  • Patent number: 7556491
Abstract: A heating apparatus or platen is provided with a heating surface adjacent a heat exchange fluid area defined by the heating surface attached by side walls and end plates to a retainer plate. A flow through system pumps heat exchange fluid through a platen with holes in end plates. Optional walls partition the heat exchange fluid area into flow channels in the platen. An alternative circulating flow system circulates heat exchange fluid in a closed platen with solid end plates. A u-shaped wall and at least one internal wall create a continuous fluid flow channel inside the closed platen. Flow systems pump a heat exchange fluid through heat exchange fluid area for heating by at least one internal heating element within the platen. The temperature of the heat exchange fluid remains relatively constant as it passes through the platen from heat conduction by the internal heating elements.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is an apparatus for manufacturing a megapixel multi-focus lens. The lens manufacturing apparatus of the present invention includes a loading means for supplying a mold body, in which a blank, interposed between upper and lower molds, is placed, to a forming position, a compression-forming means, which preheats, compresses and cools the supplied mold body such that the blank is formed into a multi-focus lens having an aspherical surface, and a discharge means, which discharges the multi-focus lens formed by the compression-forming means. Therefore, processes from loading to discharging can be automated, so that the productivity of the apparatus for manufacturing the multi-focus lens can be markedly enhanced. Furthermore, because the lens manufacturing apparatus is covered with a cabinet, a superior appearance thereof is ensured.

  • Patent number: 7393193
Abstract: A system is capable of making a metallic product with robust mechanical and electrical properties. The system includes a pressing stage configured to compress powder (e.g., MMC material) to form a green compact from the powder, a sintering stage configured to sinter the green compact to form a sintered structure from the green compact, and a consolidation stage configured to apply electric current to the sintered structure to form the metallic product from the sintered structure. The electric current is in the form of high density, short electric AC or DC pulses and results in consolidation of the sintered structure at grain boundaries to correct defects in the boundaries (e.g., areas of high electrical resistance) without melting the bulk metal to produce the metallic product. Such a system alleviates the need for coining process, which could fracture bonds and thus weaken the structure, following the sintering process.

  • Patent number: 7264462
Abstract: A consolidated cellulosic article of increased thickness and target face density, as well as an apparatus and method of manufacturing same, are disclosed. The apparatus includes first and second dies adapted to move toward one another with a mat of cellulosic material and a binding agent therebetween. When the dies move together, the mat is compressed under pressure and heat with forms on one of the dies forming indentations in the mat. Compression zones of increased density form between the indentations and a first face of the mat. By spacing the forms appropriately, the compression zones overlap, and the first face of the resulting consolidated board is provided with substantially uniform density. Since the entire board is not compressed to the same degree, its overall thickness is enhanced while the density of the first face of the mat is increased, and relatively little material is used.

  • Patent number: 7134858
Abstract: A system for pressing lignocellulosic and/or cellulosic materials to produce composite products such as medium density fiberboard subjects a mat of material to alternating or vibratory forces applied to a face surface of the mat. The frequency of the alternating forces may be between 0.2 Hz and 2 Hz. This vibratory pressing action causes heat to be transferred more quickly to the core of the mat from the surface, and reduces the pressing time required for thermosetting resins within the mat to cure. The system comprises a press for accepting the mat; a sensor for sensing a parameter indicative of heat in the core of the mat; and a control system for controlling the application of vibratory and non-vibratory forces to the mat.
