Publication number: 20140059910Abstract: A bolt assembly for a firearm such as an auto-loading or pump action shotgun includes a bolt body, bolt carrier and a bolt head. The bolt head is received within the bolt body and is rotatable within the bolt body to lock the bolt assembly into battery prior to firing the weapon, but does not extend from the bolt body during such rotation. The bolt carrier translates axially relative to the bolt body so as to cause rotation of the bolt head. The extractor for the firearm can be pivotally attached to the bolt body, while the ejector further can be integrated into the bolt assembly for engaging and ejecting a shell or cartridge after firing.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 14, 2013Publication date: March 6, 2014Applicant: RA BRANDS, L.L.C.Inventor: RA BRANDS, L.L.C.

Patent number: 6234058Abstract: Semiautomatic pistol which is small enough to be carried in a pocket or otherwise concealed on the body of a person, and caseless ammunition for use in the pistol. The pistol has a grip adapted to be held in the hand of a shooter, a barrel extending in a forward direction from the grip, a closed chamber at the rear of the barrel, means for firing a caseless cartridge in the chamber with the entire cartridge being discharged through the barrel, and means responsive to the firing of the cartridge for opening the chamber and loading another cartridge into the chamber. The caseless cartridge consists of a hollow projectile filled with gunpowder, and a primer for igniting the powder. The primer is mounted directly to the projectile, and there is no casing or other material to ejected from the chamber before another round is loaded.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 1997Date of Patent: May 22, 2001Inventor: Ralph Gordon Morgado

Patent number: 5939657Abstract: Semiautomatic pistol and ammunition in which the pistol has a grip adapted to be held in the hand of a shooter, a barrel extending in a forward direction from the grip, a magazine of cartridges positioned above the barrel, and an action located within the grip for firing cartridges through the barrel. Cartridges are transferred from the magazine down to the action, and spent cartridge cases are ejected down through the lower portion of the grip. The barrel intersects the grip below the top of the grip at an angle such that the barrel will be aligned axially with the forearm of the shooter when the grip is held in the hand with the top of the shooter's wrist level with the top of the forearm. The action includes a breech which is rotatable between rest and cocking positions, a chamber which rotates with the breech between battery and loading positions, a firing pin carried by the breech, and a rotatively mounted hammer which is moved to a cocked position by rotation of the breech.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 1997Date of Patent: August 17, 1999Inventor: Ralph Gordon Morgado

Patent number: 4825743Abstract: An improved magazine and feed mechanism is disclosed for firearms which provides a transfer disc for receiving cartridges laterally with respect to the barrel of the firearm such as to be rotatable to orient the cartridge longitudinally with respect to the barrel. The transfer disc is positioned above the bolt and the bolt includes abutting means for contacting a cartridge defined within the slot in the transfer disc and urging same downwardly into the barrel. Continuous positive engagement of rotation of the transfer disc resulting from movement of the bolt is achieved. A cartridge injector head is included having a flat spring biasing device which cooperates with a cartridge injector to remove cartridges from the magazine for placement into the slot of the transfer disc.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 1988Date of Patent: May 2, 1989Assignee: Walter BalsavageInventors: Walter Balsavage, Floyd O. Patent number: 4348941Abstract: A shoulder arm, especially a rifle, having a barrel, a recess, which is perpendicular to the axis of the barrel, formed in a member which is fixedly connected with the barrel, and a roller-shaped breech member coaxially arranged in the recess and capable of being swivelled about its longitudinal axis for loading. The breech member contains a firing chamber which, in the firing position of the breech member, is in alignment with the barrel and is closed to the rear. The shoulder arm also has an arrangement for swivelling the breech member out of the firing position and into a loading position, in which the firing chamber is accessible for the introduction of a cartridge. The recess is designed in the form of a cylindrical hole, whose wall serves to mount the roller-shaped breech member and to directly close the firing chamber when it is located in the firing position.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 1981Date of Patent: September 14, 1982Assignee: Heckler & Koch GmbHInventors: Dieter Ketterer, Horst Jakubaschk, Emil Rommel

Patent number: 4152857Abstract: The invention relates to a loading arrangement for handfire-arms, in particular automatic rifles for firing caseless ammunition, comprising a magazine and a cartridge clip adapted to it. The cartridge clip retains the cartridges by two resilient tongues and is constructed as an insert for a container. Several containers are detachable interconnected. The magazine comprises channels for the tongues and is provided with a one-way barrier at the front face, which is open over at least approximately the full cross-section. The one-way barrier allows the insertion of a cartridge clip having a plurality of cartridges into the magazine, tensioned against the follower spring. The one-way barrier further permits the removal of the clip while retaining the cartridges in the magazine. The cartridges are removed from the magazine perpendicular to the direction of insertion. The one-way barrier is constructed as a U-shaped stop spring.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 1977Date of Patent: May 8, 1979Assignee: Heckler & Koch GmbHInventor: Dieter Ketterer

Patent number: 4004363Abstract: A rotatable cartridge chamber for a firearm type weapon in which the chamber is rotatable in the weapon at the rear end of the barrel and has cartridge chambers therein. The chamber receives cartridges from a magazine parallel to and adjacent the barrel in one rotated position and in another rotated position presents the cartridges projectile end foremost to the rear end of the barrel.Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 1975Date of Patent: January 25, 1977Assignee: DIEHLInventors: Hans Sackenreuter, Anton Politzer
