    Abstract: An apparatus for producing multi-walled thermoplastic tubing having a corrugated wall and a substantially smooth inner wall secured to the corrugated wall, there is incorporated two sets of endless flexible belts each of which is entrained around rotatable end rolls, the outer runs of the belts of one of the sets thereof alternating with the outer runs of the other of the sets thereof, with these outer runs of the various belts serving to urge the inner wall against the corrugations of the corrugated wall while the thermoplastic material of the walls is soft thereby to secure the walls together, and with an electrically energizeable heating coil being provided for softening the thermoplastic material of the corrugated wall to ensure satisfactory securement between the walls.

    Abstract: A device to weld or splice two ends of a thermoplastic yarn. The device includes means for holding the yarn adjacent a heating element. The heating element is energized and the two ends of the yarn are fused together to form a globule of molten plastic. Thereafter, the heat is terminated and the device automatically pulls the two lengths of yarn apart and holds them under tension, and at the same time, the device molds the globule into a relatively smooth mass that has a width substantially equal to the width or diameter of the yarn.

    Abstract: Apparatus for uniting at least two concentrically extruded tubular films of thermoplastic synthetic resin includes a mandrel located in the innermost of the films and having a leading conical portion and a trailing cylindrical portion to expand the innermost film in transverse direction substantially to the diameter of the outermost film. The mandrel is heated by electromagnetic waves produced by a high-frequency transmitter connected to a high-frequency coil surrounding the tubular films in the region of the mandrel. A temperature sensor connected to the mandrel senses the temperature of the latter and the sensed temperature is transmitted by an ultra shortwave transmitter connected to the sensor and ultra shortwave receiver connected to the high-frequency transmitter to control the latter and to maintain the temperature of the mandrel at a desired constant temperature.

    Abstract: An arrangement is described for assuring a parallel, evenly-spaced relationship among a succession of rod-shaped fasteners, illustratively nails, to be joined by an extruded plastic ribbon and thereafter molded into a nail strip suitable for use in pneumatic nail drivers and the like. A succession of grooves formed in a transfer chain that receives and advances a succession of the nails in a first plane is conventionally contacted by an elongated support means which bears against a first plurality of the grooves on the chain to capture the nails in the grooves. A second pressure member of smaller longitudinal extent than the support member is resiliently mounted in inwardly overlapping relation to the support member adjacent and upstream of the molding portion of the apparatus for contacting the shafts of the captured nails immediately before such nails and the adhered plastic ribbon are molded into the strip.

Cooperative switches mounted in an adjustment drive follower mechanism continue the circuit continuity to a solenoid activated drive motor reversing switch. A breaker unit within the follower mechanism is directly driven by the adjustment power train to open the motor switch when the breaker unit is correctly aligned with the desired set position.

    Abstract: An apparatus is provided for the continuous molding of hardened resin construction members reinforced with fiber material precisely positioned and arranged during the continuous molding process. The reinforcing fiber material in the form of continuous rovings, woven webs, fabric, fleeces, etc. and having a sizing is fed into an elongated hollow molding duct where the material is first compressed and heated to bond the fibers together at their points of contact to form a grid structure. Synthetic resin is injected into the duct intermediate its ends to impregnate the grid structure and be shaped by the molding duct with the reinforcing fibers contained within the resin. The synthetic resin is then hardened by heating as the shaped resin passes further along the duct forming the finished construction or profile member.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for insulating a plurality of electrically conductive elements and to produce electrical cable where the method includes heating the unformed insulative material and conductive elements, applying pressure and simultaneously removing heat with a pair of rollers at a relatively low temperature and applying pressure and heat to preselected regions only of the insulative material. The method and apparatus further allow preselected portions of the cable to be unbonded so as to facilitate access to the conductive elements by simply interrupting the application of pressure to the preselected portions. The heat, press and cool and press and bond method may also be accomplished in a step and repeat process using presses to insulative flexible circuits. The above method and apparatus provide more reliable bonding at an accelerated rate of production.
