Abstract: A method for producing a coal cake that is suitable for coking and for subsequent charging of a coking oven chamber. At least one vibrating station including a push-table vibrating machine with an oscillatorily mounted vibrating table is provided. A mould box is clamped to the vibrating table. The mould box is filled with granular raw coal material. A weight is placed on top of the mould box. The mould box is vertically oscillated while the weight presses from above into the mould box so as to mould a vibration-compacted coal block. The vibration-compacted coal block is pushed off the vibrating table, using an ejector, onto an underlying support. The vibration-compacted coal block is pushed on the underlying support by a length (x) of the vibration-compacted coal block successive to another vibration-compacted coal block. The vibration-compacted coal blocks are successively stacked so as to form the coal cake. The coal cake is introduced into the coking oven chamber using a transporting device.

  • Patent number: 8182260
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for forming molded tapered products, such as masonry blocks, whereby high quality finished products are removed from their mold without the need for complex machinery for demolding. The mold may include one or more mold cavities having one or more movable cavity walls. The movable cavity walls may include an end liner having a planar product forming surface capable of moving from a vertical position to an angled position. Tapered products may be formed by moving the mold towards a pallet so that the pallet engages with the end liner and causes the end liner to move from the vertical position to the angled position. Moldable material may then be introduced into the mold cavity and may be allowed to remain in the mold cavity until it is self-sustaining. The mold may then be moved away from the pallet such that a molded product remains on the pallet, thereby allowing the end liner to move from the angled position to the vertical position.

Abstract: There is provided an apparatus for producing a paving block comprising a block substrate and a solid top layer selected from a tile-like layer and a cured cement mortar layer firmly bonded onto the upper surface of the block substrate. The apparatus comprises a mortar applicator (21) consisting essentially of a mortar container and a masking bottom board (23) having an opening (24) to be located on the back of a top layer (1-2) or the upper surface of a block substrate (1-1) during application of cement mortar thereon, a clamping plate (25) to be located on the top layer (1-2) placed on the block substrate (1-1) during bonding them, and a scraping frame (26) for scraping excess mortar remaining on the side surfaces of the bonded block. When the apparatus is used to produce a novel paving block comprising a block substrate and a solid top layer having a plane dimension smaller than the substrate, squeeze-out deposits (6) of the cement mortar (7) are further formed around the bonded top layer (1-2).

Abstract: The invention is concerned with an hydration means for wetting the exposed surface of a core void formed on the withdrawal of a core former from a construction panel comprising compacted gypsum or like particulate materials, and proposes the free suspension of a reciprocable spray head by a flexible small-bore tube through which a setting liquid is applied to the spray head from a cross-head with which the tube is connected in fluid flow relationship. If necessary, the spray head may be weighted, while an apertured guide plate through which the tube passes may be provided above the upper limit of movement of the spray head.

  • Patent number: 4765890
Abstract: To reduce tailing, the frit at the outlet to the liquid chromatographic column has a diameter substantially equal to that of the inside diameter of the outlet end of the column and less than two millimeters. It is held directly against the packing of the column within a cylindrical member having a shoulder with a central aperture at least the size of the diameter of the frit and cylindrical walls which are fastened to resist force in the direction of the axis of the column from its inlet to its outlet. A gasket seals the cylindrical holder against the column wall. The frit is formed of gold-plated nickel spheres sintered together at a temperature lower than the gold-nickel eutectic temperature of 950 degrees Celsius but above the phase-immiscibility temperature of 720 degrees Celsius. The size and shape of the frit is selected to reduce tailing by causing the flow path from the column to be uniform.
