Abstract: A nozzle has a valve pin for controlling flow of molding material through a nozzle melt passage. An actuator has a stationary part and a movable part. The actuator further has an extending rod connected to the movable part thereof and a block connected to the rod, the block being movable with the moveable part of the actuator. A pivoting linkage element is rotatably connected to the block of the actuator and is connected to the valve pin of the nozzle. The pivoting linkage element moves the valve pin in response to movement of the movable part of the actuator. A bracket is connected to the stationary part of the actuator. Two sensors are connected to the bracket for detecting different positions of the block. The sensors may be air proximity sensors.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for controlling a vent gap in a mold for an injection molding machine are provided, and include an active material insert configured to be regulate the degree of opening of the vent gap. The active material insert is configured to be actuated in response to signals from a controller, so as to selectively block the opening of the vent gap during the molding process. Wiring structure is coupled to the active material insert, and is configured to carry the actuation signals. Melt flow sensors may also be provided to aid in regulating the vent gap, and may be connected to the controller in order to provide real-time closed loop control over the operation of the vent gap. Preferably, the methods and apparatus are used as part of a system for controlling the flow of melt within a mold cavity.

Abstract: While a check ring of a screw of an injection molding machine is in open state, an absolute value (|? resin pressure / ? rotation amount |) of a variation of a resin pressure per unit variation of the screw reverse rotation becomes greater than a predetermined reference value. However, after the check ring is closed, |? resin pressure / ? rotation amount | becomes equal to or less than the reference value. From this, detecting if the |? resin pressure / ? rotation amount | during reverse rotation of the screw, it is possible to determine that the check ring is closed or not. As a result, it is possible to obtain a screw reverse rotation amount which is optimal for reliably closing the check ring.

Abstract: An injection control apparatus includes an injection member; a drive section for injection; an injection-speed detection processing section which detects injection speed; an injection-pressure detection processing section which detects injection pressure; and a drive control processing section which drives the drive section for injection on the basis of the injection speed and the injection pressure to thereby perform pressure control before start of charging of a molding material into a cavity, and speed control after the start of charging of the molding material into the cavity. Since the drive section is driven on the basis of the injection speed and the injection pressure such that pressure control is performed before start of charging of a molding material into a cavity, and speed control is performed thereafter, the pressure of the cavity after the molding material has entered the cavity becomes stable and uniform.

Abstract: An actuator for a hot runner has a piston and a valve pin holder threadably connected to the piston. The piston can be translated by fluid pressure and rotated by an electric motor. The valve pin holder is rotationally fixed, and therefore moves along the thread when the piston is rotated. A valve pin connected to the valve pin holder moves in response to fluid pressure and also in response to the electric motor rotating the piston.

  • Patent number: 7195473
Abstract: Thermoplastic polymers, rubbery polymeric components and reinforcing fillers are mixed and heated to a range of 380° F. to 440° F. The resulting mixture is then fed into a BANBURY mixer, with the resulting mixture fed into a diverter feeding two molds. The velocity of the piston of each mold being filled is controlled to thereby control the density of the molded product along its length (BANBURY is a registered trademark of Farrel Corporation). As each mold is filled, it is deposited in a cool water bath (50° F.–60° F.) while the next mold is being filled. The molds are sequentially transferred to an air cooling rack to complete the process. A texture, generally comprising indentations perpendicular to the longitudinal axis on the molded object, provides a frictional surface between the railway crosstie and the ballast beneath the crosstie.
