Patent number: 6534122Abstract: The invention relates to a method and an arrangement in connection with coating of an optical fibre, in which a first fibre (3a) is directed from a fibre pay-off forward in the process via a press head (2a) forming the coating, and when the first fibre (3a) ends, a new fibre (3b) is directed to the press head (2a) in advance, and when the first fibre (3a) ends, a roll device (7) grips both the first fibre and the new fibre so that both fibres (3a, 3b) are caught between freely rotating rolls (7a, 7b) of the roll device (7), whereupon the tail of the first fibre (3a) makes the rolls (7a, 7b) of the roll device rotate, and the rotational movement of the rolls pushes the new fibre (3b) to the press head (2a) at a speed equal to that of the line.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 2000Date of Patent: March 18, 2003Assignee: Nextrom Holding S.A.Inventors: Jari Nykänen, Mika Aunola, Jukka Olkkonen

Patent number: 6485795Abstract: In a method for producing a magnetic recording medium, at least one magnetic layer is formed on a nonmagnetic support by coating. After all coating processes are completed, heat treatment is performed by heat-treating the support, which is undergone all the coating processes, at 95 to 140° C. for 1.0 to 10.0 seconds with continuously applying tension of from 1.0 to 4.0 kg/m to the support. Then, calendering process is performed at a temperature lower than the temperature of the heat treatment.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 1999Date of Patent: November 26, 2002Assignee: Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd.Inventors: Shinsuke Takahashi, Toshio Miyashiro

Patent number: 6395348Abstract: Pressure sensitive adhesive tapes are manufactured by continuously extruding polypropylene to form a web which is cooled and set and slit at transversely spaced positions into a plurality of side by side continuous tapes. After slitting each tape is drawn longitudinally and heat set to effect monoaxial orientation of the tape. A release coating to the first tape surface and a coating of a pressure sensitive adhesive to the second tape surface. Each continuous tape with the release coating and the adhesive coating thereon is wound into a series of cylindrical tape spools each containing a length of the tape.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 2000Date of Patent: May 28, 2002Assignee: KT Holdings Inc.Inventor: Lawrence O'Connor

Publication number: 20020017627Abstract: Polymer derivatives based upon polyalkyleneimine backbones having from about 20% to about 60% of their reactive amino functionalities substituted by C14-20 carboxylic acids, are disclosed. Fiber lubricants and/or sizing compositions comprising such polymer derivatives are also disclosed. The disclosed fiber lubricants exhibit excellent affinity for fiberglass fibers and have excellent hydrophobicity, while also providing excellent lubrication. Methods for preparing said derivatives are also disclosed. Also disclosed are methods for treating fibers using the polymer derivatives.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 6, 2001Publication date: February 14, 2002Inventors: Douglas F. Fry, Frank Norman Tuller

Patent number: 6329016Abstract: Lightweight, non-woven loop products for hook-and-loop fastening are disclosed, as are methods for making them and end products employing them. The products are non-woven webs of entangled fibers of substantial tenacity, the fibers forming both a sheet-form web body and hook-engageable, free-standing loops extending from the web body. The product is stretched and stabilized to produce spaced-apart loop clusters extending from a very thin web of taut fibers. In important cases a binder is added to stabilize the product in its stretched condition. An example of the loop product is produced by needle-punching a batt of staple fibers in multiple needle-punching operations, applying a foamed acrylic binder, and then stretching the needled batt and curing the binder with the batt stretched. Other forming techniques are disclosed and several novel articles and uses employing such loop products are described, such as for filters and fasteners.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 1999Date of Patent: December 11, 2001Assignee: Velcro Industries B.V.Inventors: William H.
