Patent number: 9810506Abstract: A revolver has a detent mechanism providing positive mechanical engagement between the cylinder yoke and the frame. A housing mounted on the frame has a spring biased plunger that transversely engages a pin. The pin projects from the housing and engages a recess on the yoke when the revolver cylinder is closed. The pin is biased into engagement with the recess by the plunger to maintain the revolver closed and the chambers of the cylinder in precise alignment with the barrel during firing. Manual force applied to the cylinder can overcome the biasing force and permit the revolver to be opened and closed.Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 2016Date of Patent: November 7, 2017Assignee: Smith & Wesson Corp.Inventor: Brett Curry

Publication number: 20140331536Abstract: A revolver has a spring biased rod that extends from the cylinder, the rod having a tip that engages a portion of the frame to retain the cylinder within the aperture of the frame during firing. The rod is movable out of engagement with the frame portion to release the cylinder and allow it to pivot on a yoke for ejection of spent shells and reloading. A pin is mounted in the yoke so as to engage a recess in the frame when the cylinder is within the aperture of the frame. The pin retains the cylinder within the aperture and is spring loaded and movable out of engagement with the recess to permit the cylinder to pivot on the yoke for ejection of spent shells and reloading.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 24, 2014Publication date: November 13, 2014Inventor: Brett Curry

Patent number: 4934081Abstract: A retainer for a revolver yoke stud includes a screw portion with spring and pin detent carried thereby in a unitary assembly. The yoke stud includes an angular groove with a chamfered surface adapted to be engaged by the tapered end of the pin. The frame of the revolver is provided with a threaded bore and a hole in its plate aligned with the chamfer of the stud when the yoke is disposed in operative position in the revolver. The screw serves the dual function of a fastener for the side plate and as the base or mounting member for the spring detent assembly. The screw and pin include oppositely opening tubular recesses and the pin is adapted for axial movment with respect to the screw member. The outer ends of the spring are enlarged to be captured and retained in the opposed tubular recessed of the screw and pin, thereby forming a unitary assembly.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 1989Date of Patent: June 19, 1990Assignee: Smith & Wesson Corp.Inventor: Joseph S. Patent number: 4908969Abstract: The invention relates to a retaining device for retaining the crane of a revolver, said device being intended to provide longitudinal locking between the crane and the revolver crane while still allowing said crane to be released for dismantling purposes. According to the invention, a stopper (42) is slidably mounted inside the crane (3), said stopper having an end (44) projecting downwardly from the crane (3) in order to engage in an associated groove (47) provided in the frame (2) of the revolver. The stopper (42) is laterally accessible in part via an oblong slot (18) in the crane (3), thereby enabling said crane to be released by means of an elongate tool which retracts the end (44) of the sliding stopper (42). The invention is applicable to revolvers.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 1989Date of Patent: March 20, 1990Inventors: Alain Lechelle, Thierry Guidat, Serge Bruckert

Patent number: 4897950Abstract: A locking device is provided for holding the crane (3) in its closed position by means of a pushbutton (14) and a sliding latch (15) mounted in the crane (3). The pushbutton (14) is laterally accessible from the side of the gun opposite to the side from which the cylinder (4) is swung out, and the pushbutton co-operates directly with the sliding latch (15) in order to retract its end that is normally received in an associated notch provided in the frame (2) of the revolver. The pushbutton device (14) thus makes it possible to unlock the crane (3) using the same hand as is used to push the cylinder (4) towards its open position, and this is highly advantageous on ergonomic grounds. The invention is applicable to revolver manufacture.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 1989Date of Patent: February 6, 1990Assignee: Matra Manurhin DefenseInventors: Alain Lechelle, Thierry Guidat, Serge Bruckert

Patent number: 4720930Abstract: Modifications are provided in the structure of firearms such as breech-loading revolver handguns. Traditionally, these firearms are constructed with mating surfaces in face to face contact, which surfaces must be separated for loading. Where foreign particles are trapped between the flat mating surfaces on closing, jamming results. In one aspect of the invention, these flat mating surfaces are provided with cavities, so that any such foreign matter will fall into the cavities and not prevent the closing of the firearm mechanism after loading. In another aspect of the invention, a series of small vee-type notches, discernible by touch, are formed around the rear edge of a rotary magazine of cartridge cylinder, in a descending sequence in direction opposite to the operative direction of rotation of the rotary magazine when in battery.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 1985Date of Patent: January 26, 1988Inventor: Paris H. Patent number: 4641407Abstract: A split die (12) has a removable split die insert (40) to make it adaptable for receiving different types of ferrules. A ferrule (72) and tube (70) to be attached thereto are received into a cavity (42) in insert (40). Tube (70) indexes on a radial shoulder (76) in ferrule (72). A drawbolt (20) with an elastomeric expander (38) thereon is positioned inside tube (70) with its shaft (22) extending outwardly and through an anvil insert (52, 62). The outer end of the expander (38) is prevented from extruding along drawbolt (20) by a split ring (36). The inner end of expander (38) is contained by portions of the anvil insert (52, 62). In one embodiment, shaft (22) extends through a machined bearing surface (56) in insert (52). A boss (54) on insert (52) extends into ferrule (72) and abuts the inner end of expander (38) to contain expander (38).Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 1985Date of Patent: February 10, 1987Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Gerald G.
