  • Patent number: 7309224
Abstract: A device for the preparation of plastics material for recycling purposes has a container (1) with an upper inlet opening (10) for the material. In the container (1), at least one tool (14) rotates about the vertical container axis. This tool feeds the treated material through an outlet opening (17) which is arranged at the bottom of the container (1) and to which the housing (19) of at least one screw (21, 22) is connected. That side wall (28) of the feed opening (18) at which the tool (14) discharges defines a widening (36) extending continuously towards the screw axis. This widening (36) extends over part of the circumference of the screw turns (30) so that the screw-side edge of this widening (36) forms an uninterrupted shearing edge (39) co-operating with the screw turns (30).

  • Patent number: 7108500
Abstract: Within a process for recycling of PET-material and/or objects of PET, the PET-material to be processed is heated and dried in the course of a pre-treatment step and simultaneously is crystallized at elevated temperature. This pre-treatment step is followed by a main-treatment step under vacuum. In this main-treatment step, the processed material is again dried and crystallized at a temperature that is higher than the temperature of the pre-treatment step. Preferably, also in the main-treatment step no plasticizing of the material takes place; the plasticizing or, respectively, melting of the material takes place only after the main-processing step. An apparatus for performing this process comprises a pre-processing device (3) in which the processed material is dried and simultaneously crystallized at elevated temperature, and, if desired, is also comminuted.

In an embodiment, the ingredients of a confectionery product, such as a bubble gum, are blended together. The ingredients are mixed, cooled and then formed into traditional center pieces. Next, the center pieces are fed into an underwater pelletizer. The underwater pelletizer cuts the extruded confectionery pieces into miniature products. A recirculating supply of water immediately sweeps away the miniature products from the pelletizer, cools the products and transport the products to a centrifugal dryer. The centrifugal dryer separates the miniature products from the circulating water. The separated miniature products are immediately dusted with an anti-agglomerating compound. Finally, the product is coated or otherwise packaged for consumption.

The method includes subdividing elastomeric raw material into small particle form, confining the particles of elastomer under high force, as in a screw extruder or the like and, as the particles remain confined, imparting ultrasonic energy to the mass to effect devulcanization. Energy is fed to the confined particles transversely of the axis along which they are advancing, and energy from a source is reflected off a portion of the apparatus and back into the treatment zone so as to achieve maximum energy utilization. In particular instances, reflection of energy is achieved by providing opposed, powered ultrasonic horns that resonate in phase with each other. In another embodiment, oppositely directed, resonantly tuned horns are used, with less than all such horns being powered and the remainder being passive or unpowered reflecting horns who resonant frequency is tuned to that of the powered horn.

  • Patent number: 5624620
Abstract: The invention is to apparatus and method for a plasticizing batch process used in manufacturing building materials such as sheet goods, roofing shingles, and various sizes of dimensional lumber products. Recycled waste plastics and other not plastic materials are used in a batch process to plasticize the waste materials into a mixture used in molding various products. A intensive mixture mixes and plasticizes the waste materials of a predetermined weight until the plasticized mixture reaches a predetermine temperature. The material is then expelled to a material mover to dispense the plasticized material by weight to molds in which the plasticized material is pressed to form various products.

  • Patent number: 5585124
Abstract: The present invention employs a main shaft cantilevered from a frame. A die holder is disposed around the outside of the shaft, and in the preferred embodiment rotates by the use of adjustable tapered roller bearings around the shaft. Fixed to the die holder is a die, and the die and die holder define a pelletizing chamber. The shaft supports a roller frame with a plurality of rollers within the pelletizing chamber. The resulting construction is a pelletizer shaft support structure that uses only a single set of bearings. In the preferred embodiment, the main shaft is comprised of an inner shaft and an outer shaft. The inner shaft is located coaxially within the outer shaft and supported within the outer shaft by static bushings. The roller frame and rollers are mounted to the inner shaft. The inner shaft and the outer shaft are both fixed to the frame structure.

  • Patent number: 5525278
Abstract: The recycling of used polyurethane foam is made possible by a process in which the starting material is first dried to a moisture content of 2 to 4% and is then filled into a multi-part mold (16, 17, 18) that defines the molded part (32). The parts of the mold (16, 17, 18) are then, with generation of the necessary compression pressure of below 20 N/mm.sup.2, pressed together and locked. These molds (16, 17, 18) that are subject to the compression pressure are heated in a tunnel furnace (20) so that the molding material reaches a temperature of approximately 130.degree. C. After a predefined holding time, the molds (16, 17, 18) can be opened under pressure and the molded parts (32) can be removed. Molded parts (32) with a thickness of 42 mm and of corresponding size have been produced successfully with this process. Instead of the molds (16, 17, 18), it is also possible that a two-part tool is used.

  • Patent number: 5480626
Abstract: A method for the production of spherical granulated materials from powdered solids and the granulated materials produced by it are disclosed. The method is characterized in that the powdered solids are moistened, possibly together with the usual binders, flow agents and plasticizers for the compression of solids, by the addition of a corresponding quantity of liquid and mixing smoothly in a mixer; they are then compressed with a ring collar mill into cylindrical agglomerate and then rounded in a rounding unit with wrinkle washer. The granulated solids thus produced have a very narrow particle size distribution and are distinguished by good flowability and good dispersability, depending on process controls.

  • Patent number: 5407624
Abstract: A processing line forms a desired end product for a plastic extrusion machine by supplying raw plastic material to a shredder. The shredder forms partially-fused, irregularly-shaped chunks of the raw plastic. The use of the shredder eliminates the requirement of extraneous matter separation prior to feeding of the shredder. The output of the shredder is conveyed to a ram feeder after passing material separators, such as a magnet and/or a metal detector or the like. The ram feeder forces the chunks to an extruder which ultimately supplies liquified plastic to a pelletizer to form pellets. The pellets are transferred to a storage vat for reuse.

  • Patent number: 5225137
Abstract: In general, used thermoplastic liquid containers such as oil and solvent bottles are discarded. When recycling oil bottles, the usual practice is to wash the bottles with a solvent to remove oil therefrom. Washing of the bottles results in large quantities of used, oil-containing solvent, which present a disposal problem. A simple solution to the problem of recycling liquid containers with no preliminary washing or cleaning operation includes the steps of tumbling the bottles to promote liquid separation, shredding the bottles into small pieces and draining the liquid therefrom, grinding the pieces of plastic to yield a particulate thermoplastic, and mixing the particulate thermoplastic and any liquid remaining therein with an additive, e.g. an oil absorbent and a filler such as calcium carbonate, glass, mica or talc, and when the liquid is an oil, an absorbent to produce an extrudable mixture which can be used to form new containers.
