Involving Ion Exchange, Sequestering Or Chelating Material Patents (Class 426/271)
  • Patent number: 11708550
Abstract: Treating a non-wine alcoholic beverage including: exposing the non-wine alcoholic beverage to an ion exchange matrix. The ion exchange matrix includes a mixture of cation exchange media and anion exchange media that includes: (1) cation exchange media that are in hydrogen form, (2) cation exchange media that are in mineral form comprising potassium mineral form, (3) anion exchange media that are in hydroxide form, and (4) anion exchange media that are in chloride mineral form. The exposing results in: binding ions of the mixture to one or more cationic or anionic constituents present in the pretreated beverage, reducing concentrations of the one or more cationic or anionic constituents in the beverage and maintaining a conductivity value of the treated beverage equal to or greater than the pretreated beverage's conductivity value. An apparatus for treating a non-wine alcoholic beverage and a treated non-wine alcoholic beverage prepared by a process are also disclosed.

Abstract: A process for the isolation and/or purification of a desired component, particularly 3?sialyl lactose, from whey, particularly cheese whey, comprising the steps of: optionally subjecting the whey to ultrafiltration to provide a protein concentrate and a whey permeate; contacting the whey or whey permeate with at least one series of ion exchange resins, said series comprising a first weak acid cation resin, a first weak base anion resin, a second strong acid cation resin, a second weak base anion resin to demineralize the whey permeate; contacting this demineralized permeate with two final ion exchange resins comprising a strong acid cation resin and a final weak base anion resin, wherein the desired component, such as 3? sialyl lactose, is taken up on the final anion resin; and eluting the desired component from the final anion resin.

  • Patent number: 8927038
Abstract: The present invention relates to preparations comprising (arabino)xylan oligosaccharides with average degree of polymerisation between 4 and 10 and average degree of arabinose substitution between 0.15 and 0.35, which beneficially modulate the intestinal flora, such preparation comprising both xylo- and arabinoxylo-oligosaccharides. Preferably, the arabinoxylooligosaccharides are substituted in part by hydroxycinnamic acids and exert antioxidant effects. Furthermore, it is preferred that the preparations according to the present invention have a nitrogen content below 0.16% (w/w) in order to ensure good organoleptic and color properties, particularly upon heating said preparations. In addition, food, beverage and nutritional supplement products comprising the preparations are provided as well as methods to prepare the said preparations.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method for preparing a plant derived beverage product or process intermediate, the method including the steps of: providing a crushed or liquefied extract of a plant material, exposing the extract to a size exclusion purification means involving membrane filtration (such as nanofiltration, ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis or cross flow filtration) to provide a beverage product or a process intermediate thereof, wherein the purification means is capable of at least partially separating an undesirable component, from a desirable component. The purification methods may be applied to plant materials to selectively remove various components, while leaving others. This allows for the preparation of custom plant extract beverages.

  • Publication number: 20140377422
Abstract: A method for removal of metal ions from rice hull. The method includes: 1) providing a water storage reactor, and disposing a gas dispersion device at the bottom of the water storage reactor; 2) bagging rice hull, placing it in the water storage reactor, and pressing down on the bagged rice hull to be lower than a water surface in the water storage reactor; 3) spraying industrial flue gas into the water storage reactor; controlling the amount of the industrial flue gas such that the amount of carbon dioxide dissolved in per 100 g of water is about 1 g, whereby generating a carbonic acid solution; 4) allowing the carbonic acid solution to react with metal ions in the rice hull to yield a precipitate; and 5) washing the rice hull collected in step 4), washing again with desalinated water, and then squeezing the rice hull.
