  • Patent number: 6227828
Abstract: A gear pump is used in an electrically-operated sealed compressor. The compressor includes a compression mechanism, an electric motor for driving the compression mechanism, and a crankshaft for transmitting the rotational force of the electric motor to the compression mechanism. The gear pump includes a pair of gears being in mesh with each other, one of which is connected to one end of the crankshaft, and a pump casing accommodating only the pair of gears. The pump casing together with the gear pair is disposed on one side of a cover plate, while other elements constituting the gear pump are disposed on the other side of the cover plate. By this construction, the distance between the gear pair and an auxiliary bearing to which the gear pump is secured can be reduced and, hence, an undesirable whirling of one end portion of the crankshaft can also be reduced.

  • Patent number: 4164384
Abstract: An improved design of a rotary vane-type vacuum pump which prevents the oil used to lubricate the moving parts of the pump from entering the intake line of a connected vacuum chamber. The improvement comprises forming the inlet port in the front face of the cover plate which seals the end of the rotor casing. Filters are positioned in the intake port to catch any oil flowing along the inner wall of the intake port and to condense any oil foam entering therein. In order to facilitate the condensing of the oil foam, the inlet port is divided into two connected chambers, the lower of said chambers being of sufficient capacity to collect said oil foam flowing from the pump during its operation. A check valve is also positioned in the inlet port ahead of said filters in order to prevent the vacuum pressure in the vacuum chamber and intake line from dissipating through the pump and oil mist being drawn into the intake port when the pump is stopped.

The ring, having by-pass port means, may be advanced in the direction of rotation of the rotor, with the port means operative to delay the time that the chamber goes under compression. By varying the induction cut-off point of the ring by-pass port means, the compressor chamber undergoing pre-compression returns gas via a suction transfer passage in the housing to the compressor suction cavity. The compressor rotor is mounted on a unique overhanging stub shaft arrangement to provide a simplified single journal bearing location for the rotor.
