  • Patent number: 4601652
Abstract: A process and an apparatus for producing a molded skin product such as an interior decoration member like an instrument panel for an automobile or other vehicle. The process includes charging a desired amount of synthetic resin powder into a treating container disposed facing a predetermined shaped molding mold surface. The mold surface is heated to a temperature of at least the melting temperature of the synthetic resin. The powder is spattered onto the mold surface by violently agitating the same by an agitation means whereby a fused coating of the powder is formed on the mold surface. The spattering is discontinued when the coating reaches a predetermined thickness. The mold surface is cooled thereby solidifying the coating to form the molded skin material. The molded skin material is then removed from the mold surface. The powder can be fluidized during the spattering.

  • Patent number: 4569807
Abstract: As in the conventional manner for molding an optical component, a molding cavity is used in combination with a relief chamber with which the molding cavity can selectively communicate. There is no communication between the relief chamber and the molding cavity while the latter is filled. The molding cavity is then placed in communication with the relief chamber. Subsequently, relative displacement of the relief chamber and the molding cavity parallel to the axis of the combination interrupts such communication. The optical component thus molded may be of any kind, such as an optical lens, specifically an ophthalmic lens.

  • Patent number: 4548565
Abstract: An extrusion machine for making elongated articles of concrete by forcing the concrete through a mold, the article having a relatively large core. The machine is moved forwardly by reaction as the concrete is forced against the molded concrete. A rotatable spiral conveyor extends longitudinally of the mold and moves the concrete through the mold. A nonrotatable forming element in the mold forms the internal cavity. The element is immediately following the downstream end of the conveyor. The forming element has its lower edge positioned so that not more than 10% of the height of the forming element is below the lower edge of the conveyor the lower edge and lower sides of the element being free of any substantial ramp. The longitudinal center line of the element is higher than the center line of the conveyor and includes a ramp extending upwardly from the downstream end of the conveyor. The conveyor forces the concrete over the forming elements to form the concrete article.

  • Patent number: 4530383
Abstract: The present invention relates to a device for feeding a substrate into the cells of a set of growing cells placed underneath the device. The feeding device includes two horizontal feeding rolls parallel to each other. Each feeding roll includes a plurality of pin elements which project radially from the face of the rolls in an outward direction. The pins are placed in the normal planes of the axes of the feeding rolls in an alternating fashion with respect to the rolls. This arrangement allows the pins to interlock with each other in the vertical plane through which the substrate is fed. The substrate, by the effect of the circumferential velocity of the feeding rolls, is introduced into the cells so as to compact any material deposited earlier into the cells.

  • Patent number: 4529372
Abstract: Apparatus and method for forming hollow articles from plasticized materials are disclosed. A preform is partially formed under substantially no pressure on a preform core by introducing the core into a void-free charge of plasticized material that is placed in a preform cavity from a source of the plasticized material. After the preform core and preform cavity have moved together to define a preform mold space, the charge of plasticized material is subjected to a pressure forming step to form a completely packed preform on the core. The preform is then blow-molded in a blow cavity by introducing blowing gas into the preform through the preform core. • Patent number: 4400149
Abstract: A machine for "dry mix" packerhead concrete pipe manufacture has two stations and a separable tubular jacket movable therebetween. A rotatable cylindrical packerhead is movable axially within the jacket and a "dry mix" delivery means deposits mix atop the packerhead as it rotates and moves vertically upwardly within the jacket. The packerhead distributes the mix thereabout to form a concrete pipe in the jacket. A radially expandable and contractable core is movable axially in a contracted condition to a position within the pipe and is then expanded. Vibrators within the core are operated to "redensify" the pipe; that is, to compact the mass thereof, to eliminate voids, and to relieve residual forming stresses therein. A guide ring is employed to align the contracted core axially with the pipe during entry and further guiding and supporting devices for the core are provided. Core entry and withdrawal is power actuated as is core expansion and contraction within the pipe.

Abstract: Process and apparatus for solidifying molten materials by pouring onto a substrate and cooling, in which undesired crystallinity is avoided by first forming a solidified protective stabilizing skin on the melt surface, e.g. by carefully controlled air cooling or dusting with powdered material, before more vigorous cooling by fluid coolant, e.g. air or water, directed against the solidified skin. Optionally, silicone liquids and/or kerosene or other hydrocarbons of lower boiling range are used in minor amounts to treat the melt before pouring to promote the formation of amorphous solidified material and provide increased hardness on aging. When using an endless belt as substrate, the plain solidification surface may be modified by superposing a skeleton framework to form selectively shaped tablet or bar molds. The packer heads are simultaneously rotated and elevated in the jackets to build up the cylindrical walls of the pipes. A dual bell packer is moved into engagement with the pallets at the lower end of the jackets to rotate and vibrate the pallets to form the bell sections of the concrete pipes. A pallet positioner is used to locate the pallets on the turntable.

  • Patent number: 4145173
Abstract: Apparatus and a method for forming a uniform film of plastic material, having good optical characteristics, on a substrate are disclosed. The plastic material is supplied to and maintained under pressure in a distribution channel and is fed from the distribution channel through a narrow slot to the substrate. A forming member subsequently forms the plastic material into a uniform film on the substrate. The level of the plastic material in front of the forming member is limited to a range of values based upon the thickness of the film being formed.

  • Patent number: 4102367
Abstract: A system for filling containers such as for example, bottle molds intended for slush molding, with liquid such as slip. The containers are arranged along a line which is parallel with a track that guides the movement of a carriage. The carriage carries an arm that swings between two positions, one of which is raised above the line of the containers to permit movement of the carriage without interfering with the containers when desired, and the other of which is below the carriage and bringing the arm to a filling position relative to a container. The arm carries a filling nozzle which is intended to enter the mouth of the container, the nozzle having a probe which dips down into the container. Electrical circuitry is provided which for the most part is carried in the carriage, such circuitry cooperating with the probe of the nozzle and sensing elements on the track and carriage.

  • Patent number: 4025268
Abstract: Plasticizable material is pressure molded into articles free from flash in mold cavities of specialized molds defined by separate mold sections with removable cores. Prior to and during molding, the sections are held clamped together to fully confine the material which is pressurized by reducing the volumetric capacity of each cavity. This pressurization is maintained until the material is set or cured, and may be increased before final set to forge or densify the material further. The method employs a conventional press and two gangs of specialized two-piece, multi-cavity molds. The molds of each gang are supported in a horizontal row, with their juxtaposed flat faces and parting planes disposed vertically, for movement of each mold section flatwise endwise of the row to open and closed positions. The mold sections are clamped closed by power means which apply extraneous clamping pressure independently of the press operation.

  • Patent number: 3999920
Abstract: A hopper for mortar is provided with a gate slidable between one position wherein mortar is free to flow downwardly and out of the device and another position wherein the gate blocks the hopper outlet. The flanking walls of the hopper are provided with adjustable supports for striker posts. In use to fill a vertical joint between ends of two adjacent masonry blocks, the supports are adjusted to slightly enter and fully cover the opposite sides of the joint. With the hopper in place over the joint, the gate is slid open and mortar is permitted to flow, until the space between the ends of the two blocks, and between the two striker posts is filled. Then the gate is slid closed. As the device is lifted straight upwards, the striker posts which preferably present convex surfaces toward the mortar, automatically tool the opposite sides of the joint.
