Patent number: 5725836Abstract: A method for providing aerogels, and aerogels produced according to the method, is described. As one aspect, antiperspirant compounds that are in aerogel form, and antiperspirant and deodorant compositions including such salts, are described. The method involves contacting a solution containing material to be processed with a species selected to precipitate the material and selected so as to be miscible with the solvent system of the solution. After the material is precipitated, the material may be washed with the precipitating species until it is substantially free of solvent system. Then, the precipitating species containing the material precipitate is taken above its critical point, and the supercritical fluid is exhausted above its critical temperature. Alternately, a separate isolating species is introduced to displace the precipitating species, or the precipitating species/solvent system mixture. The isolating species then is taken above its critical point, and exhausted above its critical temperature.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 1995Date of Patent: March 10, 1998Assignees: CF Technologies, Inc., The Gillette CompanyInventors: Stephane Fabrice Rouanet, William Edward McGovern, Wanging Cao, John M. Patent number: 5723135Abstract: The present invention features a method of making a gel cosmetic stick. The method comprises first mixing a particulate dibenzylidene alditol with a liquid vehicle which contains an antiperspirant salt dissolved therein to form a uniform dispersion. The dibenzylidene alditol is mixed with the liquid vehicle at a temperature sufficiently low, preferably below 50.degree. C., so that substantially none of the dibenzylidene alditol dissolves in the liquid vehicle. This dispersion may comprise a commercial size quantity, typically greater than 200 kg. A portion of this dispersion, typically a relatively small portion, is then heated to a temperature sufficient to dissolve the dibenzylidene alditol therein, then cooled to form a gel. This heating and cooling is conducted sufficiently rapidly so as to minimize degradation of the dibenzylidene alditol. Preferably the heating and cooling is conducted such that said portion is subjected to a temperature greater than 90.degree. Patent number: 5603925Abstract: Disclosed is a stick or gel composition, which can be clear or translucent, for combatting body malodor (e.g., an antiperspirant composition). The composition contains an antiperspirant active material (e.g., an antiperspirant active metal salt, such as aluminum chlorohydrate) and a polyamide gelling agent, and also contains a solvent system for the antiperspirant active material and polyamide, which dissolves the gelling agent and from which the gelling agent can be gelled. The solvent system is glycol-free, and includes a non-ionic surfactant (e.g., laureth-4) and a polar solvent (including water)). Use of the glycol-free solvent system achieves a gelled composition that has reduced levels of tack (is substantially tack-free) and has cosmetically acceptable properties. The composition can further include an opaque wax (e.g.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 1995Date of Patent: February 18, 1997Assignee: The Mennen CompanyInventors: Lloyd Ross, Paul J. Fessock
