Control Means Responsive To Product Weight Or Dimension Patents (Class 425/140)
  • Patent number: 5133910
Abstract: The injection molding machine is designed to produce molded pieces in a predetermined shape by moving back and forth a screw inside a cylinder so as to inject a molten molding material in the cylinder into a metal mold. The evaluation of molding stability of this injection molding machine is carried out in the following steps. First, an injection pressure imparted to the molten molding material by the screw at each screw position is detected, every time a molded piece is produced, and the injection pressure so detected is then integrated so as to obtain the work done of the injection molding machine. Following this, a molded piece so produced is weighed. Thus, a correlation between work done and the weights of molded pieces is statistically obtained on the basis of a plurality of corresponding data in relation to work done and the weights of molded pieces so obtained. Molding stability is then evaluated from the correlation so obtained.

  • Patent number: 5128076
Abstract: An open tube apparatus and method for continuously producing a rotating elongate strip of material are disclosed. An extrusion die continuously extrudes flowable material to form an open tube with a central longitudinal cavity and a transport mechanism includes a plurality of drive rollers which engage and pull the tube downline. A driver rotates the extrusion die and transport mechanism. A tube cutter, which is offset at an angle with respect to the downline direction and defines the open end of the tube, cuts the tube into a continuous elongate web of the desired width as the tube moves downline. An air seal seals the tube cavity to prevent air from escaping through the open end of the cavity, and a tube pressurizer controls air pressure in the central longitudinal cavity of the tube to expand the tube laterally outwardly.

Abstract: A constraining structure for an open tube apparatus for continuously producing a rotating elongate strip of material is disclosed. The constraining structure controls expansion of an extruded blown film tube to a desired outer diameter range after the tube is formed. The constraining structure includes a casing positionable around the tube, and an annular sleeve in the casing having a generally cylindrical central passageway adapted to receive the tube to permit movement of the tube along its longitudinal axis in a downline direction. The casing and the sleeve walls define a gas chamber with pressurized gas separate from the passageway. The gas layer along the inner surface of the sleeve is at a sufficiently large pressure to constrain the tube to the desired outer diameter while the tube solidifies and to prevent the tube from contacting the sleeve.

The maximum pre-bursting size of the balloon can be tailored depending upon the needs of the particular balloon within a wide range of possible maximum pre-bursting sizes. The apparatus and methods facilitate fabrication of the balloons which are subjected to longitudinal elongation or axial orientation and biaxial or radial orientation.

Abstract: Apparatus for operating an injecting molding process utilizing an acceptable part and process window for an injection molding machine having a pair of separable mold elements forming a mold cavity with a part-line therebetween, means for opening and closing the mold elements, and means for introducing a moldable material into the mold cavity at a first pressure and for exerting a second pressure on the moldable material as it cures in the cavity. The apparatus includes means for generating an acceptable part and process window for the machine by operating the machine by closing the mold elements, means for introducing a moldable material into the mold cavity, and measuring the separation of the mold elements resulting from the introduction of the moldable material into the mold cavity. At least one operating parameter is incrementally changed over a plurality of molding cycles until unacceptable parts are produced to generate minimum part-line and time values for that machine and process.

Abstract: An apparatus for manufacturing a hollow plastic product is provided. In accordance with one aspect, into a mold half having a tubular groove portion and a projecting groove portion which projects outwardly from the tubular groove section is supplied a parison into the tubular groove portion and a clump of molding material into the projecting groove portion. When blow molding is carried out by introducing a pressurized gas into the parison, the clump becomes integrated with the parison thereby providing a hollow plastic product of unitary structure. In accordance with another aspect of the present invention, a parison extrusion nozzle is provided with at least two passages each of which is connected, preferably through a valve, to a corresponding dispensing unit for dispensing a desired molding material. A control unit is provided as connected to each of the dispensing units to control the supply of molding material so that there is obtained a parison having regions of different molding materials.

Abstract: A method for continuously producing a dough strip of substantially uniform dimensions is disclosed. The method is carried out in an apparatus (2) comprising a hopper (4) having a divider (8) at its bottom, a conveyor (10) with a weighing device (12), a transfer conveyor (13), a thickness defining device (24) mounted on the transfer conveyor (13) and width defining members (26) between the transfer conveyor (13) and the thickness defining device (24). Dough portions supplied from the hopper (4) are weighed and supplied onto the transfer conveyor (13) one after another. By regulating the width and thickness of each dough portion, the length of the dough portion is made proportional to its weight. A new dough portion is supplied onto the transfer conveyor when the conveyor has conveyed the preceding dough portion a distance proportional to the weight thereof.

Abstract: The invention regards a universal machine for making cakes in usual bakeries all the way from a finished dough to baking. The machine extrudes soft or thick dough, makes portions and forms cakes for arranging on baking plates and baking, and extrudes cream and jam and similar materials. The machine is also suitable for making licorice, confectionery and any kind of forming and making portions of viscous, extrudable materials. The machine includes automatic measurement of thickness and control of thickness of the dough-cake by use of a photocell, and the photocell is fitted with runners, scale of measurement and patterns of thickness, so that the thickness of each cake is measured and cut independently. The machine is fitted with automatic measurement of frequency and control of frequency of cakes, relying upon the control of thickness. The machine has many cylinders utilizing the automatic control of thickness.

  • Patent number: 4844846
Abstract: Stringent specifications for an extrudate are maintained by accurate control of tread weight per unit length without regard for dimensional changes of the extrudate. This is achieved simply by adjusting the speed of a single variable-speed conveyor, whether the running-weigh-scale ("RWS") conveyor, or, the take-away conveyor, without adjusting the extruder screw, or operation of the extruder, and without measuring any dimension (width or gauge) of the extrudate; therefore, with no regard either to the cross-sectional area, or surface area, or volume of the tread. The accuracy of control depends chiefly on how accurately one can measure the weight/unit length, and how precisely the speed of the single variable-speed conveyor can be controlled. Exceptional on-spec control in the continuous extrusion of a tread stock is achieved because it was recognized that dimensional changes of the tread stock, independent of its change in weight/unit length, do not adversely effect the specifications of the extruded tread.
