  • Patent number: 5658602
Abstract: An apparatus for forming contact lenses, wherein front curve mold halves are filled with a hardenable transparent material, such as a polymerizable hydrogel, and back curve mold halves are coupled to the front curve, therein forming a lens. More particularly, the apparatus includes a conveyor for transporting pallets of mold halves to the apparatus, an array of piston structures for raising and aligning the back curves with respect to the filled front curve halves, a mechanism for reciprocating the piston array to couple pairs of front and back curves, and a vacuum chamber for maintaining a vacuum around the curves during coupling. In addition, there is provided individual spring biasing to each reciprocating element whereby sensitivity to thickness variations and pallet misfeeds may be minimized. Further, there is provided a vacuum sleeve, through which the pistons reciprocate within the vacuum chamber, which sleeve preserves the vacuum within the chamber.

  • Patent number: 5230908
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus which allows for selective employment of a plurality of collapsible support cores to provide shoring support to the interior walls of cabinets during insulating thereof. The cores can be selectively interchanged to utilize a core which corresponds to the size and shape of the particular cabinet to be insulated. Each of the support cores are insertable into the interior section of a cabinet and expanded therein to position a plurality of shoring panels, including separate corner shoring panels, into supporting engagement with the interior walls of a cabinet during insulating to prevent bulging of the interior walls associated with the insulating. After insulating, the core panels are retracted away from the cabinet interior walls so that the core can be inserted into and removed from the cabinet interior without contacting the interior surfaces during insertion nor removal.

Abstract: The apparatus includes molding a plurality of recesses on a layer of foam material which is laid on a laying surface and moved forward. These recesses include a base open on the laying surface and are subsequently cross-linked by introducing steam under pressure through the bases of the recesses into cavities of the recesses formed during the molding step. The apparatus includes a conveyor element in which a plurality of plates disposed side-by-side are provided with protuberances corresponding to the recesses to be formed in the foam layer. The protuberances are open at their bases to enable introduction of steam into an inner space within each of the protuberances.

  • Patent number: 5173234
Abstract: According to the invention, calibrated rings are obtained by superficially vulcanizing extruded or profiled extrudate at the exit of an extrusion head (T), then by cutting this vulcanized extrudate into portions by means of a conical cutting device (C), subsequently by butting the two ends, in the respective form of a conical tip and a funnel, of each portion (t) together under hot conditions and under a controlled pressure, in order to obtain a ring blank which is then engaged between the half-cavities of a mold (Mo), where it undergoes shaping and vulcanization by the heating of the latter and thereafter deburring as a result of a shearing action produced by a push device (D) causing the half-cavities to slide in the closed position in the frame of the mold, before causing the opening of the latter by means of a device (G) and the release of the calibrated and superficially clean ring obtained.
