  • Patent number: 4767304
Abstract: This invention provides an apparatus for shaping a spherical body consisting of dough crust and a filling from a continuously fed cylindrical body, consisting of dough crust and a filling, and comprising at least three slidable members which form an opening or closes it. The members slide on each other so as to constrict the cylindrical body. Each of the members has a tapered portion adjacent to an edge formed at the corner where two adjoining side surfaces meet. The edge has a preselected length so that the spherical body with a highly elastic dough crust is shaped without exposing the filling.

  • Patent number: 4752197
Abstract: Apparatus for producing frozen confections includes a plurality of metering pumps which equally divide a flow of semi-solid confectionary material into a like plurality of flows and delivers such flows to a like plurality of forming heads. The forming heads are reciprocated along a generally diagonal axis relative a conveyor during formation of confectionary products and in the opposite direction upon completion of formulation. The speed of translation in one direction is preferably distinct from the speed in the other direction. If desired, such flows may be combined with other unidirectionally flowing material to form a layered product. A cutting wire severs the flows of combined confection material into a desired length product in timed relation to the reciprocation of the forming heads. The individual products are received on a moving conveyor which transports them to the next operating station.

  • Patent number: 4743414
Abstract: An assembly line method of construction is applied to the making of the thin fiber reinforced shell that forms the external surface of the Fibrestone wall. An elongated endless movable belt has the desired recurring pattern to be applied as the external surface of the fiber reinforced shell. Spray guns movable transversely of the elongated belt are provided to spray concrete and chopped up reinforcing fibers on the belt to form a continuous Fibrestone panel strip as the belt moves past the spray guns. A plurality of elongated flex-ties mounted on suitable supports and each having one of their ends adapted to be secured to the upper surface of the fiber reinforced shell are dropped onto the spray formed shell while it is in the plastic or uncured state. To insure that the flex-ties are securely bonded additional concrete and chopped up fibers are sprayed on the flex-tie supports, and the area between the rows of flex-ties are rolled to provide a relatively smooth surface between the rows of flex-ties.

  • Patent number: 4741916
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for making individual dough pieces that are of substantially constant size and shape. The method includes the steps of forming a continuous dough rope and laying it on a horizontally-moving conveyor belt. The rope then passes between a pair of horizontally-reciprocating cutting elements which, when closed, cut a dough piece form the rope's end portion. The closed pair of cutting elements also forms a mold having an open top. While the dough piece is momentarily within the mold, a tamping plate is brought vertically downward into contact with the piece, thereby giving it a preselected size and shape. In another particularly preferred embodiment, a channel is formed in the continuous rope's top surface that is subsequently filled with discrete morsels. When the tamping plate is brought into contact with the dough piece, the plate presses the morsels firmly into the dough piece's outer surface.

The flexible cup member is embraced by presser members to shape the material under a preselected adjustable pressure. The resulting block of material attains hardness and shape which would be provided by hand-shaping. Regardless of the hardness of the material in the downward path between the belts, the material can always be cut by each predetermined amount by adjusting the width of the path and, therefore, the degree of compression of the material.

  • Patent number: 4548566
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a machine comprising a sweetened paste kneading device that supplies an extrusion group constituted by two telescopically coupled, vertical tubular blocks, namely a first fixed tubular block and a second movable tubular block closed at the bottom by an extrusion plate which, with the said tubular blocks, defines a variable volume chamber; and a conveyor that supplies baking tins in succession to the overhead said extrusion group. When the variable volume chamber is full of paste, "piped" or "poured in" biscuits are created with, in the first instance, the volume of the said chamber maintained constant and, in the latter, firstly a decrease and then a volumetric increase. When the paste is "piped", the separation from the said extrusion plate of the ropes of extruded paste is achieved with the use of cutting means, while for "poured in" paste, it occurs through breakage caused by the decompression of the paste in the said chamber.

  • Patent number: 4548571
Abstract: A pair of endless belts define a downwardly extending path therebetween which progressively reduces in width from the top to the bottom, so that a material of a foodstuff is compressed while being fed downwardly by the belts through the path. A horizontal conveyor belt lies below the path and is indexed to transfer a predetermined cut length of the material to a shaping station where the material is pushed up into a shaped cavity of a flexible cup member.

  • Patent number: 4534726
Abstract: An apparatus acts upon an extrudate rope to form individual elements of predetermined size and shape which are separated from one another by a predetermined space. A die is used having a predetermined shape with indentations therein to press the extrudate rope against a support at predetermined locations. A conveyor belt is used to carry the extrudate rope in one direction, and the die is supported such that during the pressing operation the die forward speed matches the extrudate rope forward speed. A supporting table underlies the conveyor belt. At least two shims are placed under the conveyor belt on either side of the path of the extrudate rope and underlying the path of the die so that portions of the extrudate rope which are pressed beneath the die are forced from under the die toward the indentations formed in the die so as to minimize waste of portions of the extrudate rope.

Abstract: Feeding of molten plastic strands into a discharge trough. At its upper end the discharge trough includes a slidably movable segment that can be extended behind the fall line of the strands as they emerge from nozzles. In its operating position, the extended segment catches the strands, and can be moved into a fore-running or non-operating position permitting free passage of the strands at the side of the discharge trough. A separational element is associated with the movable segment. As the segment is moved through the fall line of the strands, the separational element acts upon the strands and effects the desired separation. The strands which enter the discharge trough are cooled and ultimately fed to a granulator.

  • Patent number: 4519767
Abstract: A transfer apparatus is provided for transferring a molded record from the record pressing station to the record trimming station of an automated record press. The transfer apparatus is comprised of a clamp which is circular in its closed position with an interior diameter large enough to hold a record by the flash formed about the outside diameter of the record. The clamp is pivotally mounted so as to oscillate between the record pressing station and the record trimming station. In use, the clamp is positioned in the closed position between the upper and lower molding platens so as to form a molding surface against which the flash is formed in a uniform configuration during molding. After the record is molded, the clamp in the closed position is oscillated to a position in alignment with the record trimming station. The clamp is then opened which releases the record for trimming. The clamp then returns to the record pressing station for the next molding cycle.

Abstract: There is described herein a method of operating an extruder for thermoplastic material to automatically control the output of the extruder. The extruder includes a kneader screw, a hopper having a feed screw for feeding the thermoplastic material in dry particulate form to the kneader screw and an outlet feed screw for removing the plastic material in molten form from the kneader screw. Each of the screws is operated by a separate electric motor. The method includes monitoring the current of the motor for the kneader screw. Variations in the current indicate variations in the opertion of the kneader screw. Upon any variation in the current of the kneader screw motor, the speed of the hopper feed screw and/or the outlet feed screw is varied to compensate for the variation in the operation of the kneader feed screw and return the current to its original value.
