Abstract: A method of manufacturing a multi-layer hollow article which consists of extruding a multi-layer parison having at least a chief resin layer, a sub resin (barrier) layer, and an adhesive resin layer located between the chief resin layer and the sub resin layer. The adhesive resin layer is made of the same essential material as the chief resin material and of the same quality. The sub resin layer is cut off by the use of a raised extrusion pressure of the adhesive resin when the multi-layer parison has been extruded a predetermined length. The parison is received in a mold so that the cut off sub resin (barrier) layer lies within the mold below pinch offs. Flash is produced as a result of the molding. The flash consists of the chief resin material or the chief resin material and the adhesive resin material. The flash is recycled as part of the chief resin material. The mandrel which holds the cylindrical body, to which the head is molded, is movable from an inboard position to an outboard position so that operations can be performed relative to it. The molding operation is performed at the inboard position. The loading, extruding, capping and ejection operations are performed at the outboard position.

Abstract: An apparatus for manufacturing food products, such as knoedels, picnic eggs, knish etc., in which core materials are wrapped with crust materials. The apparatus comprises an outside cylindrical assembly and an inside cylindrical assembly, each assembly having a substantially horizontal axis, further comprises an annular passageway for crust materials which is formed between the opposite surfaces of cylindrical body portions of the two assemblies. Each assembly comprises an outer tube and inner tube which are arranged so that the former abuts the latter and they can periodically rotate in the opposite directions about their common axis. The outer and inner tubes of said outside assembly are provided at the respective body portions thereof with inlet and outlet apertures for the crust material. The outer and inner tubes of said inside assembly are provided at the respective body portions thereof with outlet apertures for the crust material.

  • Patent number: 4469475
Abstract: An extrusion head has at least two preferably co-axial tubes, with an outer tube enclosing at least one inner tube. The end of the inner tube terminates in a flexible sleeve or tube which is supported by a plurality of hinged fingers distributed uniformly around the periphery of the inner tube. Dough is driven under pressure through the outer tube and filling is driven under pressure through the inner tube. When an extrusion valve is closed at the end of the outer tube, the back pressure of the dough closes and folds the flexible sleeve, against the supporting fingers which it surrounds, thereby closing the filling tube and forming a coating of dough for the outer end of the next food product. When the extrusion valve next opens, the coating of dough and the filling are pushed out to extrude and form the outer end of the next encrusted food product.

  • Patent number: 4376625
Abstract: An injection-molding apparatus has a nozzle extending along an axis and formed with an axially forwardly opening outlet, an annular port fixed immediately axially behind or upstream of the outlet, and a central axially forwardly opening port axially fixed behind the annular outlet. Respective plastifiers for feeding respective plastified synthetic resins, normally thermoplastics, are connected to the respective ports. An axially displaceable valve body in the nozzle is displaceable from a fully forward position blocking both of the ports, through a partially back position blocking only the central port, to a fully back position clear of both of the ports. Thus in the fully forward position no resin can enter the nozzle, in the partially back position resin can enter the nozzle only from the annular port, and in the fully back position resins can enter the nozzle through both of the ports.

  • Patent number: 4361530
Abstract: An extruder has a nozzle from which it extrudes a strand formed of a mixture of wood chips and a synthetic-resin binder into a passage formed by a plurality of transversely and longitudinally movable walls. Opposite walls are urged transversely inwardly by respective hydraulic cylinders to compact and densify the strand as it cures, and other cylinders urge the walls upstream toward the nozzle with a force slightly smaller than the extrusion force. Thus as the extrusion force exceeds the opposite longitudinal biasing force the walls will move downstream with the strand, to return upstream between advance steps of the strand.

Abstract: Apparatuses and methods for simultaneously extruding two lengths of plastic tubing wherein each of said lengths includes alternate axial sections of materials having different characteristics (e.g., a harder material and a softer material). The apparatus includes two extruders which feed plastic extrudate to a dual die head having first and second dies for forming tubular lengths. Valves are operatively associated with each extruder for selectively feeding plastic extrudate from each extruder to either of the dies. The valves are intermittently operated so that during one cycle extrudate from the first extruder is fed to the first die and extrudate from the second extruder is fed to the second die, and during alternate cycles extrudate from the first extruder is fed to the second die and extrudate from the second extruder is fed to the first die. A cooling tank receives the tubular length from the dies for setting the plastic material.
