions which engage the annular wall to provide seals between the sequentially formed chambers.
