Patent number: 10505208Abstract: A fuel cell system comprises a fuel cell stack with a cathode exhaust outlet coupled to a cathode exhaust conduit. A condenser is provided in the cathode exhaust conduit for extracting water from a cathode exhaust stream in the cathode exhaust conduit. A compressor is disposed in the cathode exhaust conduit between the cathode exhaust outlet and the condenser and an expander is disposed downstream of the condenser for recovering energy from the condenser exhaust stream. By providing compressor and expander stages on either side of the condenser, the condenser performance can be enhanced by higher pressure operation independent of the fuel cell pressure. The parasitic load of this pressurised operation of the condenser is reduced by recovering the energy from the exhaust stream.Type: GrantFiled: February 18, 2015Date of Patent: December 10, 2019Assignee: Intelligent Energy LimitedInventors: Paul Leonard Adcock, Benjamin Burslem

Patent number: 8272861Abstract: An apparatus for vulcanizing at least a tread of a tire has a top mold section and a bottom mold section. The mold sections are secured to one another during a vulcanizing process by a plurality of locking mechanisms located around the outer circumference of the apparatus. Each locking mechanism includes a dual action hydraulic actuator. A piston rod of the hydraulic actuator imparts movement to a generally vertically oriented articulated linkage member. T-shaped projection located at an end of the articulated linkage member distal from the piston rod is brought into engagement with a securing member associated with the top mold section to secure the mold sections to one another. After the vulcanizing process is complete the hydraulic actuator imparts movement to the articulated linkage member to release the top mold section from the bottom mold section.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 2011Date of Patent: September 25, 2012Assignee: Titan International, Inc.Inventors: Louis T. Patent number: 6284087Abstract: The invention is a method for curing a sealant used to affix two substrates to one another. The sealant requires curing by heat or uv photons. To overcome the shadowing caused by metal patterns, the uv light is directed in a path towards said sealant, and a light diffusion element is positioned in the optical path. The diffusion element causes a diffusion of the optical radiation so as to enable some of the diffused optical radiation to avoid the metallization features and to be incident on the sealant. If the sealant is of the dual cure type, the curing thereof is further aided by application of heat.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 1999Date of Patent: September 4, 2001Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Robert J. von Gutfeld, James H. Patent number: 6171718Abstract: The invention is a pressurized water recovery system for a fuel cell power plant including at least one fuel cell having an electrolyte between anode and cathode electrodes for producing an electric current from a reducing fluid and an oxidant stream. A coolant loop directs a coolant fluid from a reservoir through a coolant passage to the fuel cell and back to the reservoir, and the coolant loop also receives coolant fluid through water lines secured between condensing heat exchangers and the coolant reservoir. A process exhaust passage directs a process exhaust stream from adjacent the cathode and anode electrodes out of the fuel cell and into a condensing heat exchanger. Whenever the power plant is under coolant stress, a process exhaust valve selectively directs a portion of the process exhaust stream out of the process exhaust passage to a supercharger that pressurizes the received portion of the process exhaust stream and directs the pressurized portion to a pressurized condensing heat exchanger.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 1998Date of Patent: January 9, 2001Assignee: International Fuel Cells, LLCInventors: Bryan L. Patent number: 5766644Abstract: The pressure compression mould for the production and/or revulcanisation of tires forms a hollow space where the pressure and the temperature can be regulated. Each sidewall of the compression mould is designed with an elastic and flexible annular disc membrane which the sidewalls of a tire placed in the mould is made to thrust against in order to control the outwardly directed tensile forces in the tire. The membrane sides facing towards the mould hollow space is equipped with an annular disc-shaped membrane-protective plate in order to prevent direct contact between side faces of the tire and the respective membranes during the production/vulcanisation. The plate is split up, both in the radial and circular plane, into a series of smaller plates the free ends of which mutually overlap each other.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 1997Date of Patent: June 16, 1998Inventor: Thor Solberg

Patent number: 4529367Abstract: Apparatus usable with a tire mold for curing large off-the-road tubeless tires having varying bead-to-bead spacing. The apparatus includes a lower barrel which supports a vertically moveable adjusting and locking ring on its upper portion and a single floating sealing ring telescopically slideably carried by the lower barrel. The lower barrel and sealing ring are formed with opposed sealing rims. A tire to be cured is interposed between the sealing rims and is then inflated so as to move the floating sealing ring upwardly and form a seal between the sealing rims solely by the resistance of the beads.
