Patent number: 6837699Abstract: The invention of this patent is to be used in molding applications. An external applied force causes an actuator rod to move in a linear motion. This motion causes two platens to move simultaneously together to form a clean, even mold. The platens move linearly on tie bars, which guide the linear movement of the platens. Linkage arms are mounted on a mounting plate and the linkage arms are connected to the platens. This allows the clamping and applied force stresses on the platens to be dependent on the mounting plate, rather than the tie bars. The platens travel at the same speed and distance in relation to each other. The result is an evenly produced part that comprises two die or mold halves which are perfectly centered.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2002Date of Patent: January 4, 2005Inventor: John Jandura

Patent number: 6540494Abstract: An electromagnetic driving device for a mold clamping system is disclosed, which has a stationary plate fixedly mounted on a lathe bed; a mold guiding mechanism mounted parallel on the lathe bed; a movable plate slidably arranged on the mold guiding mechanism, facing the stationary plate, for generating a relative slide to the stationary plate; and a movable plate driving mechanism for driving the movable plate on the mold guiding mechanism. The electromagnetic driving device utilizes magnetic force to drive the linkage, movable plate etc. to perform open-mold movement, close-mold movement, and mold-locking movement.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 2001Date of Patent: April 1, 2003Assignee: Industrial Technology Research InstituteInventors: Hsin-Hung Lin, Min-Wen Wang, Hsuan Peng, Li-Teh Hu, Yong-Zhen Chung, Ming-Chang Deng

Patent number: 6312249Abstract: A die closing device of an injection molding machine includes a stationary die clamping plate, a movable die clamping plate, and a toggle lever pair connecting the clamping plates. The toggle lever pair includes a first connecting rod and a second connecting rod, the first connecting rod being pivotally connected to the stationary die clamping plate, and the second connecting rod being pivotally connected between the first rod and the movable die clamping plate. The device further includes a powered driver operable for imparting motion to at least one of the first and second connecting rods to controllably move the movable die clamping plate relative to the stationary plates to open and close the die.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 1997Date of Patent: November 6, 2001Assignee: Mannesmann AktiengesellschaftInventors: Helmut Schreiner, Ernst Würl

Patent number: 6299428Abstract: A method and apparatus for compression molding plastic articles such as closures include a plurality of tools mounted in opposed pairs with the tools of each pair including opposed male and female mold sections. The tool pairs are mounted for motion in an endless path. The tool pairs and associated mold sections are closed during motion in the path for compression a molding charge in the mold cavity formed between the mold sections of each pair, and opening the mold cavity to release an article formed between the mold sections. A latch mechanism is associated with each pair of tools for holding the tools and mold sections in the closed position during motion in the path independent of the mechanism for closing the tools and mold halves. In this way, forces imparted to the mold halves and tools to hold the mold closed are isolated from the machine frame. The latch mechanism is selectively unlatched to permit opening of the mold halves and release of the article compression-molded between the mold halves.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 2000Date of Patent: October 9, 2001Assignee: Owen-Illinois Closure Inc.Inventor: Keith W.
