Abstract: An improved method of applying a controlled pressure to the flapper in a curly puff production apparatus. The present invention uses a pneumatic system to apply a pressure to a flapper. The invention utilizes a rotary actuator that applies a near constant pressure to the flapper. Alternatively, a pair of telescoping tubes connected to the flapper and an air pressure source can apply a near constant pressure to either the proximate end or the distal end of the flapper. Further in the alternative, a linear actuator can be used to provide a near constant pressure to the flapper. Abstract: A continuous thermoplastic wire is heated and fed into a coil forming apparatus having a rotative drum holding an injection nozzle so that it registers with and be linked in a common rotative movement to a threaded mandrel also supported by the drum. The wire discharged by the nozzle slidably engages the threads of the mandrel into a helical pattern, the mandrel being radially and coaxially surrounded by a cooled sleeve. • Patent number: 5536461
Abstract: Tube multi-pack methods of manufacture are disclosed. The tube multi-packs that are produced by the method of the present invention are one-piece tube multi-pack including an elongated thin-walled tubular element made of transparent flexible plastic material with inner and outer peripherally extending walls. At least one thin-walled web section is integrally connected to the inner peripheral extending wall of the tubular element and has greater flexibility than the tubular element in order to adjustably accommodate a plurality of separate discrete products positioned on opposite sides of the at least one integral web section. The at least one integral thin-walled web section may be connected to the inner peripherally extending wall of the tubular element at different relative locations, for example, in a spiral or curvilinear or other shaped path throughout the tubular element.

  • Patent number: 5518749
Abstract: An assembly (10) is disclosed including a rotor (38) extending into a rotor bore (24) and into a dough chamber (26) of a die housing (16), with the rotor (38) rotating at relatively high speeds in the order of 4,000 RPM. A bushing (62) is provided in the rotor bore (24) to provide a seal with the rotor (38). The bushing (62) has a small clearance with the rotor (38) sufficient to reduce frictional forces to minimize wear while effectively preventing passage of the extrudable dough under pressure in the order of 2,800 psi (200 kg per square centimeter) through the rotor bore (24) and around the rotor (38). The dough which does pass through the small clearance is allowed to fall away from the rotor (38) outside of the rotor bore (24).

  • Patent number: 5460079
Abstract: A manifold assembly for feeding dough through a plurality of dies simultaneously under substantially equal pressure, includes a longitudinally-extending manifold having an inlet end for receiving dough under pressure, an outlet end defining a plurality of extruder dies, and a top, a bottom and sides connecting the inlet and outlet ends. A chevron-shaped dough guide intermediate the inlet and outlet ends distributes the dough to the sides thereof, the guide being configured and dimensioned to distribute the dough to the dies simultaneously under substantially equal pressure. Preferably, the manifold top is concave, and the guide does not extend to the concave top, so some of the dough can pass between the guide and the concave top.

  • Patent number: 5266260
Abstract: A method of the device for producing a hollow columnar piece whereby a blend of essentially thermoplastic particles is melted into a billet, introduced into a mold, looped into layers inside the mold, and transformed into a piece, subsequent to which the piece is solidified by cooling and removed. The billet (3) is rotated around its axis and concentric with its face as it is introduced into a mold (4), the mold accommodates a core (20), space is left between the core and the inner surface (6) of the mold, the billet is laid along the circumference of the space, and the billet continues to be introduced into the space until the mold's inner surface and core are uniformly and continuously wet with constituents of the billet.

  • Patent number: 5139403
Abstract: A device for producing pellets from film. A cradle is rotatably mounted about a longitudinal axis of rotation to a main frame. An axle arranged perpendicular to the longitudinal axis holds one or more rolls of film. A plurality of drive rollers pull the film from the rolls while the rolls are rotated on the longitudinal axis twisting the film into a strand. An oven located between the rolls and drive rollers heats the strand to permanently set the twist thereon. A pelletizer located aft of the drive rollers cuts the strand into individual pellets. In a modified version, glass roving is extended through the holder past the roll and wrapped with the film into a single strand. In an alternate embodiment, the roll of film is mounted to an axle having a longitudinal axis extending in the same direction as the axis of rotation. The film is pulled axially off the roll and twisted into a strand.
