    Abstract: A method of manufacturing a molded solid fuel including: a pulverization for pulverizing low-grade coal; a mixing for obtaining a slurry by mixing the pulverized low-grade coal and a solvent oil; a dehydration for obtaining a dehydrated slurry by heating and dehydrating the slurry; a solid-liquid separation for obtaining a cake by separating the solvent oil from the dehydrated slurry; a drying for obtaining powdery modified coal by heating the cake and further separating the solvent oil from the cake; and a molding for pressurizing and molding the powdery modified coal by using a molding machine, without the addition/mixture of a binder. In the molding, a coolant is sprayed onto the surface of the molding machine, and the surface temperature of the molding machine is kept equal to or below 100° C.

    Abstract: A sliced food product such as a cheese product or meat product having a design or figure cut or otherwise formed therein. In accordance with a preferred embodiment, the design or figure is cut entirely or substantially through the slice so that the design or figure may be removed from a surrounding peripheral portion of the slice. A method and apparatus for forming the figure or design are also disclosed. The preferred method and apparatus employ a rotary figure cutter which cuts entirely through the slice to outline a pattern or figure, and which cuts or penetrates partially through the slice to form details of the figure by embossing or indenting design components on the slice. The slice is preferably wrapped in film prior to the figure cutting operation, and the figure cutter performs its function without cutting or tearing the film wrap. The rotary figure cutter preferably comprises a pair of rotary dies between which each slice passes as the design is formed thereon.

    Abstract: An apparatus (10) for forming open ended, cone-shaped snack products includes a rotary cutter (28) having opposed, counterrotating rollers (30) each formed by multiple cutting discs (36) axially spaced on a mandrel (34) by spacers (38). A dough sheet formed by a sheet forming device (12) is conveyed to a slitting device (24) which slits the dough sheet into multiple pairs of dough strips. The dough strips are conveyed on a conveyer (26) towards the rotary cutter (28). The first dough strips of each pair pass over the end of the conveyor (26), and twisted 90° as they pass over sheaves (44, 56, 60) and pass between stationary guides (42) to the first roller (30) while the second dough strips of each pair pass over the end of the conveyor (26), are twisted 90° as they pass over sheaves (46, 58, 62) and pass between the stationary guides (42) to a second roller (30). The pair of dough strips are drawn under tension through the nip of the rollers (30) in a face to face stacked orientation.

The invention also relates to an apparatus for this purpose.

Steam is applied via a pair of steam manifolds adjacent the pasta layers and increases the adhesiveness of the pasta. In another aspect, stresses in the layers of pasta dough are relieved by forming the individual pockets into convex shapes, reducing the stresses in the upper pasta dough layer.

Product flows between the two rollers in the form of dough strips and an air nozzle is disposed between them to provide air flow causing deformation of the product and forming an air pocket. The teeth may be on both rollers and in meshing contact with one another. The teeth also have a V-shape with a rounded radius at the cutting end so that it rolls into the dough product and back out thereof to form a large sealing surface between the two pieces of dough and forming an improved seal so that when the food product is fried the sealed area does not split open from increased pressure inside the hollow food product.

    Abstract: An apparatus for mechanically separating water from coal includes a vibrating hopper, two contra-rotating cylinders, a solid collector, and a fluid collector. The hopper feeds hydrated coal or coal slurry to wells which are arranged along the surface of a first rotating cylinder. A second rotating cylinder has protrusions on its surface which are precisely placed such that when the first and second cylinders are brought in contact and rotated in contra-rotating directions, each of the wells of the first cylinder and a corresponding protrusion of the second cylinder form mating female and male dies. Coal in the female dies is pressed, and the moisture in the coal is squeezed out. The coal remaining in the dies is then delivered to the solid collector via a pusher. The distance between the cylinders may be varied through adjustable cylinder bearings or pillow blocks. Both the male and female dies may be removed and replaced.

A cooling system is positioned for receiving the shaped product and cooling the shaped product.

    Abstract: Input food is extruded or otherwise deposited between a pair of counter-rotating wheels whose outer surfaces define mold cavities. The deposited input food is molded into pieces having desired shape (e.g., simulating pitted prunes or berries) by compression between aligned, counter-rotating mold cavity pairs. Preferably, the input food is heated prior to molding to prevent irreversible set up before compression between the mold cavities, and the wheels are chilled to cause deposited food to set up as it is compressed and carried between aligned, chilled mold cavities from a loading station to a release station. Preferably, the mold cavities are maintained at low temperature (e.g., in the range from about -10.degree. F. to 32.degree. F.). After the input food is molded and set up into pieces, the rotating cavities separate at a release station, allowing the molded pieces to fall away from the wheels.

The tubes (46) are compressed in the grooves (32) by the dough ropes as they are being crimped and cut by the abutment of the lands (26, 30) of the rollers (12, 14) together and expand and force the pillow-shaped longitudinal lengths of dough from the grooves (32) when the lands (26, 30) of the rollers (12, 14) separate.

The chambers are each connected to the roll gap by a passage (28, 30) formed between the compression surfaces at the perimeter of the rolls and the lower end of the walls adjacent to the walls of the filling chamber. The chambers (16, 18) are provided with air outlets (34, 36).
