Patent number: 7469496Abstract: Apparatus and methods to improve the functioning of a firearm includes a simplistic, condensed extractor mechanism that is easy to manufacture. Two symmetrical extractors mounted on the sides of a sliding breech block rotate around a pivot point and navigate forward to connect to the rim of a cartridge in the barrel of a firearm. Spring arrangements force the extractors upward and forward in an extraction/ejection cycle that begins with the extractor arms grabbing the rear end of a cartridge, moving rearward with the cartridge or spent case on a horizontal plane relative to the rifle barrel. The extracted case is rotated upward at an angle, then moved forward and fed into an ejection chute just above the barrel. Concurrently, another round is fed into the chamber of the barrel and the extractor arms cam down thereby engaging the rim of a new cartridge; thus completing the cycle.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 2006Date of Patent: December 30, 2008Assignee: Kel-Tec CNC Industries, Inc.Inventor: George L. Patent number: 5109621Abstract: The reliability of a cartridge ejection device can be improved by the interposition of a readily deactivatable control flap, arranged on the outside of a monobloc unit, between a control bolt and a cartridge ejector of a break-open gun-housing of at least one barrel. The arrangement has the advantage wherein when no shot has been fired, the ejector will move into the extended position gradually during tilting of the barrel. When a shot has been fired, the ejector will remained tensioned until the barrel has been entirely tilted. Another advantageous feature is obtained by constructing the cartridge ejector of two parts coupled by way of a spring, namely a cartridge extractor and an extractor element, because thereby stress peaks can be further reduced and the cartridge extractor can already be entirely in the retracted position even before the barrel is completely closed.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 1991Date of Patent: May 5, 1992Assignee: Dynamit Nobel AktiengesellschaftInventor: Horst Blaser

Shotgun shell ejector/extractor means for skeet gun carrier barrel having smaller gauge tube therein
Patent number: 5018293Abstract: A detachable large-bore regular barrel of a shotgun is replaced by a light-weight, thin-walled, carrier barrel having a bore in which a smaller-bore tube and an adapter are mounted. This enables the shotgun to fire a smaller-gauge shotgun shell without changing the weight and balance of the gun, since the combined weight of the carrier barrel, tube and adapter matches that of the regular barrel and those parts are designed to provide the same balance. The carrier barrel is provided with the same kind of shell ejector/extractor as the regular barrel. The adapter comprises a tubular member which defines a firing chamber for the smaller-gauge shotgun shell and is disposed in the breech end of the carrier barrel bore, being threadedly connected to the tube therein. The tubular member of the adapter prevents inadvertent insertion of a larger gauge shotgun shell into the carrier barrel and thus provides a safety feature.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 1989Date of Patent: May 28, 1991Assignee: Kolars ArmsInventor: Donald R. A plastic, resilient, low-friction, heat-resistant stabilizing insert fixed to the fore-end wood engages the barrel to facilitate fitting the barrel in non-contacting relationship in a groove in the fore-end wood handgrip. An extractor/ejector mechanism on the barrel and on the fore-end iron operates when the gun is opened to partially extend an unfired shell or to fully eject an empty shell casing. The fire control mechanism is cocked by opening the gun after the action has been unlocked.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 1989Date of Patent: October 23, 1990Assignee: U. S. Patent number: 4646458Abstract: A double barrel derringer has an extractor mechanism which includes a T-shaped extractor element supported in a T-shaped slot which opens laterally outwardly through one side of the barrel and through the breech end thereof and communicates with the cartridge chambers. The extractor engages rimless cartridges disposed with the cartridge chambers within annular extraction grooves formed in the cartridges. A locking strap pivotally supported on the barrel locks the barrel in a closed position. Pivotal movement of the strap to a releasing position allows the barrel to be tilted from its closed position to a loading/unloading position. Further pivotal movement of the locking strap operates the extractor to simultaneouslly partially extract both cartridges from the cartridge chambers. The extractor is arranged for general lateral movement relative to the barrel to release the partially extracted cartridges which may then be dumped or manually removed from the cartridge chambers.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 1985Date of Patent: March 3, 1987Assignee: The Bellmore-Johnson Tool CompanyInventor: Frederick F. Patent number: 4646459Abstract: A firearm with a barrel tiltable about a breechblock includes an ejector for throwing out a cartridge or cartridge case. The ejector is prestressed by a spring so as to be movable in discharge direction and cooperates with a locking pin such that in a first stage the movement of the ejector during initial tilting of the barrel is braked and is brought to a standstill while upon further tilting of the barrel, the ejector is accelerated in a second stage to expel the cartridge.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 1985Date of Patent: March 3, 1987Assignee: H. Patent number: 4516345Abstract: Ejector device for a firearm, the action of which is opened by tilting about a hinge interconnecting the barrel and the receiver. A spring-urged cartridge ejector (19) is latched in cocked position by an ejector latch plunger (35) which is displaceable by the mechanical pressure exerted by the outer side of a fired cartridge to move from a non-latching inner position to an outer position latching the cartridge ejector (19). From the outer position, the plunger is moved back to the inner position by camming interaction of the outer plunger end (35b) and the receiver sidewall (15) upon tilting the firearm to fully open or substantially fully open the position of the action.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 1983Date of Patent: May 14, 1985Assignee: Flodman Guns KBInventor: Rune Flodman

Patent number: 3964198Abstract: An extractor/ejector system is described for automatically extracting a cartridge from the breech of a firearm or automatically ejecting the cartridge when the cartridge has been fired. A gas port is provided in the barrel of the arm to direct gases from the barrel against a piston: a piston rod connected to the piston contacts a sear and is forced into a latched position with an extractor/ejector spring in compressed condition. When the action of the firearm is broken, a lug is provided for contacting an extractor having a camming surface contacting the sear. The motion of the extractor caused by the lug forces the sear out of engagement, permitting the ejector spring to rapidly expend and effectively eject the fired cartridge.Type: GrantFiled: September 5, 1974Date of Patent: June 22, 1976Assignee: The Innovation Resources CorporationInventor: Richard G.
