Patent number: 5665403Abstract: The double tapered die mount defines a channel to support the die shoulder. No contact occurs between the die and die housing. The die shoulder is machined to be in generally congruent relationship with the channel shape of the die mount of the invention. In the prior art, the die shoulder is perpendicular to both the inner radial surface and the outer radial surface of the die mount. In the preferred embodiment, the die shoulder is tapered from the inner radial surface toward the die edge to define an inner die taper. The die shoulder also tapers from the outer radial surface to the die edge to define an outer die taper. The side walls of the channel defined by the die mount of the invention taper inwardly to be congruent with tapered surfaces of the die shoulder. The inner channel wall, i.e., the channel wall closer to the axis of rotation of the die, contacts the inner die taper. The outer channel wall, i.e., the channel wall farther from the axis of rotation of the die, contacts the outer die taper.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 1994Date of Patent: September 9, 1997Assignee: Andritz Sprout-Bauer, Inc.Inventor: Oszkar Bittner

Patent number: 5585124Abstract: The present invention employs a main shaft cantilevered from a frame. A die holder is disposed around the outside of the shaft, and in the preferred embodiment rotates by the use of adjustable tapered roller bearings around the shaft. Fixed to the die holder is a die, and the die and die holder define a pelletizing chamber. The shaft supports a roller frame with a plurality of rollers within the pelletizing chamber. The resulting construction is a pelletizer shaft support structure that uses only a single set of bearings. In the preferred embodiment, the main shaft is comprised of an inner shaft and an outer shaft. The inner shaft is located coaxially within the outer shaft and supported within the outer shaft by static bushings. The roller frame and rollers are mounted to the inner shaft. The inner shaft and the outer shaft are both fixed to the frame structure.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 1994Date of Patent: December 17, 1996Assignee: Andritz Sprout-Bauer, Inc.Inventor: Oszkar Bittner

Patent number: 5542838Abstract: A quick die change capability is provided to a pellet mill by means of a fixture spider which can be attached to the pelleting die and to the rollers for a unitized roller/die cartridge. By employment of quick acting captive die clamps, as well as push-pull jacks, assembly and dismantling of the die/roller cartridge in the mill is simplified. Three axis adjustability of the fixture spider enhances ease of alignment.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 1994Date of Patent: August 6, 1996Assignee: California Pellet Mill CompanyInventors: Donald M. Patent number: 5487862Abstract: A method and apparatus in the context of a pellet former (10) that is integral to an annular gap extruder/expander (11). A housing (30) is disposed around the annular gap extruder outlet end. Material is received from annular gap (37) on the face of a rotating disc (14) and, upon expansion, is directed into a roller area (43) by feed plows (23) or a screw flight (42). Pellet rollers (24) rotatably mounted on the disc push the material through a ring pellet die (22) disposed around the roller area. Cut off knives (25) attached to the disc cut the material into pellets as it exits the pellet die.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 1994Date of Patent: January 30, 1996Assignee: Andritz Sprout-Bauer, Inc.Inventor: James D. Patent number: 5480626Abstract: A method for the production of spherical granulated materials from powdered solids and the granulated materials produced by it are disclosed. The method is characterized in that the powdered solids are moistened, possibly together with the usual binders, flow agents and plasticizers for the compression of solids, by the addition of a corresponding quantity of liquid and mixing smoothly in a mixer; they are then compressed with a ring collar mill into cylindrical agglomerate and then rounded in a rounding unit with wrinkle washer. The granulated solids thus produced have a very narrow particle size distribution and are distinguished by good flowability and good dispersability, depending on process controls.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 1993Date of Patent: January 2, 1996Assignee: Degussa AktiengesellschaftInventors: Claas-Jurgen Klasen, Martin Foerster, Andreas Hofler, Klaus-Peter Bauer, Herbert Riemenschneider, Oliver Franta, Rainer Gilg

Patent number: 5413487Abstract: A densifier and cooling elevator for compressing previously separated burnable waste material into cubes of desired length and shape with the cubes forming a fuel for various purposes in which a burnable product can be effectively used. The densifier includes a rotatable drum and a plurality of circumferentially positioned die tubes which are welded together and held in rigid radial position. The inner ends of the die tubes are supplied with waste material treated previously in various stages of a waste recycling apparatus. Oppositely disposed rollers engage, compress and compact the waste material into the die tubes and extrude the compacted waste material from the die tubes as a dense cube. The cooling elevator supplies the previously treated burnable waste material to the drum and is provided with spray nozzles that may be optionally employed to cool or provide moisture to the waste material to more effectively enable the waste material to be compressed and compacted into cubes.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 1992Date of Patent: May 9, 1995Inventor: Vernon J.
