  • Patent number: 8679382
Abstract: Improved methods and apparatus are disclosed for correcting one or more uniformity characteristics in a tire and particularly to correction in a low profile tire or a tire having a projection along the sidewall. The uniformity characteristic may be a radial force variation, conicity, or both. Correction is accomplished by stretching portions of the tire architecture to create permanent deformation.

  • Patent number: 7318717
Abstract: A method and apparatus for combining raw fibrous and binding materials in a single mixing step (Step S3), followed by consolidation (Step S5) so as to greatly shorten the overall cycle time to a finished fiber-reinforced composite part. Chopped fibrous materials and binder materials are deposited sequentially onto a belt conveyor (Step S2) so that the materials are successively layered, one on top of each other in a predetermined ratio, and subsequently mixed (Step S3) to achieve uniform dispersion throughout. The mixed materials are then deposited into a rotating mold (Step S4) to further ensure uniform dispersion of fibrous and binder materials. Impregnation of the fibrous materials with the binder material occur in-situ as the uniformly mixed materials are heated and subsequently compacted in the mold (Step S5) to obtain the desired shape of the fiber-reinforced composite part.

  • Patent number: 7114935
Abstract: The present invention provides for proper air bleed without using air wicking fabric strips and/or the perforated polyethylene material or the like. Instead, an inside surface of a curing envelope is molded with a unique embossed pattern which is designed to channel to a vacuum valve, expeditiously, all the air being evacuated from between the outer surface of a tire and an inner surface of the envelope. Additionally, a valve base area is recessed so as to allow the air channels to open directly into the valve base area during evacuation. The envelope is also designed to accept various styles and designs of air valves. Another unique feature is the creation of a decorative pattern on the inside shoulder area of a tire by transfer of a surface feature from the envelope interior. This pattern provides a significant improvement in the appearance of the finished tire.

  • Patent number: 5766644
Abstract: The pressure compression mould for the production and/or revulcanisation of tires forms a hollow space where the pressure and the temperature can be regulated. Each sidewall of the compression mould is designed with an elastic and flexible annular disc membrane which the sidewalls of a tire placed in the mould is made to thrust against in order to control the outwardly directed tensile forces in the tire. The membrane sides facing towards the mould hollow space is equipped with an annular disc-shaped membrane-protective plate in order to prevent direct contact between side faces of the tire and the respective membranes during the production/vulcanisation. The plate is split up, both in the radial and circular plane, into a series of smaller plates the free ends of which mutually overlap each other.

  • Patent number: 4529367
Abstract: Apparatus usable with a tire mold for curing large off-the-road tubeless tires having varying bead-to-bead spacing. The apparatus includes a lower barrel which supports a vertically moveable adjusting and locking ring on its upper portion and a single floating sealing ring telescopically slideably carried by the lower barrel. The lower barrel and sealing ring are formed with opposed sealing rims. A tire to be cured is interposed between the sealing rims and is then inflated so as to move the floating sealing ring upwardly and form a seal between the sealing rims solely by the resistance of the beads. The tire is then deflated and the assembly positioned in a tire curing mold. Thereafter, the tire is again inflated and the curing operation takes place.

  • Patent number: 4169698
Abstract: A trunnion type post cure inflator includes a pre-positioning platform and a loader to pick up a tire and bring it to a precise center and in parallelism with an open inside multi-stepped PCI ring, one of a pair capable of sealing different bead diameter tires. The loader works partly in conjunction with the PCI opening and closing mechanism so that the PCI is cleared for loading and the loader cleared for locking, each simultaneously. Tire holding devices are provided to permit cooling without inflation and dump unloading when the trunnion is rotated. Precision centering is obtained minimizing "no PCI" defects and enabling use of multi-step rings so that such rings do not require changing for different tire bead diameters.

  • Patent number: 3983193
Abstract: A method for retreading tires using a resilient mold or matrix ring which is normally smaller than a tire body. On its inner side, this ring has an embossing pattern which applies a tread design to a vulcanizable rubber band previously attached to a tire body. The matrix ring is first expanded and then fitted over the tire body with its vulcanizable band in place. Thereafter, the matrix ring is allowed to contract responsive to its inherent tension. The matrix ring thus attached over the tread band is centered on the body while the tire rotates. This whole unit is then heated to a temperature which converts the tread band into a plastic form and embosses the tread design from the matrix ring onto the tread band, which is vulcanized and bonded to the tire body.

  • Patent number: 3969179
Abstract: Curing apparatus is provided which may be used for vulcanizing a pre-cured tread onto a suitably prepared tire casing; the pre-cured tread being initially adhesively attached to the tire casing. The apparatus provides a mold defining a chamber in which the tire casing and adhesively attached pre-cured tread are placed; and it includes means for establishing pressurized fluid, such as steam or air, within the interior of the tire casing, and pressurized fluid, such as steam, in the annular space between the casing and the inside peripheral surface of the chamber, so that a required heat and pressure condition may be established within the chamber to cause the tread to be vulcanized and permanently bonded to the casing. The apparatus of the invention, in a second embodiment, is used for vulcanizing uncured rubber to a tire casing to form the tread.
