Abstract: Liquid slag passes from an overflow in a pressure vessel into an underlying collecting vessel where the liquid slag is transformed into solid granular material by quenching in a liquid coolant. A desired coolant level is maintained within the collecting vessel by control valves under a pressure above atmospheric pressure. Two slide valves in the bottom of the collecting vessel are opened to discharge the granular material after accumulating to a predetermined measured level which is below the liquid coolant in the collecting vessel. A discharge vessel, beneath the collecting vessel, receives the discharged granular material. The discharge vessel is filled with a liquid coolant under either atmospheric pressure or under the same elevated pressure as the pressure within the collecting vessel.
Abstract: An injection moulding machine used in conjunction with a closed split mould, has its shot volume controlled by a device which responds to widening of the mould parting line occurring when the mould is completely filled with moulding material as a result of the pressure build up which occurs inside the mould. Contactless sensing of widening of the parting line is described, by means of electromagnetic sensing devices. The shot volume can thus be held at the optimum value at which minimum flash occurs and complete filling of the mould is assured.
Abstract: A concrete product making machine having a product forming mold with a cavity for receiving cementitious material; support surfaces such as pallets on which the formed products are supported; a transfer device by which "green" products or blocks are removed on their pallets from the vicinity of the mold; and a block height gauging device, downstream of the mold, for gauging the height of the products by gauging the distance from the top surfaces of the pallets to the top surfaces of the products.
Abstract: Plastic extruding and roll forming apparatus having a connecting passage at least partially formed by a plate which is swingable between open and closed position to conduct material from an extruder to forming rolls and to provide access and/or to release excess material in the passage. The extrusion and forming rates are controlled by the movement of the plate.
Abstract: An apparatus for the continuous filtration and flow of molten thermoplastic polymer from a melt source to a shaping apparatus. The apparatus is characterized by the employment of a melt reservoir whose level is regulated by a level control means. Melt flow to the shaping apparatus is regulated by the level control means which controls the flow rate from the melt source as a function of the level in the melt reservoir.
