Abstract: The present invention relates to a graphene pattern forming method using a delamination technique employing a polymer stamp. The technique is adequate for forming a graphene pattern having a an arbitrary target pattern. According to the present invention, a portion of a graphene layer formed on a substrate is physically and selectively delaminated using the polymer stamp to simply and easily form a desired graphene pattern having a uniform line width on the substrate. Also, a portion of the graphene layer formed on the substrate is physically and selectively delaminated in a roll-to-roll manner using a rotating body stamp or by using a stamp having a large area to simply and easily form a desired graphene pattern having a uniform line width on the a substrate having a large area.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing a resin-impregnated endless belt structure having a texturized outer surface requires the use of a support structure, either a cylindrical mandrel or a pair of carrying rolls, having a texturized surface. An endless, permeable base structure is placed about the support structure, which is adapted to place the base structure under tension in a longitudinal direction. A polymeric resin material is dispensed onto the outside of the base structure on the support structure. The polymeric resin material totally impregnates the base structure and passes therethrough to coat the texturized surface of the support structure. A layer of polymeric resin material is also built up on the outside of the base structure. The polymeric resin material is then cured, and may be ground to provide the layer of polymeric resin material with a smooth, uniform surface, and the belt structure thus obtained is removed from the support structure.

Abstract: A method for molding a pattern on the surface of heated asphalt. The method includes: providing an asphalt molding mesh comprising pattern molding elements formed of an elastic material having a V-shaped cross-section in a configuration corresponding to a pattern to be molded in the asphalt. The mesh is then heated to substantially equalize with that of the surface of the asphalt. The mesh is positioned and inserted at least partially into the asphalt. The mesh and asphalt are rolled over to mold the asphalt and compact the asphalt about the mesh. Water is applied to the surface of the asphalt while rolling to limit the heating and expansion and buckling of the mesh. Finally, molding mesh is removed from the asphalt.

Abstract: Adhesive is applied to a web by way of a printing plate and reverse enclosed doctor blade so as to apply the adhesive in selected locations thereby minimizing the amount of adhesive applied in order to decrease the stiffness of the resultant multi-ply web. The amount of adhesive build up on the embossing rolls due to the adhesive bleeding through the web material is minimized and the embossing rolls are permitted to clean themselves in that the adhesive application is carried out so that adhesive is not applied to the web material adjacent portions of the embossing roll on successive rotations of the roll. By doing so, portions of the backup roll which support the web where adhesive was previously applied are permitted to selfclean by allowing the adhesive which has bled through the web and collected on the backup roll to dry and flake off prior to adhesive again being applied to the web adjacent such region.

Abstract: A flexible medium for a scrolling color changer and method of making thereof. The medium is made by applying an ink using a Meyer Rod which has varying cell lengths along its length. This leaves varying size cells of ink at different locations along the length of the medium. The ink has special characteristics whereby its evaporation rate and viscosity are carefully controlled. The viscosity is such that an amount of levelling will occur will be equal to the distance between any cells, but that cell to cell levelling will not, in general, occur.

  • Patent number: 6180172
Abstract: A process and apparatus for edge coating a substrate is provided. A process provides a layer of a formable coating material on a transfer belt which layer of formable material has a variable thickness over the width of the layer, applying a layer of the formable coating material on the transfer belt to the edge surface to produce a coated edge surface and smoothing the coated edge surface by contact with a smoothing belt. The coating on the edge surface is sufficiently thick to cover and smooth irregularities in the edge surface of the substrate. The coated edge surface can be further treated by the usual methods for coating edge surfaces of flat substrates. The apparatus comprises the roller or nozzle to provide the layer of formable material of variable thickness on the transfer belt, the transfer belt carries the coating material to the edge surface and the transfer belt can act as a smoothing belt to provide an edge surface with the coating material with all of the irregularities obscured.

Abstract: An improved design and manufacturing method is disclosed for calendered, double side segment coated webs. By staggering the leading edges and/or the trailing edges of the segment coatings on one side of the web from those on the other side, web damage, including the incidence of breakage, can be reduced. Further, vibration and wear on the calendering apparatus can be reduced. The invention is particularly useful for heavily calendered webs such as the electrodes in non-aqueous rechargeable lithium ion batteries.

Abstract: Methods of forming mask patterns and methods of forming field emitter tip masks are described. In one embodiment a first surface is provided over which a mask pattern is to be formed. A mixture comprising mask particles is applied to a second surface comprising material joined with the first layer. The mixture, as applied, leaves an undesirable distribution of mask particles over the first surface. After application of the mixture to the second surface, the mask particles are laterally distributed over the first surface, into a desirable distribution by placing a particle-dispersing structure directly into the mixture on the second surface and moving the particle-dispersing structure laterally through the mixture on the second surface. In another embodiment, a mixture is formed on the substrate's second surface and includes a liquid component and a plurality of solid mask-forming components.
