Patent number: 9671186Abstract: A trigger mechanism that gives a shooter a durable, adjustable, soft and gentle pull. In this design, the sear block remains, but the trigger mechanism is replaced with a new, softer action mechanism. This mechanism uses a tripper that attaches to a trip. The trip is a formed body that has a lower frame and a top bearing that sits against the bottom of the seer. When the trigger is pulled, it rotates the tripper forward, which causes the trip to rotate backwards. The backward movement of the trip causes the top bearing to roll off the bottom of the seer, causing the gun to fire. The rotation of the trip is smooth compared to the snapping action of the seer in the prior art designs. This smooth movement does not jar the action, making for a better shot.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 2016Date of Patent: June 6, 2017Inventor: Roy Hoekema

Patent number: 9631886Abstract: A trigger assembly has a sear with a stop surface engageable with a reciprocating component for holding the reciprocating component in a cocked configuration. A trigger is movable into and out of engagement with the sear to hold and release the reciprocating component. A drop pendulum has a trigger cam engageable with the trigger. A spring acts between the trigger and the drop pendulum to bias the trigger cam into engagement with the trigger. The drop pendulum also has a head cam follower engageable with the reciprocating component. Motion of the reciprocating component acting through the head cam follower and the trigger cam forces the trigger to return to a configuration of engagement between the trigger and the sear. Use of the drop pendulum improves the stability of trigger mechanisms and effectively inhibits accidental discharge of firearms when subjected to inertial forces which occur when the firearm is dropped.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2015Date of Patent: April 25, 2017Assignee: Smith & Wesson Corp.Inventor: David S. Patent number: 9618284Abstract: An externally-operated weapon has a direct current servo motor that provides motive force to drive the weapon operating group at an average rate of fire. Within a single cycle, the weapon operating group is driven at rates greater than and less than the average rate of fire, while the overall rate for a single cycle is maintained at the average rate of fire. Some benefits of servo motor control include reduced power consumption, increased bolt dwell time, expansion of the weapon's battlefield role from one to many roles, and increased accuracy and shot-to-shot precision while firing from an open bolt position.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 2015Date of Patent: April 11, 2017Assignee: The United States of America as Represented by the Secretary of the ArmyInventors: Brian Hoffman, Alexander Smith, Hansen Lukman

Patent number: 9541342Abstract: A threaded trigger travel adjustment insert to be located in the existing grip screw hole of a lower receiver commonly associated with a rifle or a pistol to connect the hand grip to the receiver. The trigger travel adjustment insert has a trigger contact tip at one end thereof for receipt within the fire control cavity of the lower receiver at which to contact the trigger tang of the weapon. Rotating the threaded trigger travel adjustment insert through the grip screw hole causes the trigger contact tip of the insert to elevate the trigger tang resulting in a corresponding reduction in the overlap between the trigger sear and the hammer sear notch prior to the trigger being pulled. Accordingly, the distance traveled by the trigger through the fire control cavity after the trigger is pulled and released is advantageously shortened to improve trigger predictability and reliably, thereby facilitating improved accuracy.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2015Date of Patent: January 10, 2017Inventor: Charles D. Patent number: 9482479Abstract: A charging handle for a firearm having a receiver has an elongated rod running from a front end to a rear end at which a crossbar portion is connected to the rod. The crossbar portion is laterally situated to each side of the elongated rod and features redirection channels on both the top and bottom surfaces and is sized, shaped, and adapted to be gripped by a shooter using the firearm. The charging handle has flexible tabs on either side of the elongated rod for securement of the charging handle within groove on the firearm receiver. Rearward force by a user on either the left, right, or both sides of the crossbar portion user disengages the tabs from the grooves and releases the charging handle thereby allowing the charging handle to freely move along the firearm receiver.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 2015Date of Patent: November 1, 2016Inventor: Yi Huei Jen
