Patent number: 6082989Abstract: A molding arrangement and method, such as slush or rotational molding, for forming a thermoplastic shell or skin product. The mold arrangement includes a hollow mold housing provided with a mold shell thereon, which together define an air chamber located within the mold housing. A plurality of air flow control devices, such as centrifugal fans, are mounted within the mold housing and direct heated air into the air chamber through discharge channels defined within the mold housing. The mold arrangement also includes an elongate air supply and heating arrangement which generates heated air within the mold housing and along substantially the entire longitudinal extent thereof to effect uniform heating of the mold shell.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 1998Date of Patent: July 4, 2000Inventor: Douglas J. Patent number: 5762972Abstract: An apparatus performs induction heating or dielectric heating of a mold for an injection molding system up to a desired temperature within a short time by using high frequencies or microwaves. The electric current of high frequency generated from a high frequency generator flows through a coil embedded in the mold to induction-heat the mold by an induction phenomenon with the mold, and microwaves from a microwave generator heats the dielectric material within the mold, thereby preventing cooling of the mold when a resin fluid is injected into a cavity.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 1996Date of Patent: June 9, 1998Assignee: Daewoo Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventor: Sung-Kwang Byon

Patent number: 5525278Abstract: The recycling of used polyurethane foam is made possible by a process in which the starting material is first dried to a moisture content of 2 to 4% and is then filled into a multi-part mold (16, 17, 18) that defines the molded part (32). The parts of the mold (16, 17, 18) are then, with generation of the necessary compression pressure of below 20 N/mm.sup.2, pressed together and locked. These molds (16, 17, 18) that are subject to the compression pressure are heated in a tunnel furnace (20) so that the molding material reaches a temperature of approximately 130.degree. C. After a predefined holding time, the molds (16, 17, 18) can be opened under pressure and the molded parts (32) can be removed. Molded parts (32) with a thickness of 42 mm and of corresponding size have been produced successfully with this process. Instead of the molds (16, 17, 18), it is also possible that a two-part tool is used.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 1993Date of Patent: June 11, 1996Assignee: Hecker und Krosch GmbH & Co. Patent number: 5182117Abstract: In a heating/cooling unit for selectively heating or cooling a set of dies, oil received in a reservoir is supplied to a flow direction changeover valve by a first oil pump. In a stably mode, oil is returned to the reservoir through the changeover valve and a heat exchanger. In a heating mode, the oil is supplied to a second oil pump from the changeover valve through a check valve. The second oil pump supplies the oil to an oil heater, and the heated oil is introduced into a fluid path formed in the dies to heat the dies. The oil discharged from the fluid path of the dies is returned to the second oil pump. Thus, the heated oil is circulated in a closed loop in the heating mode. In a cooling mode, new oil is supplied to the fluid path of the dies from the changeover valve and the oil discharged from the fluid path is guided to the heat exchanger through a switching valve and the cooling oil is returned to the reservoir.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 1991Date of Patent: January 26, 1993Assignee: Toshiba Machine Co., Ltd.Inventors: Koichi Ozawa, Hajime Abe, Yutaka Owashi

Patent number: 5106285Abstract: A delivery system for dispersing either hot air or water uniformly to the outer surface of a shell mold used for forming a thin molded shell, for the respective fusion and cooling phases thereof. The delivery system includes a plurality of distributors, each having a central water inlet surrounded by an axially adjustable outer shell, with the latter having a frusto-conically shaped upper end which cooperates with the upper edge of the central water inlet to selectively close off or vary the annular opening therebetween for controlling the flow of air at a predetermined temperature form the space intermediate the central water inlet and the surrounding outer shell.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 1991Date of Patent: April 21, 1992Assignee: Davidson Textron Inc.Inventor: Frank J. Patent number: 5032076Abstract: A mold assembly for molding thermoplastic particles into a solid thin shell includes a metal shell having a cavity and including an outer surface exposed to a heat source and further including an inner surface on which thermoplastic material is cast and fused to form a thin layer thermoplastic shell. The heat transfer area of the metal shell is increased by providing a plurality of heat transfer pins connected to the outer surface; each of the heat transfer pins has an extended outside surface area exposed to the heat source for heating the metal shell and each of the heat transfer pins further includes a large diameter head portion which is joined to the metal shell by a capacitive weld nugget formed solely between the large diameter head portion and the outer surface of the metal shell without disrupting the metal shell at surface portions thereof formed between the heat transfer pins.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 1990Date of Patent: July 16, 1991Assignee: Davidson Textron Inc.Inventor: Kenneth L. Jackson, Jr.
