Patent number: 8857372Abstract: An isothermal, low pressure-based process of depositing material within a substrate has been developed and results in creating an extremely narrow reaction zone within which a more uniform and efficient deposition will occur. Sets of isothermal plasma operating conditions have been found that create a narrow deposition zone, assuring that the deposited material is clear glass rather than soot particles. The chemical delivery system, in one arrangement, utilizes rods of solid phase source material (which may otherwise be difficult to obtain in gaseous form). The operating conditions are selected such that the hot plasma does not transfer a substantial amount of heat to the substrate tube, where the presence of such heat has been found to result in vaporizing the reactant material (creating soot) and developing hot spots.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 2010Date of Patent: October 14, 2014Inventors: James Fleming, George Zydzik

Patent number: 8460745Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for loading a therapeutic substance or drug within a lumenal space of a hollow wire having a plurality of side openings along a length thereof that forms a hollow drug-eluting stent with a plurality of side drug delivery openings. Loading a drug within the lumenal space of the hollow stent includes a drug filling step, in which the drug is mixed with a solvent or dispersion medium. The lumenal space may be filled with the drug solution or suspension in a reverse fill process and/or a forward fill process. After the drug filling step, a solvent or dispersion medium extracting step is performed to extract the solvent or dispersion medium from within the lumenal space such that only the drug remains within the hollow stent. A stent cleaning step may be performed to an exterior surface of the hollow stent.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 2010Date of Patent: June 11, 2013Assignee: Medtronic Vascular, Inc.Inventors: James Mitchell, Justin Peterson, Dishuan Chu, Joseph Traina, Salvador Avelar, Michele Silver

Patent number: 8431186Abstract: To equip a diesel particle filter with a zeolite-containing coating uniformly over the entire length of the particle filter and with a further zeolite-free coating which is applied, from the entry side of the filter, solely up to a specific length of the filter, it is proposed, first, to apply the zeolite-free coating from the entry side of the filter and only thereafter to apply the zeolite-containing coating over the entire length of the filter from the exit side of the filter. As a result of this sequence of coatings, a better adhesive strength of the coatings than when both coatings are applied from the entry side is ensured.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 2009Date of Patent: April 30, 2013Assignee: Umicore AG & Co. Publication number: 20130071563Abstract: Methods and systems for cleaning, coating and sealing leaks in existing pipes, in a single operation. A piping system can be cleaned in one pass by dry particulates forced and pulled by air throughout the piping system by a generator and a vacuum. Pipes can be protected from water corrosion, erosion and electrolysis, extending the life of pipes such as copper, steel, lead, brass, cast iron piping and composite materials. Coatings can be applied to pipes having diameters up to approximately 6?. Leak sealants of at least approximately 4 mils thick can cover insides of pipes, and can include novel mixtures of fillers and epoxy materials, and viscosity levels. A positive pressure can be maintained within the pipes during applications. Piping systems can be returned to service within approximately 96 hours.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 14, 2012Publication date: March 21, 2013Applicant: PIPE RESTORATION TECHNOLOGIES, LLCInventor: Pipe Restoration Technologies, LLC

Patent number: 8354139Abstract: A system for impregnating a liner with a curable substance enables the liner to be used to repair or refurbish an underground conduit. The system includes a vacuum pump having a vacuum line communicably connected thereto. The vacuum line has a vacuum inlet formed therein. The vacuum line supports the liner such that the liner covers and encloses the inlet. A supply of a curable substance has an applicator line connected thereto. The applicator line is proximate the vacuum line and has a discharge port located proximate the liner supported on the vacuum line. An applicator pump moves the curable substance through the applicator line and discharge port onto the liner while the vacuum pump draws a vacuum on the liner.Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 2011Date of Patent: January 15, 2013Inventor: Kenneth S.
