Method and system for conducting vapor phase decontamination of sealable entities and their contents
Patent number: 8236240Abstract: The invention provides a method and system for conducting a continuous operation, flowing vapor phase decontamination in either an open loop or a closed loop. Using the method, a multi-component liquid decontaminant is vaporized and delivered into, through and out of a sealable enclosure by means of a carrier gas that is flowing into, through and out of said sealable enclosure. After leaving the enclosure, the vapor is captured in a cold-water bath and decomposed. The invention humidifies the carrier gas by passing it through a temperature controlled water bath to warm, or to cool, the carrier gas as necessary in order to bring the carrier gas to the desired temperature and humidity before it is combined with the vaporized sterilant and allowed to flow into the sealable enclosure. The concentration of the vapor sterilant and the percent saturation of the vapor sterilant are simultaneously controlled by controlling the rate at which the carrier gas flows and the rate at which the liquid sterilant is vaporized.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 2007Date of Patent: August 7, 2012Inventors: James Arthur Childers, Robert Warren Childers -

Patent number: 7964137Abstract: A control system of a surgery autoclave is described, which is capable of establishing a sterilization cycle which includes at least a first evacuation step of a sterilization chamber and of heating of a load and a final drying step. The autoclave includes a device capable of detecting a parameter proportional to the energy used up in a step of the cycle preceding the drying step and the control system establishes at least a reduction of the drying step upon determining that, the parameter of used up energy lies below a preset threshold.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 2007Date of Patent: June 21, 2011Assignee: W & H Sterilization S.r.l.Inventors: Fabio Ghezzi, Daniele Ongaro, Marco Parolini, Christian Stempf, Walter Crotti

Patent number: 7951342Abstract: A sterilizer (20) is provided having a steam filled sterilizer chamber (24) for sterilizer articles placed within the chamber (24). An electronic air valve (186) is provided to control the venting rate of the steam is vented back to a water reservoir (140) after the articles have been sterilized. The electronic air valve (186) also vents the chamber (24) in a controlled manner during the heat up portion of the sterilization cycle to obtain an optimum saturated steam environment with the chamber (24) for the sterilizing process. The sterilizer (20) has pre-programmed and programmable sterilization cycles. And the drying times of each of these cycles is programmable by a user. The programmable sterilization cycles also provide a programmable vent rate which may be selected by the user to minimize damage to the sterilized articles. A steam condensing coil (200) is associated with the water reservoir (140) to minimize pressure build up within the water reservoir (140).Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 2003Date of Patent: May 31, 2011Assignee: Midmark CorporationInventors: Gary W. Patent number: 7919059Abstract: A decontamination system for decontaminating a region with a vaporized decontaminant, such as vaporized hydrogen peroxide. The concentration of the vaporized decontaminant within the region is modified in response to operating conditions. The decontamination system adjusts the concentration of the vaporized decontaminant in response to the monitored saturation concentration of the decontaminant, thereby preventing condensation of the vaporized decontaminant during a decontamination cycle. The decontamination system also adjusts the concentration of the vaporized decontaminant in order to minimize the time required to complete a successful decontamination operation.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 2007Date of Patent: April 5, 2011Assignee: American Sterilizer CompanyInventor: Aaron L. Patent number: 7850904Abstract: An object of the present invention is to continuously feed an object to be treated to a high-pressure reactor which treats the object to be treated containing 10 mass % or more of water under high pressure, while preventing backflow of a high-pressure atmosphere from the high-pressure reactor. This is embodied by making a configuration such that the object to be treated is fed to the high-pressure reactor connected to a discharge port of a screw feeder which is provided with a feed unit for the object to be treated and the discharge port on one end side and the other end side respectively and forms a high-pressure atmosphere pressurized to, for example, 2 MPa or higher, while air-tightness between the high-pressure atmosphere and the one end side of the screw feeder is maintained by a sealing action of an accumulation compressed on the other end side of the screw feeder.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 2004Date of Patent: December 14, 2010Assignee: The Japan Steel Works, Ltd.Inventors: Katsuaki Osato, Muneo Omura, Yoshinori Suto, Koji Tamura, Masao Tsurui, Takeshi Yamaguchi, Jin Ogawa, Yoshihiko Iwamoto, Jun Kakizaki
