A co-extrusion head (10) comprises co-axially arranged flow channels (FK1, FK2), each supplied by a single inlet opening (ZF1, ZF2) with a material melt, distributed annularly in a distribution ring (26, 28). The gap width in each distribution ring (26, 28) is greater in the vicinity of the inlet opening (ZF1, ZF2) than the gap width (s2, s6) in the region of the side opposing the inlet opening (ZF1, ZF2). The flow channels (FK1, FK2) are also asymmetric with regard to the gap widths.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2005Date of Patent: February 8, 2011Inventor: Günter Richter

Patent number: 7811073Abstract: The invention relates to a blow head for producing blown tubular films from thermoplastic materials. Films produced by conventional blow heads often have dull strips or wavy areas, the so-called spiral strips. The aim of the invention is to avoid these negative film properties. For this purpose, the blow head comprises a plurality of annular gap-shaped melt channels arranged concentrically around the center axis of the blow head, the spiral distributor of the inner melt channel being arranged on the inner limiting wall in relation to the center axis of the blow head and the spiral distributor of the outer melt channel being arranged on the outer limiting wall in relation to the center axis of the blow head.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 2007Date of Patent: October 12, 2010Assignee: Hosokawa Alpine AktiengesellschaftInventors: Franz Mahler, Christian Baier, Michael Heinecker, Joachim Libowski

Publication number: 20100074981Abstract: The improved apparatus includes an improved extruder die assembly comprising a forming section, an injection section, and a converging nozzle section having axially aligned ridgelines which gradually project into the bore of the nozzle as the nozzle converges to gradually disrupt the axial flow of an extrudate at specific peripheral points thereby altering the extrudate's velocity profile. By gradually disrupting the axial flow in close proximity to the projecting ridgelines prior to its extrusion, the dimensional quality of the resulting direct expanded food piece is greatly improved. Moreover, by carefully positioning the capillary channels of the injection section into that portion of the flowing extrudate not affected by the axially aligned ridgelines, a distinct colored and/or flavored pattern is imparted into the extrudable food mass during the extrusion process while improving the quality of dimensional design aspects of the resulting extruded, complexly shaped, direct expanded food products.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 30, 2009Publication date: March 25, 2010Applicant: FRITO-LAY OF NORTH AMERICA, INC.Inventors: Jorge C. The at least one passage section forms at least one partial area of a channel of the machine and is mounted so that it can move in relation to this channel. This at least one passage section is coupled to at least one source, which is provided for effecting oscillations and by means of which the passage section can be set in mechanical oscillatory motion with regard to the channel of the machine.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 2002Date of Patent: February 16, 2010Assignee: Buehler AGInventor: Boris Ouriev

Patent number: 7661949Abstract: A device for creating curved sausage links involves extruding an elongated sausage strand having linear protein fibers therein out of an elongated hollow meat emulsion extrusion tube. The flow of meat emulsion through the tube is partially restricted by a restrictor element within the tube which permits a portion of the meat emulsion to pass thereover in a substantially uninterrupted manner, but which requires a separate layer of meat emulsion to have its movement through the tube inhibited by engaging the restrictor element and having to move thereover to exit the tube. When the sausage strand is subjected to heat, the uninterrupted portion is inclined to have more lengthwise shrinkage in the presence of heat than the other layer, thus causing the sausage link to assume a curved configuration. The device has a stuffing tube with the restrictor element therein as described heretofore.Type: GrantFiled: November 26, 2003Date of Patent: February 16, 2010Assignee: Stork Townsend Inc.Inventors: Martinus W. Patent number: 7648658Abstract: An alternate polymer extrusion method and system reduces “drool” effects that detract from precise control over the content of two or more materials in an extrudate along its length. In the system, two or more extruders direct melt to two or more gear pumps. Control of the speed of the gear pumps controls the amount of each material emergent from the pumps, proceeding to a convergence in the paths from the pumps and thence to a die. Melt in each path between each pump and the convergence tends to expand and drool into the convergence as its associated pump is slowed and stopped. To prevent this, in the die, a constriction in each path just upstream of the convergence greatly reduces drool past that point by requiring a much greater pressure to force the melt past the constriction. The increased pressure required increases compression and expansion of the melt between the pump and the construction as a pump starts or increases in speed, on one hand, and stop or decreases in speed, on the other hand.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 2004Date of Patent: January 19, 2010Assignee: Harrel, Inc.Inventor: Holton E. Patent number: 7641462Abstract: In a joining section there are columnar distribution pins, on whose periphery a groove is formed. A size of the groove is strictly determined. A first dope and a third dope are fed through the respective grooves such that a width of each dope is controlled. Thereafter, the surface and third dopes are joined with an second dope. Thus a multi-layer stream is obtained and cast through a die lip of a casting die for forming a casting film having a multi-layer structure. The casting film is dried and thus a multi-layer film is obtained.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 2005Date of Patent: January 5, 2010Assignee: FUJIFILM CorporationInventors: Koju Ito, Hidekazu Yamazaki

Patent number: 7594807Abstract: In a twin-screw extruder including a barrel, which has two screws disposed in parallel in its inside and an opening at one edge, and an extrusion molding die disposed to the opening side of the barrel through a straightening vane and a filter net, the straightening vane includes a first straightening vane and a second straightening vane, the first one has a hole forming region having plural through holes formed in a region whose size and shape are in agreement with the size and the shape of the inner periphery of the opening portion, and the second one has a hole structure whose size and shape of its inner periphery at one opening edge are in agreement with the size and the shape of the hole forming region, and its sectional area is reduced once in a process to the other opening edge and then expanded in a taper shape.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 2007Date of Patent: September 29, 2009Assignee: NGK Insulators, IncInventor: Yasunori Yamazaki

Patent number: 7588709Abstract: In a casting process of a film production, a casting dope is discharged through an outlet of a casting die. In the casting die, lip plates and inner deckle plates are arranged such that a lower end of each inner deckle plates may be form a protrusion at a side edge of the outlet of the casting die. Each protrusion length from a bottom of the lip plate is at most 9 ?m. Thus the retaining of the casting dope near the outlet through a dope passage in the casting die is reduced, and therefore the skinning doesn't occur in the casting dope.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 2007Date of Patent: September 15, 2009Assignee: FUJIFILM CorporationInventors: Daisaku Abiru, Atsuo Futami
